2 Samuel 11

1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.	1 Au retour de l'année, au temps où les rois se mettent en campagne, David envoya Joab et avec luisa garde et tout Israël: ils massacrèrent les Ammonites et mirent le siège devant Rabba. Cependant David restaità Jérusalem.
2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.	2 Il arriva que, vers le soir, David, s'étant levé de sa couche et se promenant sur la terrasse dupalais, aperçut, de la terrasse, une femme qui se baignait. Cette femme était très belle.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?	3 David fit prendre des informations sur cette femme, et on répondit: "Mais c'est Bethsabée, filled'Eliam et femme d'Urie le Hittite!"
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.	4 Alors David envoya des émissaires et la fit chercher. Elle vint chez lui et il coucha avec elle,alors qu'elle venait de se purifier de ses règles. Puis elle retourna dans sa maison.
5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.	5 La femme conçut et elle envoya dire à David: "Je suis enceinte!"
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.	6 Alors David expédia un message à Joab: "Envoie-moi Urie le Hittite", et Joab envoya Urie àDavid.
7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.	7 Lorsqu'Urie fut arrivé auprès de lui, David demanda comment allaient Joab et l'armée et laguerre.
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.	8 Puis David dit à Urie: "Descends à ta maison et lave-toi les pieds." Urie sortit du palais, suivid'un présent de la table royale.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.	9 Mais Urie coucha à la porte du palais avec tous les gardes de son maître et ne descendit pas à samaison.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?	10 On en informa David: "Urie, lui dit-on, n'est pas descendu à sa maison." David demanda à Urie:"N'arrives-tu pas de voyage? Pourquoi n'es-tu pas descendu à ta maison?"
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.	11 Urie répondit à David: "L'arche, Israël et Juda logent sous les huttes, mon maître Joab et lagarde de Monseigneur campent en rase campagne, et moi j'irais à ma maison pour manger et boire et coucheravec ma femme! Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant et que tu vis toi-même, je ne ferai pas une chose pareille!"
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.	12 Alors David dit à Urie: "Reste encore aujourd'hui ici, et demain je te donnerai congé." Urieresta donc à Jérusalem ce jour-là. Le lendemain,
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.	13 David l'invita à manger et à boire en sa présence et il l'enivra. Le soir Urie sortit et s'étendit sursa couche avec les gardes de son maître, mais il ne descendit pas à sa maison.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.	14 Le matin suivant, David écrivit une lettre à Joab et la fit porter par Urie.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.	15 Il écrivait dans la lettre: "Mettez Urie au plus fort de la mêlée et reculez derrière lui: qu'il soitfrappé et qu'il meure."
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.	16 Joab, qui bloquait la ville, plaça Urie à l'endroit où il savait que se trouvaient de vaillantsguerriers.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.	17 Les gens de la ville firent une sortie et attaquèrent Joab. Il y eut des tués dans l'armée, parmi lesgardes de David, et Urie le Hittite mourut aussi.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;	18 Joab envoya à David un compte-rendu de tous les détails du combat.
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,	19 Il donna cet ordre au messager: "Quand tu auras fini de raconter au roi tous les détails ducombat,
20 And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?	20 si la colère du roi s'élève et qu'il te dise: Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés de la ville pourlivrer bataille? Ne saviez-vous pas qu'on tire du haut des remparts?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	21 Qui a tué Abimélek, le fils de Yerubbaal? N'est-ce pas une femme, qui a lancé une meule surlui, du haut du rempart, et il est mort à Tébèç? Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés du rempart?, tu diras: Tonserviteur Urie le Hittite est mort lui aussi."
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.	22 Le messager partit et, à son arrivée, il rapporta à David tout le message dont Joab l'avait chargé.David s'emporta contre Joab et dit au messager: "Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés du rempart de la ville pourlivrer bataille? Ne saviez-vous pas qu'on tire du haut des remparts? Qui a tué Abimélek, le fils de Yerubbaal?N'est-ce pas une femme qui a jeté une meule sur lui du haut du rempart, et il est mort à Tébèç? Pourquoi vousêtes-vous approchés du rempart?"
23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.	23 Le messager répondit à David: "C'est que ces gens l'avaient emporté sur nous et étaient sortisvers nous en rase campagne, nous les avons refoulés jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte
24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	24 mais les archers ont tiré sur tes gardes du haut des remparts, certains des gardes du roi ont périet ton serviteur Urie le Hittite est mort lui aussi."
25 Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.	25 Alors David dit au messager: "Voici ce que tu diras à Joab: Que cette affaire ne t'affecte pas:l'épée dévore tantôt celui-ci et tantôt celui-là. Force ton attaque contre la ville et détruis-là. Ainsi tu lui rendrascourage."
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.	26 Lorsque la femme d'Urie apprit que son époux, Urie, était mort, elle fit le deuil pour son mari.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.	27 Quand le deuil fut achevé, David l'envoya chercher et la recueillit chez lui, et elle devint safemme. Elle lui enfanta un fils. Mais l'action que David avait commise avait déplut à Yahvé.
