1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.	1 Al cominciar dell'anno, nel tempo che i re fanno spedizioni, Davide mandò Ioab con i suoi servi e tutto Israele a devastare il paese degli Ammoniti: essi posero l'assedio a Rabbà, mentre Davide stava a Gerusalemme.
2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.	2 Un pomeriggio Davide, alzatosi dal letto, passeggiava sulla terrazza della reggia, quando vide dall'alto della terrazza una donna che si lavava. La donna aveva un aspetto molto bello.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?	3 Davide mandò a prendere informazioni sulla donna e gli fu risposto: "E' Betsabea, figlia di Eliàm, moglie di Uria l'hittita".
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.	4 Davide mandò dei messaggeri per prenderla. Ella andò da lui ed egli dormì con lei, che si era appena purificata dalla sua impurità; poi fece ritorno a casa sua.
5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.	5 La donna concepì e mandò a informare Davide: "Sono incinta".
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.	6 Allora Davide ordinò a Ioab: "Mandami Uria l'hittita". Ioab mandò Uria da Davide.
7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.	7 Quando Uria giunse da lui, Davide gli domandò notizie sullo stato di Ioab, del popolo e della guerra.
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.	8 Poi Davide disse a Uria: "Scendi a casa tua e làvati i piedi". Allora Uria uscì dalla casa del re seguito da una porzione delle vivande del re.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.	9 Ma Uria dormì all'ingresso della casa del re con tutti i servi del suo sovrano senza scendere a casa sua.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?	10 Ne informarono Davide dicendo: "Uria non è sceso a casa sua". Allora Davide disse a Uria: "Non vieni da un viaggio? Perché non sei sceso a casa tua?".
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.	11 Uria rispose a Davide: "L'arca, Israele e Giuda abitano sotto le tende; il mio signore Ioab e i servi del mio signore bivaccano in campo aperto, e io dovrei entrare nella mia casa per mangiare e bere e per dormire con mia moglie? Per te e per la tua vita, non farò mai questa cosa!".
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.	12 Davide disse a Uria: "Rimani qui anche oggi e domani ti rimanderò". Così Uria rimase quel giorno a Gerusalemme e il giorno successivo.
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.	13 Davide lo invitò a mangiare e a bere insieme con lui e lo ubriacò. Ma la sera uscì a dormire nel suo giaciglio insieme con i servi del suo sovrano e non discese a casa sua.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.	14 L'indomani mattina Davide scrisse una lettera a Ioab e la mandò per mano di Uria.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.	15 Nella lettera aveva scritto così: "Ponete Uria sul fronte della battaglia più dura, poi ritiratevi da lui, perché sia colpito e muoia".
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.	16 Nel disporre la vigilanza alla città, Ioab pose Uria nel luogo dove sapeva che vi erano uomini valorosi.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.	17 Gli abitanti della città fecero un'irruzione e attaccarono Ioab, ci furono dei caduti tra il popolo, tra i servi di Davide, e morì anche Uria l'hittita.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;	18 Ioab mandò a informare Davide su tutte le vicende della guerra.
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,	19 Dette quest'ordine al messaggero: "Quando avrai finito di esporre al re tutte le vicende della guerra,
20 And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?	20 se per caso scoppiasse l'ira del re e ti dicesse: "Perché vi siete avvicinati alla città per combattere? Non sapevate che si scagliano saette dalle mura?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	21 Chi colpì Abimelech, figlio di Ierub-Baal? Una donna non gli gettò addosso forse la mola superiore da sopra le mura, e quello morì a Tebez? Perché vi siete avvicinati alle mura?", allora dirai: "E' morto anche il tuo servo Uria l'hittita!".
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.	22 Il messaggero partì e andò a riferire a Davide tutto quello per cui Ioab lo aveva inviato. Davide s'accese d'ira contro Ioab e disse al messaggero: "Perché vi siete avvicinati alla città per combattere? Non sapevate che sareste stati colpiti dall'alto delle mura? Chi colpì Abimelech, figlio di Ierub-Baal? Una donna non gli gettò forse addosso la mola superiore da sopra le mura, e quello morì a Tebez? Perché vi siete avvicinati alle mura?".
23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.	23 Il messaggero spiegò a Davide: "E' stato che quegli uomini, essendo più forti di noi, sono usciti contro di noi in campo aperto, ma noi ci siamo rifatti contro di loro fino all'ingresso della porta.
24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	24 Allora gli arcieri hanno scagliato saette sui tuoi servi da sopra le mura; così sono morti alcuni servi del re ed è morto anche il tuo servo Uria l'hittita".
25 Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.	25 Davide disse al messaggero: "Così dirai a Ioab: "Non ti sembri un gran danno quanto è accaduto, perché la spada divora ora questo ora quello; riprendi con più lena la tua lotta contro la città e distruggila!". Tu poi fagli coraggio!".
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.	26 Quando la moglie di Uria udì che suo marito Uria era morto, fece lamenti sul suo signore.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.	27 Passato il lutto, Davide mandò a prenderla e l'accolse nella sua casa: diventò sua moglie e gli partorì un figlio. Ma questa azione compiuta da Davide fu cattiva agli occhi del Signore.
