1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.	1 L'anno dodicesimo di Acaz re di Giuda, Osea, figlio di Ela, divenne re d'Israele in Samaria, dove regnò per nove anni.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.	2 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, non però come i re d'Israele che furono prima di lui.
3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.	3 Salmanassar, re di Assiria, salì contro Osea che si sottomise e gli pagò un tributo.
4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.	4 Il re di Assiria però scoprì che Osea lo tradiva: aveva infatti inviato dei messaggeri a So, re di Egitto, e non aveva più consegnato il tributo al re di Assiria come era solito fare ogni anno. Allora il re d'Assiria lo fece arrestare e lo fece rinchiudere in carcere.
5 Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.	5 Il re d'Assiria invase tutto il paese e giunse a Samaria, cui pose l'assedio per tre anni.
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.	6 L'anno nono di Osea, il re d'Assiria espugnò Samaria, deportò gli Israeliti in Assiria e li stabilì a Calach, sul Cabor, fiume di Gozan, e nelle città della Media.
7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharoah king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,	7 Questo accadde perché i figli d'Israele avevano peccato contro il Signore, loro Dio, che li aveva fatti uscire dal paese d'Egitto, sottraendoli alla mano del faraone, re di Egitto. Essi infatti avevano adorato gli dèi stranieri,
8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.	8 avevano seguito le usanze delle genti che il Signore aveva cacciato di fronte ai figli d'Israele e le usanze che i re d'Israele avevano introdotto.
9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.	9 I figli d'Israele macchinarono contro il Signore loro Dio cose che non erano rette; si costruirono alture in ogni loro città, dalla torre di guardia fino alla città fortificata;
10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:	10 si eressero stele e pali sacri su ogni collina elevata e sotto ogni albero frondoso.
11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:	11 Là, su ogni altura, alla maniera delle genti che il Signore aveva cacciato di fronte ad essi, offrirono sacrifici e fecero cose malvagie, da irritare il Signore.
12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.	12 Essi adorarono gli idoli, sebbene il Signore avesse detto loro: "Non fate una simile cosa!".
13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.	13 Eppure il Signore, attraverso tutti i profeti e tutti i veggenti, aveva ingiunto a Israele e a Giuda: "Convertitevi dalla vostra malvagia condotta, osservate i miei comandamenti e i miei statuti, secondo tutta la legge che ho prescritto ai vostri padri e che vi ho comunicato mediante i profeti miei servi".
14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.	14 Essi però non prestarono ascolto e indurirono la loro cervice come l'avevano indurita i loro padri che non erano stati fedeli al Signore loro Dio.
15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.	15 Disprezzarono i suoi statuti, l'alleanza ch'egli aveva concluso con i loro padri e gli ordini che egli aveva loro dato; andarono dietro alla vacuità degli idoli e divennero essi stessi vacui, imitando le genti che li circondavano, mentre il Signore aveva loro comandato di non agire come quelle.
16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.	16 Rigettarono tutti i precetti del Signore, loro Dio, e si fecero idoli fusi, i due torelli; si fecero pure pali sacri e si prostrarono a tutto l'esercito del cielo e venerarono Baal.
17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.	17 Inoltre bruciarono i loro figli e le loro figlie, praticarono la divinazione e gli incantesimi e si prestarono a compiere ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, così da provocarne lo sdegno.
18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.	18 Il Signore si irritò grandemente contro Israele e lo cacciò dal suo cospetto; non rimase che la sola tribù di Giuda.
19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.	19 Ma neppure Giuda osservò i precetti del Signore, suo Dio, e imitò le usanze che Israele aveva praticato.
20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.	20 Perciò il Signore rigettò tutta la stirpe d'Israele, li afflisse e li diede in mano dei saccheggiatori, fino a che non li cacciò dal suo cospetto.
