1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.	1 Osée, fils d’Éla commença à régner sur Israël, à Samarie, en la douzième année d’Akaz, roi de Juda; il régna 9 ans.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.	2 Il fit ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, mais pas autant que les rois d’Israël qui l’avaient précédé.
3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.	3 Salmanasar roi d’Assyrie vint l’attaquer, et Osée dut se soumettre: il lui paya un tribut.
4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.	4 Mais le roi d’Assyrie s’aperçut que Osée conspirait contre lui: il avait envoyé des messagers à Saïs, vers le roi d’Égypte, et il ne payait plus le tribut, comme chaque année, au roi d’Assyrie. Celui-ci le fit donc arrêter et mettre en prison, enchaîné.
5 Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.	5 Le roi d’Assyrie envahit tout le pays; il arriva devant Samarie et l’assiégea durant trois ans.
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.	6 La neuvième année d’Osée, le roi d’Assyrie s’empara de Samarie et il déporta les Israélites en Assyrie. Il les établit à Halah sur le Habor, le fleuve de Gozan, ainsi que dans les villes de Médie.
7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharoah king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,	7 Cela arriva parce que les fils d’Israël avaient péché contre Yahvé leur Dieu, qui les avait fait monter du pays d’Égypte et les avait délivrés de la main du Pharaon, roi d’Égypte: ils s’étaient tournés vers d’autre dieux.
8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.	8 Les Israélites imitèrent les coutumes des nations que Yahvé avait dépossédées devant les fils d’Israël.
9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.	9 Ils prononcèrent contre Yahvé, leur Dieu, des paroles indécentes, ils se construisirent des Hauts-Lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis la tour de garde jusqu’à la ville fortifiée.
10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:	10 Ils mirent des pierres levées et des pieux sacrés sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert.
11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:	11 Et là, dans tous ces Hauts-Lieux, ils faisaient fumer l’encens comme avaient fait les nations que Yahvé avait chassées devant eux; ils commirent encore toutes sortes d’actions mauvaises pour mettre Yahvé en colère.
12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.	12 Ils se mirent au service de sales idoles alors que Yahvé leur avait dit: “Vous ne ferez pas cela.”
13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.	13 Pourtant Yahvé avait solennellement averti Israël et Juda par la bouche de tous les prophètes et de tous les voyants: “Renoncez à votre mauvaise conduite et observez mes commandements et mes ordres, selon cette Loi que j’ai ordonnée à vos pères et que je vous ai communiquée par la bouche de mes serviteurs les prophètes.”
14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.	14 Mais ils n’écoutèrent pas. Et plus encore que leurs pères, qui n’avaient pas cru en Yahvé, leur Dieu, ils firent la forte tête.
15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.	15 Ils méprisèrent ses commandements et l’Alliance qu’il avait conclue avec leurs pères, les ordonnances qu’il leur avait données. Ils s’attachèrent à des idoles inutiles et devinrent eux-mêmes aussi inutiles que leurs idoles, comme les nations qui les entouraient, alors que Yahvé leur avait commandé de ne pas les imiter.
16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.	16 Ils abandonnèrent tous les commandements de Yahvé leur Dieu, ils se firent des idoles de métal: leurs deux veaux! Ils dressèrent des pieux sacrés, ils se prosternèrent devant toutes les puissances du ciel, et ils servirent Baal.
17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.	17 Ils sacrifièrent leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, ils pratiquèrent la sorcellerie et la magie, ils se vendirent pour faire ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, pour le mettre en colère.
18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.	18 Finalement, Yahvé s’emporta contre Israël et le rejeta loin de lui. Seule la tribu de Juda est restée.
19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.	19 Mais Juda non plus n’a pas observé les commandements de Yahvé, son Dieu; ils ont imité les pratiques qui étaient devenues habituelles en Israël.
20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.	20 C’est pourquoi Yahvé a rejeté toute la race d’Israël, il les a frappés, il les a livrés aux mains de pillards et en fin de compte il les a rejetés loin de lui.
21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.	21 Lorsque Jéroboam fils de Nabat a arraché Israël à la maison de David, lorsqu’on l’a consacré comme roi, il a éloigné Israël loin de Yahvé: il lui a fait commettre un grand péché.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;	22 Les Israélites ont persévéré dans tous les péchés que Jéroboam avait commis, ils ne s’en sont pas détournés.
