KING JAMES BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 But thou, O God, art gracious and true, longsuffering, and in mercy ordering all things,	1 Mas vós, Deus nosso, sois benfazejo e verdadeiro, vós sois paciente e tudo governais com misericórdia;
2 For if we sin, we are thine, knowing thy power: but we will not sin, knowing that we are counted thine.	2 com efeito, mesmo se pecamos, somos vossos, porque conhecemos vosso poder; mas não pecaremos, cientes de que somos considerados como vossos.
3 For to know thee is perfect righteousness: yea, to know thy power is the root of immortality.	3 Porque conhecer-vos é a perfeita justiça, e conhecer vosso poder é a raiz da imortalidade.
4 For neither did the mischievous invention of men deceive us, nor an image spotted with divers colours, the painter's fruitless labour;	4 Não fomos seduzidos pelas invenções da arte corruptora dos homens nem pelo vão trabalho dos pintores: borrada figura de cores misturadas,
5 The sight whereof enticeth fools to lust after it, and so they desire the form of a dead image, that hath no breath.	5 cuja vista excita os desejos dos insensatos, fantasma inanimado de uma imagem sem vida que provoca a paixão!
6 Both they that make them, they that desire them, and they that worship them, are lovers of evil things, and are worthy to have such things to trust upon.	6 Cativados pelo mal, não merecem esperar senão o mal, os que o fazem, os que o amam e os que o veneram.
7 For the potter, tempering soft earth, fashioneth every vessel with much labour for our service: yea, of the same clay he maketh both the vessels that serve for clean uses, and likewise also all such as serve to the contrary: but what is the use of either sort, the potter himself is the judge.	7 Eis, portanto, um oleiro que amassa laboriosamente a terra mole, e forma diversos objetos para nosso uso, mas da mesma argila faz vasos destinados a fins nobres e outros, indiferentemente, para usos opostos. Para qual destes usos cada vaso será aplicado? O oleiro será o juiz.
8 And employing his labours lewdly, he maketh a vain god of the same clay, even he which a little before was made of earth himself, and within a little while after returneth to the same, out when his life which was lent him shall be demanded.	8 Do mesmo barro, forma também, como obreiro perverso, uma vã divindade, ele que, ainda há pouco, nasceu da terra, e em breve voltará a ela, de onde foi tirado, quando lhe serão pedidas as contas de sua vida.
9 Notwithstanding his care is, not that he shall have much labour, nor that his life is short: but striveth to excel goldsmiths and silversmiths, and endeavoureth to do like the workers in brass, and counteth it his glory to make counterfeit things.	9 Ele mesmo não tem preocupação alguma com o próprio desfalecimento, nem com a brevidade da vida; ele rivaliza, pelo contrário, com aqueles que trabalham o ouro e a prata, imita os que trabalham o cobre.
10 His heart is ashes, his hope is more vile than earth, and his life of less value than clay:	10 Pó é o seu coração, mais vil que a terra sua esperança, e põe sua glória em fabricar objetos enganadores. E mais desprezível que o barro é sua vida,
11 Forasmuch as he knew not his Maker, and him that inspired into him an active soul, and breathed in a living spirit.	11 porque não reconheceu aquele que o formou, aquele que lhe inspirou uma alma ativa e lhe insuflou o espírito vital.
12 But they counted our life a pastime, and our time here a market for gain: for, say they, we must be getting every way, though it be by evil means.	12 Para ele a vida é um divertimento, e nossa existência um mercado lucrativo, porque, diz ele, é preciso aproveitar-se de tudo, mesmo do mal.
13 For this man, that of earthly matter maketh brittle vessels and graven images, knoweth himself to offend above all others.	13 Mais que qualquer outro, esse homem sabe que peca, fazendo do mesmo barro vasos frágeis e ídolos.
14 And all the enemies of thy people, that hold them in subjection, are most foolish, and are more miserable than very babes.	14 Ora, verdadeiramente, muito insensatos, mais infortunados que a alma da criança, são os inimigos de vosso povo, que o oprimiram,
15 For they counted all the idols of the heathen to be gods: which neither have the use of eyes to see, nor noses to draw breath, nor ears to hear, nor fingers of hands to handle; and as for their feet, they are slow to go.	15 porque eles também tiveram por deuses todos os ídolos das nações, que não podem servir-se de seus olhos para ver, que não têm nariz para aspirar o ar, nem ouvidos para ouvir, nem os dedos das mãos para apalpar, e cujos pés são incapazes de andar;
16 For man made them, and he that borrowed his own spirit fashioned them: but no man can make a god like unto himself.	16 foi, com efeito, um homem que os fez, formou-os alguém que recebeu a alma de empréstimo. Nenhum homem pode fazer um deus, mesmo semelhante a si próprio,
17 For being mortal, he worketh a dead thing with wicked hands: for he himself is better than the things which he worshippeth: whereas he lived once, but they never.	17 porque, sendo ele próprio mortal, morto é tudo que produz com suas mãos ímpias. De fato, ele vale mais que os objetos que venera; ele, pelo menos, tem vida, enquanto os ídolos não a têm.
18 Yea, they worshipped those beasts also that are most hateful: for being compared together, some are worse than others.	18 Chega-se até a adorar os mais odiosos animais, que são piores ainda que os outros animais irracionais, 19. que nem mesmo possuem o que outros seres vivos possuem: bastante beleza para serem amados, e que foram excluídos da aprovação e da bênção de Deus.
19 Neither are they beautiful, so much as to be desired in respect of beasts: but they went without the praise of God and his blessing.
