Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,	1 Entonces todos los jefes de las tropas, con Iojanán, hijo de Caréaj, Azarías, hijo de Maasías, y todo el pueblo, desde el más pequeño al más grande, acudieron
2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)	2 al profeta Jeremías y le dijeron: «¡Que nuestra súplica llegue hasta ti! Ruega al Señor, tu Dios, en favor de todo este resto, porque de los muchos que éramos hemos quedado unos pocos, como lo ves con tus propios ojos.
3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.	3 Que el Señor, tu Dios, nos indique el camino que debemos seguir y lo que debemos hacer».
4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.	4 El profeta Jeremías les dijo: «De acuerdo. Voy a rogar al Señor, su Dios, como ustedes dicen, y les comunicaré todo lo que el Señor les responda, sin ocultarle nada».
5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.	5 Ellos dijeron a Jeremías: «Que el Señor sea un testigo veraz y fidedigno contra nosotros, si no obramos en todo conforme a la palabra que el Señor, tu Dios, te enviará para nosotros.
6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.	6 Nos guste o no, oiremos la voz del Señor, nuestro Dios, para que nos vaya bien por haber obedecido la voz del Señor, nuestro Dios».
7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.	7 Al cabo de diez días, la palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías.
8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,	8 El llamó a Iojanán, hijo de Caréaj, a todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, y también a todo el pueblo, del más pequeño al más grande,
9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;	9 y les dijo: «Así habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel, a quien ustedes me enviaron para presentarle una súplica:
10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.	10 Si ustedes permanecen en este país, yo los edificaré y no los demoleré, los plantaré y no los arrancaré, porque me arrepiento del mal que les hice.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.	11 No teman al rey de Babilonia, del que ahora tienen miedo; no le teman –oráculo del Señor– porque yo estoy con ustedes para salvarlos y para librarlos de su mano.
12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.	12 Yo haré que ustedes encuentren compasión, y él se compadecerá de ustedes y los dejará habitar en el país.
13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,	13 Pero si ustedes, desoyendo la voz del Señor, su Dios, dicen: «No permaneceremos en este país»;
14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:	14 si dicen: «No, entraremos en el país de Egipto; allí no veremos guerra, no oiremos el sonido de la trompeta, ni estaremos hambrientos de pan; es allí donde queremos permanecer»,
15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;	15 entonces, escuchen la palabra del Señor, ustedes, resto de Judá: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Si ustedes pretenden a toda costa entrar en Egipto, para residir allí,
16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.	16 la espada que ustedes temen los alcanzará allí, en Egipto, y el hambre que les da miedo se adherirá a ustedes allí, en Egipto, y morirán.
17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.	17 Todos los que pretendan a toda costa entrar en Egipto para residir allí, morirán por la espada, el hambre y la peste; ninguno de ellos sobrevivirá ni escapará a la desgracia que atraeré sobre ellos.
18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.	18 Porque así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Como se ha derramado mi ira y mi furor sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén, así se derramará sobre ustedes mi furor cuando entren en Egipto; ustedes se convertirán en imprecación, devastación, maldición e ignominia, y no volverán más a este lugar».
19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.	19 Pero Jeremías dijo: «Esta es la palabra que el Señor les dirige, resto de Judá: «No entren en Egipto». Sepan bien que hoy yo les hago una solemne advertencia.
20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.	20 Ustedes se han perjudicado a sí mismos cuando me enviaron ante el Señor, su Dios, diciendo: «Ruega en favor nuestro al Señor, nuestro Dios; comunícanos todo lo que diga el Señor, nuestro Dios, y nosotros lo haremos».
21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.	21 Hoy se lo he comunicado a ustedes, pero ustedes no han oído la voz del Señor, su Dios, en nada de lo que él me envió a decirles.
22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.	22 Y ahora pueden estar seguros de que morirán por la espada, el hambre y la peste, en el lugar donde quieren entrar para residir allí».