21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.	21 Egli infatti separò Israele dalla casa di Davide, ed essi proclamarono re Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt; Geroboamo allontanò Israele dal Signore e lo indusse a commettere un grave peccato.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;	22 I figli d'Israele imitarono tutti i peccati che Geroboamo aveva commesso e non si staccarono da essi,
23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.	23 fino a che il Signore non cacciò Israele dal suo cospetto, come aveva predetto per mezzo di tutti i profeti suoi servi, e deportò Israele dalla sua terra in Assiria dove si trova fino ad oggi.
24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.	24 Il re di Assiria fece venire popolazioni da Babilonia, da Cuta, da Avva, da Camat e da Sefarvàim e le stabilì nelle città della Samaria al posto dei figli d'Israele. Quelli presero possesso della Samaria e abitarono nelle sue città.
25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.	25 All'inizio del loro stanziamento là, esse non veneravano il Signore; perciò il Signore mandò contro di loro dei leoni che ne fecero un massacro.
26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.	26 Allora dissero al re di Assiria: "Le popolazioni che tu hai deportato e hai stabilito nelle città della Samaria non conoscono il rito del dio del paese. Questi ha mandato contro di essi dei leoni che li fanno morire, perché essi non conoscono il rito del dio del paese".
27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.	27 Il re di Assiria diede quest'ordine: "Fatevi ritornare uno dei sacerdoti che avete deportato di là; egli vada, vi abiti e insegni loro i riti del dio del paese".
28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.	28 Uno dei sacerdoti che erano stati deportati da Samaria venne a stabilirsi a Betel e insegnò loro come dovevano venerare il Signore.
29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.	29 Ogni popolazione però si fece il proprio dio e lo collocò nei templi delle alture che i Samaritani s'erano costruiti; ogni popolazione agì così nelle città in cui abitava.
30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,	30 Gli uomini di Babilonia fecero Succot-Benot; gli uomini di Cuta fecero Nergal; e gli uomini di Camat fecero Asima.
31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.	31 Gli Avviti fecero Nibcaz e Tartach; i Sefarviti bruciarono i loro figli in onore di Adram-Mèlech e di Anam-Mèlech, divinità di Sefarvàim.
32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.	32 Essi veneravano anche il Signore e si fecero dei sacerdoti delle alture, provenienti dalla loro cerchia, i quali officiavano per loro nei templi delle alture.
33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.	33 Essi veneravano il Signore assieme ai loro dèi, secondo il rito delle genti da cui erano stati deportati.
34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;	34 A tutt'oggi essi agiscono secondo i loro riti antichi. Pertanto non venerano il Signore né agiscono secondo i suoi statuti e i suoi riti, né secondo la legge e il comando che il Signore ha trasmesso ai figli di Giacobbe cui impose il nome di Israele.
35 With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:	35 Il Signore, infatti, aveva stipulato con essi un'alleanza e aveva loro ordinato: "Non venerate gli dèi stranieri, non prostratevi davanti ad essi, non tributate loro il culto e non offrite loro dei sacrifici;
36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.	36 bensì venerate solo il Signore che vi ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto con grande potenza e braccio disteso; davanti a lui solo prostratevi e a lui solo offrite sacrifici.
37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.	37 Osservate gli statuti e i decreti, la legge e il comando che egli scrisse per voi affinché li pratichiate tutti i giorni; ma non venerate gli dèi stranieri.
38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.	38 Non dimenticate il patto che ho stipulato con voi né venerate gli dèi stranieri.
39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.	39 Venerate soltanto il Signore, vostro Dio, ed egli vi libererà dalla mano di tutti i vostri nemici".
40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.	40 Essi però non prestarono ascolto, ma continuarono ad agire secondo i loro antichi riti.
41 So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.	41 Così quelle popolazioni veneravano il Signore e, nello stesso tempo, rendevano il culto ai loro idoli. Anche i loro figli e i figli dei loro figli continuano a fare fino ad oggi come avevano fatto i loro padri.
