1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.	1 Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya des messagers à David avec du bois de cèdre, des tailleurs de pierre et des charpentiers pour lui bâtir un palais.
2 And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.	2 David sut alors que Yahvé l’avait établi roi sur Israël: son royaume était en train de monter pour le bien des Israélites.
3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.	3 David prit encore des femmes à Jérusalem: il en eut des fils et des filles.
4 Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,	4 Voici les noms de ces fils qui lui sont nés à Jérusalem: Chammoua, Chobab, Nathan, Salomon,
5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,	5 Yibhar, Élichoua, Elpalet,
6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,	6 Noga, Népheg, Yafia,
7 And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.	7 Élichama, Baalyada, Élifélèt.
8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.	8 Quand les Philistins apprirent que David avait été consacré comme roi sur tout Israël, ils marchèrent tous sur lui pour le capturer. En apprenant cela, David partit à leur rencontre.
9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.	9 Les Philistins arrivèrent et commencèrent à se déployer dans la vallée des Réphaïm.
10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.	10 David alors consulta Yahvé: “Dois-je attaquer les Philistins? Vas-tu me les livrer?” Yahvé lui répondit: “Attaque! Je te les livrerai!”
11 So they came up to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.	11 Les Philistins montèrent vers Baal-Pérasim, et là David les battit. David dit: “Dieu a fait une brèche à travers eux comme ferait l’eau dans une digue.” C’est pour cela qu’on donna à ce lieu le nom de Baal-Pérasim.
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.	12 Ils avaient abandonné là leurs dieux et David donna l’ordre de les brûler.
13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.	13 Les Philistins se déployèrent de nouveau dans la vallée.
14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.	14 De nouveau David consulta Dieu, et Dieu lui répondit: “Ne les attaque pas de face mais contourne-les. Prépare-toi à les attaquer de l’autre côté près des micocouliers.
15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.	15 Quand tu entendras un bruit de pas dans le haut de ces arbres, lance ton attaque: c’est Dieu qui passe devant toi pour battre l’armée des Philistins.”
16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.	16 David fit comme Yahvé le lui avait ordonné: ils battirent l’armée philistine depuis Gabaon jusqu’à Guézer.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.	17 La renommée de David s’étendit partout et Yahvé le rendit redoutable à toutes les nations.
