1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.	1 A la vuelta del año, al tiempo que los reyes salen a campaña, envió David a Joab con sus veteranos y todo Israel. Derrotaron a los ammonitas y pusieron sitio a Rabbá, mientras David se quedó en Jerusalén.
2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.	2 Un atardecer se levantó David de su lecho y se paseaba por el terrado de la casa del rey cuando vio desde lo alto del terrado a una mujer que se estaba bañando. Era una mujer muy hermosa.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?	3 Mandó David para informarse sobre la mujer y le dijeron: «Es Betsabé, hija de Eliam, mujer de Urías el hitita».
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.	4 David envió gente que la trajese; llegó donde David y él se acostó con ella, cuando acababa de purificarse de sus reglas. Y ella se volvió a su casa.
5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.	5 La mujer quedó embarazada y envió a decir a David: «Estoy encinta».
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.	6 David mandó decir a Joab: «Envíame a Urías el hitita». Joab envió a Urías adonde David.
7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.	7 Llegó Urías donde él y David le preguntó por Joab, y por el ejército y por la marcha de la guerra.
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.	8 Y dijo David a Urías: «Baja a tu casa y lava tus pies». Salió Urías de la casa del rey, seguido de un obsequio de la mesa real.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.	9 Pero Urías se acostó a la entrada de la casa del rey, con la guardia de su señor, y no bajó a su casa.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?	10 Avisaron a David: «Urías no ha bajado a su casa». Preguntó David a Urías: «¿No vienes de un viaje? ¿Por qué no has bajado a tu casa?
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.	11 Urías respondió a David: «El arca, Israel y Judá habitan en tiendas; Joab mi señor y los siervos de mi señor acampan en el suelo ¿y voy a entrar yo en mi casa para comer, beber y acostarme con mi mujer? ¡Por tu vida y la vida de tu alma, no haré tal!»
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.	12 Entonces David dijo a Urías: «Quédate hoy también y mañana te despediré». Se quedó Urías aquel día en Jerusalén y al día siguiente
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.	13 le invitó David a comer con él y le hizo beber hasta emborracharse. Por la tarde salió y se acostó en el lecho, con la guardia de su señor, pero no bajó a su casa.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.	14 A la mañana siguiente escribió David una carta a Joab y se la envió por medio de Urías.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.	15 En la carta había escrito: «Poned a Urías frente a lo más reñido de la batalla y retiraos de detrás de él para que sea herido y muera».
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.	16 Estaba Joab asediando la ciudad y colocó a Urías en el sitio en que sabía que estaban los hombres más valientes.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.	17 Los hombres de la ciudad hicieron una salida y atacaron a Joab; cayeron algunos del ejército de entre los veteranos de David; y murió también Urías el hitita.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;	18 Joab envió a comunicar a David todas las noticias de la guerra,
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,	19 y ordenó al mensajero: «Cuando hayas acabado de decir al rey todas las noticias sobre la batalla,
20 And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?	20 si salta la cólera del rey de te dice: “¿Por qué os habéis acercado a la ciudad para atacarla? ¿No sabíais que tirarían sobre vosotros desde la muralla?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	21 ¿Quien mató a Abimélek, el hijo de Yerubbaal? ¿No arrojó una mujer sobre él una piedra de molino desde lo alto de la muralla y murió él en Tebés? ¿Por qué os habéis acercado a la muralla?”, tú le dices: También ha muerto tu siervo Urías el hitita».
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.	22 Partió el mensajero y en llegando comunicó a David todo lo que le había mandado Joab. David se irritó contra Joab y dijo al mensajero: «¿Por qué os habéis acercado a la muralla para luchar? ¿Quién mató a Abimélek, el hijo de Yerubbaal? ¿No arrojó una mujer sobre él una piedra de molino desde lo alto de la muralla y murió él en Tebés? ¿Por qué os habéis acercado a la muralla?»
23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.	23 El mensajero dijo a David: «Aquellos hombres se crecieron frente a nosotros, hicieron una salida contra nosotros en campo raso y los rechazamos hasta la entrada de la puerta,
24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	24 pero los arqueros tiraron contra tus veteranos desde lo alto de la muralla y murieron algunos de los veteranos del rey. También murió tu siervo Urías el hitita».
25 Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.	25 Entonces David dijo al mensajero: «Esto has de decir a Joab: “No te inquietes por este asunto, porque la espada devora ya a uno ya a otro. Redobla tu ataque contra la ciudad y destrúyela.” Y así le darás ánimos».
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.	26 Supo la mujer de Urías que había muerto Urías su marido e hizo duelo por su señor.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.	27 Pasado el luto, David envió por ella y la recibió en su casa haciéndola su mujer; ella le dio a luz un hijo; pero aquella acción que David había hecho desagradó a Yahveh.
