Sirach 22

KING JAMES BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 A slothful man is compared to a filthy stone, and every one will hiss him out to his disgrace.	1 Ao preguiçoso é atirado esterco, só se fala dele com desprezo.
2 A slothful man is compared to the filth of a dunghill: every man that takes it up will shake his hand.	2 O preguiçoso é apedrejado com excremento, quem o tocar sacudirá a mão.
3 An evilnurtured man is the dishonour of his father that begat him: and a [foolish] daughter is born to his loss.	3 O filho mal educado é a vergonha de seu pai, a filha semelhante não gozará de nenhuma consideração.
4 A wise daughter shall bring an inheritance to her husband: but she that liveth dishonestly is her father's heaviness.	4 Um jovem prudente é uma herança para o marido, mas a filha desavergonhada causa mágoa ao seu pai.
5 She that is bold dishonoureth both her father and her husband, but they both shall despise her.	5 A mulher atrevida cobre de vergonha o pai e o marido; e é igual aos celerados: ambos a desprezam.
6 A tale out of season [is as] musick in mourning: but stripes and correction of wisdom are never out of time.	6 Uma palavra inoportuna é música em dia de luto; a sabedoria, porém, emprega com oportunidade o chicote e a instrução.
7 Whoso teacheth a fool is as one that glueth a potsherd together, and as he that waketh one from a sound sleep.	7 Instruir um insensato é tornar a ajustar um vaso quebrado;
8 He that telleth a tale to a fool speaketh to one in a slumber: when he hath told his tale, he will say, What is the matter?	8 falar a quem não ouve é como despertar alguém de um sono profundo.
9 If children live honestly, and have wherewithal, they shall cover the baseness of their parents.	9 Falar da sabedoria com um insensato é conversar com alguém que está adormecendo; no fim da conversa ele dirá: Que é?
10 But children, being haughty, through disdain and want of nurture do stain the nobility of their kindred.	10 Chora sobre um morto, porque ele perdeu a luz; chora sobre um tolo, porque é falho de juízo.
11 Weep for the dead, for he hath lost the light: and weep for the fool, for he wanteth understanding: make little weeping for the dead, for he is at rest: but the life of the fool is worse than death.	11 Chora menos sobre um morto, porque ele achou o repouso;
12 Seven days do men mourn for him that is dead; but for a fool and an ungodly man all the days of his life.	12 a vida criminosa do mau, porém, é pior do que a morte.
13 Talk not much with a fool, and go not to him that hath no understanding: beware of him, lest thou have trouble, and thou shalt never be defiled with his fooleries: depart from him, and thou shalt find rest, and never be disquieted with madness.	13 O luto por um morto dura sete dias, mas por um insensato e um ímpio, dura toda a sua vida.
14 What is heavier than lead? and what is the name thereof, but a fool?	14 Não fales muito com um estulto; não convivas com o insensato.
15 Sand, and salt, and a mass of iron, is easier to bear, than a man without understanding.	15 Acautela-te contra ele, para não seres incomodado; e não te mancharás com o contágio de se u pecado.
16 As timber girt and bound together in a building cannot be loosed with shaking: so the heart that is stablished by advised counsel shall fear at no time.	16 Afasta-te dele: encontrarás repouso, e a sua loucura não te causará mágoa.
17 A heart settled upon a thought of understanding is as a fair plaistering on the wall of a gallery.	17 O que há de mais pesado que o chumbo? E que outro nome dar-lhe a não ser o de insensato?
18 Pales set on an high place will never stand against the wind: so a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool cannot stand against any fear.	18 É mais fácil carregar areia, sal ou uma barra de ferro, do que suportar o imprudente, o tolo e o ímpio.
19 He that pricketh the eye will make tears to fall: and he that pricketh the heart maketh it to shew her knowledge.	19 Um encaixamento de madeira adaptado aos alicerces de um edifício não se desconjunta. Assim é o coração firmado por uma decisão bem amadurecida.
20 Whoso casteth a stone at the birds frayeth them away: and he that upbraideth his friend breaketh friendship.	20 O desígnio de um homem sensato, em qualquer tempo que seja, não será alterado pelo temor.
21 Though thou drewest a sword at thy friend, yet despair not: for there may be a returning [to favour.]	21 Como a estacada posta em lugar elevado e a parede sem argamassa não podem resistir à violência do vento,
22 If thou hast opened thy mouth against thy friend, fear not; for there may be a reconciliation: except for upbraiding, or pride, or disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound: for for these things every friend will depart.	22 assim um coração tímido, de pensamentos tolos, não pode resistir ao choque do temor.
23 Be faithful to thy neighbour in his poverty, that thou mayest rejoice in his prosperity: abide stedfast unto him in the time of his trouble, that thou mayest be heir with him in his heritage: for a mean estate is not always to be contemned: nor the rich that is foolish to be had in admiration.	23 O coração medroso do insensato jamais tem temor em seus pensamentos; assim também o que não se apóia nos preceitos divinos.
24 As the vapour and smoke of a furnace goeth before the fire; so reviling before blood.	24 Quem machuca um olho, dele faz sair lágrimas; quem magoa um coração, nele excita a sensibilidade.
25 I will not be ashamed to defend a friend; neither will I hide myself from him.	25 Quem lança uma pedra aos pássaros, fá-los fugir; assim, quem insulta um amigo, rompe a amizade.
26 And if any evil happen unto me by him, every one that heareth it will beware of him.	26 Ainda que tenhas arrancado a espada contra o teu amigo, não desesperes; porque o regresso é possível.
27 Who shall set a watch before my mouth, and a seal of wisdom upon my lips, that I fall not suddenly by them, and that my tongue destroy me not?	27 Ainda que tenhas dito contra ele palavras desagradáveis, não temas, porque a reconciliação é possível, salvo se se tratar de injúrias, afrontas, insolências, revelação de um segredo ou golpes à traição; em todos esses casos fugirá de ti o teu amigo.
	28 Permanece fiel ao teu amigo em sua pobreza, a fim de te alegrares com ele na sua prosperidade.
	29 Permanece-lhe fiel no tempo da aflição, a fim de teres parte com ele em sua herança.
	30 O vapor e a fumaça elevam-se na fornalha antes do fogo; assim o homicídio e o derramamento de sangue são precedidos de injúrias, ultrajes e ameaças.
	31 Não me envergonharei de saudar um amigo, nem me esconderei da sua presença; e se me acontecer algum mal por isso, eu o suportarei,
	32 mas quem o souber, dele desconfiará.
	33 Quem porá uma guarda à minha boca, e um selo inviolável nos meus lábios, para que eu não caia por sua causa, e para que minha língua não me perca?
