Judith 9

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Judith fell upon her face, and put ashes upon her head, and uncovered the sackcloth wherewith she was clothed; and about the time that the incense of that evening was offered in Jerusalem in the house of the Lord Judith cried with a loud voice, and said,	1 Judith tomba le visage contre terre, répandit de la cendre sur sa tête, se dépouilla jusqu'au sac dontelle était revêtue et, à haute voix, cria vers le Seigneur. C'était l'heure où, à Jérusalem, au Temple de Dieu, onoffrait l'encens du soir. Elle dit:
2 O Lord God of my father Simeon, to whom thou gavest a sword to take vengeance of the strangers, who loosened the girdle of a maid to defile her, and discovered the thigh to her shame, and polluted her virginity to her reproach; for thou saidst, It shall not be so; and yet they did so:	2 "Seigneur, Dieu de mon père Siméon, tu l'armas d'un glaive vengeur contre les étrangers qui défirentla ceinture d'une vierge, à sa honte, mirent son flanc à nu, à sa confusion, et profanèrent son sein, à sondéshonneur; car tu as dit: "Cela ne sera pas", et ils le firent.
3 Wherefore thou gavest their rulers to be slain, so that they dyed their bed in blood, being deceived, and smotest the servants with their lords, and the lords upon their thrones;	3 C'est pourquoi tu as livré leurs chefs au meurtre, et leur couche, avilie par leur duperie, fut dupéejusqu'au sang. Tu as frappé les esclaves avec les princes et les princes avec leurs serviteurs.
4 And hast given their wives for a prey, and their daughters to be captives, and all their spoils to be divided among thy dear children; which were moved with thy zeal, and abhorred the pollution of their blood, and called upon thee for aid: O God, O my God, hear me also a widow.	4 Tu as livré leurs femmes au rapt et leurs filles à la captivité, et toutes leurs dépouilles au partage, auprofit de tes fils préférés qui avaient brûlé de zèle pour toi, avaient eu horreur de la souillure infligée à leur sanget t'avaient appelé à leur secours. O Dieu, ô mon Dieu, exauce la pauvre veuve que je suis,
5 For thou hast wrought not only those things, but also the things which fell out before, and which ensued after; thou hast thought upon the things which are now, and which are to come.	5 puisque c'est toi qui as fait le passé et ce qui arrive maintenant et ce qui arrivera plus tard. Le présentet l'avenir, tu les as conçus, et ce qui est arrivé, c'est ce que tu avais dans l'esprit.
6 Yea, what things thou didst determine were ready at hand, and said, Lo, we are here: for all thy ways are prepared, and thy judgments are in thy foreknowledge.	6 Tes desseins se présentèrent et dirent: "Nous sommes là!" Car toutes tes voies sont préparées et tesjugements portés avec prévoyance.
7 For, behold, the Assyrians are multiplied in their power; they are exalted with horse and man; they glory in the strength of their footmen; they trust in shield, and spear, and bow, and sling; and know not that thou art the Lord that breakest the battles: the Lord is thy name.	7 Voici les Assyriens: ils se prévalent de leur armée, se glorifient de leurs chevaux et de leurs cavaliers,se targuent de la valeur de leurs fantassins. Ils ont compté sur la lance et le bouclier, sur l'arc et sur la fronde; etils n'ont pas reconnu en toi le Seigneur briseur de guerres.
8 Throw down their strength in thy power, and bring down their force in thy wrath: for they have purposed to defile thy sanctuary, and to pollute the tabernacle where thy glorious name resteth and to cast down with sword the horn of thy altar.	8 A toi le nom de Seigneur! Et toi, brise leur violence par ta puissance, fracasse leur force dans tacolère! Car ils ont projeté de profaner tes lieux saints, de souiller la tente où siège ton Nom glorieux et derenverser par le fer la corne de ton autel.
9 Behold their pride, and send thy wrath upon their heads: give into mine hand, which am a widow, the power that I have conceived.	9 Regarde leur outrecuidance, envoie ta colère sur leurs têtes, donne à ma main de veuve la vaillanceescomptée.
10 Smite by the deceit of my lips the servant with the prince, and the prince with the servant: break down their stateliness by the hand of a woman.	10 Par la ruse de mes lèvres, frappe l'esclave avec le chef et le chef avec son serviteur. Brise leurarrogance par une main de femme.
11 For thy power standeth not in multitude nor thy might in strong men: for thou art a God of the afflicted, an helper of the oppressed, an upholder of the weak, a protector of the forlorn, a saviour of them that are without hope.	11 Ta force ne réside pas dans le nombre, ni ton autorité dans les violents, mais tu es le Dieu deshumbles, le secours des opprimés, le soutien des faibles, l'abri des délaissés, le sauveur des désespérés.
12 I pray thee, I pray thee, O God of my father, and God of the inheritance of Israel, Lord of the heavens and earth, Creator of the waters, king of every creature, hear thou my prayer:	12 Oui, oui, Dieu de mon père, Dieu de l'héritage d'Israël, Maître du ciel et de la terre, Créateur deseaux, Roi de tout ce que tu as créé, toi, exauce ma prière.
13 And make my speech and deceit to be their wound and stripe, who have purposed cruel things against thy covenant, and thy hallowed house, and against the top of Sion, and against the house of the possession of thy children.	13 Donne-moi un langage séducteur, pour blesser et pour meurtrir ceux qui ont formé de si noirsdesseins contre ton alliance et ta sainte demeure et la montagne de Sion et la maison qui appartient à tes fils.
14 And make every nation and tribe to acknowledge that thou art the God of all power and might, and that there is none other that protecteth the people of Israel but thou.	14 Et fais connaître à tout peuple et à toute tribu que tu es le Seigneur, Dieu de toute puissance et detoute force, et que le peuple d'Israël n'a d'autre protecteur que toi."
