KING JAMES BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 But thou, O God, art gracious and true, longsuffering, and in mercy ordering all things,	1 Pero tú, Dios nuestro, eres bondadoso y fiel, eres paciente y todo lo administras con misericordia.
2 For if we sin, we are thine, knowing thy power: but we will not sin, knowing that we are counted thine.	2 Aun cuando pecamos, pertenecemos a ti, ya que reconocemos tu soberanía; pero no pecaremos, sabiendo que nos has contado como tuyos.
3 For to know thee is perfect righteousness: yea, to know thy power is the root of immortality.	3 Porque conocerte a ti es la perfecta justicia y reconocer tu soberanía es la raíz de la inmortalidad.
4 For neither did the mischievous invention of men deceive us, nor an image spotted with divers colours, the painter's fruitless labour;	4 No nos han extraviado las invenciones de un arte humano perverso ni el esfuerzo estéril de los pintores de quimeras: esas figuras embadurnadas de colores abigarrados,
5 The sight whereof enticeth fools to lust after it, and so they desire the form of a dead image, that hath no breath.	5 cuya contemplación excita la pasión de los necios y les hace desear la figura inanimada de una imagen sin vida.
6 Both they that make them, they that desire them, and they that worship them, are lovers of evil things, and are worthy to have such things to trust upon.	6 ¡Amantes del mal y dignos de tales esperanzas son los que las fabrican, las desean y las adoran!
7 For the potter, tempering soft earth, fashioneth every vessel with much labour for our service: yea, of the same clay he maketh both the vessels that serve for clean uses, and likewise also all such as serve to the contrary: but what is the use of either sort, the potter himself is the judge.	7 Así un alfarero amasa laboriosamente la tierra blanda y modela cada uno de los objetos que usamos. Con la misma arcilla modela indistintamente objetos destinados a un uso noble y otros que tendrán un destino contrario; pero es el alfarero el que decide cuál será la función de cada uno de ellos.
8 And employing his labours lewdly, he maketh a vain god of the same clay, even he which a little before was made of earth himself, and within a little while after returneth to the same, out when his life which was lent him shall be demanded.	8 Después, con un esfuerzo mal empleado, utiliza la misma arcilla para modelar un falso dios, y el que hace eso es un hombre que poco antes nació de la tierra y dentro de poco volverá a la tierra de donde fue sacado, cuando se le pida que devuelva su alma.
9 Notwithstanding his care is, not that he shall have much labour, nor that his life is short: but striveth to excel goldsmiths and silversmiths, and endeavoureth to do like the workers in brass, and counteth it his glory to make counterfeit things.	9 Sin embargo, en vez de preocuparse de que pronto va a morir y de la brevedad de su vida, rivaliza con los orfebres y plateros, imita a los forjadores de bronce y se enorgullece de fabricar lo que es falso.
10 His heart is ashes, his hope is more vile than earth, and his life of less value than clay:	10 Su corazón no es más que ceniza, su esperanza es más vil que la tierra, y su vida más despreciable que la arcilla.
11 Forasmuch as he knew not his Maker, and him that inspired into him an active soul, and breathed in a living spirit.	11 Porque desconoce a aquel que lo modeló, al que le infundió un alma capaz de actuar y le transmitió un soplo vital.
12 But they counted our life a pastime, and our time here a market for gain: for, say they, we must be getting every way, though it be by evil means.	12 El piensa que nuestra vida es un juego y la existencia, una feria para obtener ganancias: «Es necesario, dice, ganar por todos los medios, aunque sean malos».
13 For this man, that of earthly matter maketh brittle vessels and graven images, knoweth himself to offend above all others.	13 Porque él sabe bien que peca más que cualquier otro cuando de una materia terrestre fabrica objetos frágiles y estatuas.
14 And all the enemies of thy people, that hold them in subjection, are most foolish, and are more miserable than very babes.	14 Pero los más insensatos de todos, y más infelices que el alma de un niño, son los enemigos que oprimieron a tu pueblo,
15 For they counted all the idols of the heathen to be gods: which neither have the use of eyes to see, nor noses to draw breath, nor ears to hear, nor fingers of hands to handle; and as for their feet, they are slow to go.	15 ya que tuvieron por dioses a todos los ídolos de las naciones, que no pueden valerse de los ojos para ver, ni de las narices para respirar, ni de los oídos para oír, ni de los dedos de las manos para tocar, y cuyos pies no sirven para caminar.
16 For man made them, and he that borrowed his own spirit fashioned them: but no man can make a god like unto himself.	16 Porque es un hombre el que hizo esos ídolos, uno que recibió en préstamo el aliento, el que los modeló, pero ningún hombre puede modelar un dios semejante a sí mismo:
17 For being mortal, he worketh a dead thing with wicked hands: for he himself is better than the things which he worshippeth: whereas he lived once, but they never.	17 siendo mortal, con sus manos impías, sólo puede producir una obra muerta. El vale más que los objetos que adora, ya que él tiene vida, pero aquellos no la tendrán jamás.
18 Yea, they worshipped those beasts also that are most hateful: for being compared together, some are worse than others.	18 Ellos adoran incluso a los animales más repugnantes, que superan en estupidez a todos los demás,
19 Neither are they beautiful, so much as to be desired in respect of beasts: but they went without the praise of God and his blessing.	19 a los que ni siquiera tienen la belleza que hace atrayentes a otros animales, y están excluidos del elogio y la bendición de Dios.
