Job 2

1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.	1 Es geschah eines Tages, daß die Gottessöhne kamen, um vor den Herrn hinzutreten, und unter ihnen kam auch der Satan, um vor den Herrn hinzutreten.
2 And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.	2 Da sprach der Herr zum Satan: "Woher kommst du?" Der Satan erwiderte dem Herrn und sprach: "Vom Durchschweifen der Erde und vom Umherwandeln auf ihr."
3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.	3 Da sprach der Herr zum Satan: "Hast du meinen Knecht Job beachtet? Es gibt ja seinesgleichen keinen auf Erden: fromm und recht, gottesfürchtig und dem Bösen fern. Noch immer hält er fest an seiner Frömmigkeit, und du hast mich vergeblich gegen ihn gereizt, ihn zu verderben."
4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.	4 Der Satan erwiderte dem Herrn und sprach: "Haut für Haut! Es gibt doch der Mensch alles, was er hat, für sein Leben hin!
5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.	5 Aber strecke einmal deine Hand aus und taste sein Gebein und Fleisch an! Ob er dir dann nicht ins Angesicht flucht?"
6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.	6 Da sprach der Herr zum Satan: "Wohlan, er sei deiner Hand überlassen; nur sein Leben schone!"
7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.	7 Und der Satan ging weg vom Antlitz des Herrn und schlug Job mit bösem Geschwür von der Fußsohle bis zu seinem Scheitel.
8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.	8 Da nahm er sich eine Scherbe, um sich damit zu schaben, während er mitten in der Asche saß.
9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.	9 Da sprach seine Frau zu ihm: "Hältst du immer noch fest an deiner Frömmigkeit? Fluche Gott und stirb!"
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.	10 Er aber sprach zu ihr: "Wie eine Törin redet, so redest du. Wenn wir schon das Gute von Gott annehmen, sollen wir das Schlechte nicht auch annehmen?" Bei all dem hat Job mit seinen Lippen nicht gesündigt.
11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.	11 Da hörten die drei Freunde Jobs von all dem Unglück, das über ihn gekommen war. Und sie kamen, ein jeder von seinem Heimatort: Eliphas, der Temanit, Bildad, der Schuchit, und Zophar, der Naamatit. Sie hatten nämlich gemeinsam ihr Kommen verabredet, ihm Teilnahme zu zeigen und ihn zu trösten.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.	12 Als sie aber von ferne ihre Augen erhoben, erkannten sie ihn nicht wieder. Da erhoben sie ihre Stimme und weinten laut. Sie zerrissen alle ihr Gewand und streuten Asche über ihre Häupter zum Himmel.
13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.	13 Sie saßen bei ihm auf der Erde sieben Tage und sieben Nächte lang. Keiner sprach ein Wort zu ihm; denn sie sahen, daß sein Schmerz gar groß war.