23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.	23 Si bien qu’à la fin Yahvé a rejeté Israël loin de lui, comme il l’avait dit par la bouche de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes; Israël a été déporté en Assyrie loin de sa terre jusqu’à ce jour.
24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.	24 Le roi d’Assyrie fit venir des gens de Babylone, de Kouta, d’Avva, de Hamat, et de Séfarvayim; il les installa dans les villes de Samarie à la place des Israélites. Ils prirent ainsi possession de la Samarie et s’établirent dans ses villes.
25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.	25 Au début, quand ils s’installèrent dans ce lieu, ces gens n’honoraient pas Yahvé, aussi Yahvé envoya-t-il contre eux des lions qui en firent un carnage.
26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.	26 Alors ils dirent au roi d’Assyrie: “Les nations que tu as déportées et installées dans les villes de Samarie ne connaissent pas la Loi du Dieu du pays. C’est pourquoi il a envoyé contre elles des lions et ceux-ci les font mourir, car ils ne connaissent pas la Loi du Dieu du pays.”
27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.	27 Le roi d’Assyrie donna donc cet ordre: “Renvoyez là-bas l’un des prêtres que j’ai déportés, il s’y établira et il leur apprendra la Loi du Dieu du pays.”
28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.	28 L’un des prêtres de Samarie qui avaient été déportés y alla donc; il s’établit à Béthel et il leur apprit comment on devait honorer Yahvé.
29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.	29 Mais chaque nation se faisait ses propres dieux et les plaçait dans les maisons des Hauts-Lieux que les Samaritains avaient construits, chaque nation dans les villes où elle habitait.
30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,	30 Ainsi les gens de Babylone se firent un Soukot-Bénot; les gens de Kouta, un Nergal; ceux de Hamat, un Achima;
31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.	31 les Avvites se firent un Nibhaz et un Tartak; les gens de Séfarvayim faisaient passer leurs enfants par le feu en l’honneur d’Adramélek et d’Anamélek, les divinités de Séfarvayim.
32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.	32 Ils servaient aussi Yahvé, c’est pourquoi ils choisirent parmi eux des prêtres pour les Hauts-Lieux, pour servir en leur nom dans les maisons des Hauts-Lieux.
33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.	33 Ils servaient Yahvé mais ils servaient aussi leurs dieux selon les coutumes des nations d’où ils avaient été déportés.
34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;	34 Jusqu’à ce jour ils suivent leurs anciennes coutumes. Ils n’honorent pas vraiment Yahvé, car ils ne tiennent pas compte de ses rites et de ses coutumes, selon la Loi et le commandement que Yahvé a donnés aux fils de Jacob, l’homme à qui il a donné le nom d’Israël.
35 With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:	35 Yahvé avait conclu avec eux une Alliance et il leur avait donné cet ordre: “Vous ne servirez pas les dieux étrangers, vous ne vous prosternerez pas devant eux, vous ne leur rendrez pas de culte et vous ne leur offrirez pas de sacrifices:
36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.	36 vous n’aurez que Yahvé, qui vous a fait monter du pays d’Égypte en montrant sa force, en frappant de grands coups. C’est lui que vous servirez, c’est devant lui que vous vous prosternerez et c’est à lui que vous offrirez des sacrifices.
37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.	37 “Vous observerez et vous mettrez en pratique tous les jours les préceptes, les ordonnances, la Loi et le commandement qu’il a écrits pour vous; vous ne servirez pas d’autres dieux.
38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.	38 N’oubliez pas l’Alliance que j’ai conclue avec vous et ne servez pas d’autres dieux.
39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.	39 C’est Yahvé, votre Dieu, que vous servirez, lui vous délivrera de la main de tous vos ennemis.”
40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.	40 Mais ils n’ont pas entendu, ils continuent avec leurs anciennes coutumes.
41 So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.	41 Ainsi donc, ces nations craignaient Yahvé mais elles servaient aussi leurs idoles, et leurs fils et leurs petits-fils agissent jusqu’à ce jour comme faisaient leurs pères.
