1 Judith fell upon her face, and put ashes upon her head, and uncovered the sackcloth wherewith she was clothed; and about the time that the incense of that evening was offered in Jerusalem in the house of the Lord Judith cried with a loud voice, and said,	1 Cayó Judit, rostro en tierra, echó ceniza sobre su cabeza, dejó ver el sayal que tenía puesto y, a la misma hora en que se ofrecía en Jerusalén, en la Casa de Dios, el incienso de aquella tarde, clamó al Señor en alta voz diciendo:
2 O Lord God of my father Simeon, to whom thou gavest a sword to take vengeance of the strangers, who loosened the girdle of a maid to defile her, and discovered the thigh to her shame, and polluted her virginity to her reproach; for thou saidst, It shall not be so; and yet they did so:	2 Señor, Dios de mi padre Simeón, a quien diste una espada para vengarse de extranjeros que habían soltado el ceñidor de una virgen para mancha, que desnudaron sus caderas para vergüenza y profanaron su seno para deshonor; pues tú dijiste: «Eso no se hace», y ellos lo hicieron.
3 Wherefore thou gavest their rulers to be slain, so that they dyed their bed in blood, being deceived, and smotest the servants with their lords, and the lords upon their thrones;	3 Por eso entregaste sus jefes a la muerte y su lecho, rojo de vergüenza por su engaño, lo dejaste engañado hasta la sangre. Castigaste a los esclavos con los príncipes, a los príncipes con los siervos.
4 And hast given their wives for a prey, and their daughters to be captives, and all their spoils to be divided among thy dear children; which were moved with thy zeal, and abhorred the pollution of their blood, and called upon thee for aid: O God, O my God, hear me also a widow.	4 Entregaste al saqueo a sus mujeres, sus hijas al destierro, todos sus despojos en reparto para tus hijos amados, que se habían encendido de tu celo, y tuvieron horror a la mancha hecha a su sangre y te llamaron en su ayuda. ¡Oh Dios, mi Dios, escucha a esta viuda!
5 For thou hast wrought not only those things, but also the things which fell out before, and which ensued after; thou hast thought upon the things which are now, and which are to come.	5 Tú que hiciste las cosas pasadas, las de ahora y las venideras, que has pensado el presente y el futuro; y sólo sucede lo que tú dispones,
6 Yea, what things thou didst determine were ready at hand, and said, Lo, we are here: for all thy ways are prepared, and thy judgments are in thy foreknowledge.	6 y tus designios se presentan y te dicen: «Aquí estamos!» Pues todos tus caminos están preparados y tus juicios de antemano previstos.
7 For, behold, the Assyrians are multiplied in their power; they are exalted with horse and man; they glory in the strength of their footmen; they trust in shield, and spear, and bow, and sling; and know not that thou art the Lord that breakest the battles: the Lord is thy name.	7 Mira, pues, a los asirios que juntan muchas fuerzas, orgullosos de sus caballos y jinetes, engreídos por la fuerza de sus infantes, fiados en sus escudos y en sus lanzas, en sus arcos y en sus hondas, y no han reconocido que tú eres el Señor, quebrantador de guerras.
8 Throw down their strength in thy power, and bring down their force in thy wrath: for they have purposed to defile thy sanctuary, and to pollute the tabernacle where thy glorious name resteth and to cast down with sword the horn of thy altar.	8 Tu Nombre es «¡Señor!» ¡Quebranta su poder con tu fuerza! ¡Abate su poderío con tu cólera!, pues planean profanar tu santuario, manchar la Tienda en que reposa la Gloria de tu Nombre, y derribar con fuerza el cuerno de tu altar.
9 Behold their pride, and send thy wrath upon their heads: give into mine hand, which am a widow, the power that I have conceived.	9 Mira su altivez, y suelta tu ira sobre sus cabezas; da a mi mano de viuda fuerza para lo que he proyectado.
10 Smite by the deceit of my lips the servant with the prince, and the prince with the servant: break down their stateliness by the hand of a woman.	10 Hiere al esclavo con el jefe, y al jefe con su siervo, por la astucia de mis labios. Abate su soberbia por mano de mujer.
11 For thy power standeth not in multitude nor thy might in strong men: for thou art a God of the afflicted, an helper of the oppressed, an upholder of the weak, a protector of the forlorn, a saviour of them that are without hope.	11 No está en el número tu fuerza, ni tu poder en los valientes, sino que eres el Dios de los humildes, el defensor de los pequeños, apoyo de los débiles, refugio de los desvalidos, salvador de los desesperados.
12 I pray thee, I pray thee, O God of my father, and God of the inheritance of Israel, Lord of the heavens and earth, Creator of the waters, king of every creature, hear thou my prayer:	12 ¡Sí, sí! Dios de mi padre y Dios de la herencia de Israel, Señor de los cielos y la tierra, Creador de las aguas, Rey de toda tu creación, ¡escucha mi plegaria!
13 And make my speech and deceit to be their wound and stripe, who have purposed cruel things against thy covenant, and thy hallowed house, and against the top of Sion, and against the house of the possession of thy children.	13 Dame una palabra seductora para herir y matar a los que traman duras decisiones contra tu alianza, contra tu santa Casa y contra el monte Sión y la casa propiedad de tus hijos.
14 And make every nation and tribe to acknowledge that thou art the God of all power and might, and that there is none other that protecteth the people of Israel but thou.	14 Haz conocer a toda nación y toda tribu que tú eres Yahveh, Dios de todo poder y toda fuerza, y que no hay otro protector fuera de ti para la estirpe de Israel.
