2 Samuel 11

1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.	1 Al comienzo del año, en la época en que los reyes salen de campaña, David envió a Joab con sus servidores y todo Israel, y ellos arrasaron a los amonitas y sitiaron Rabá. Mientras tanto, David permanecía en Jerusalén.
2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.	2 Una tarde, después que se levantó de la siesta, David se puso a caminar por la azotea del palacio real, y desde allí vio a una mujer que se estaba bañando. La mujer era muy hermosa.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?	3 David mandó a averiguar quién era esa mujer, y le dijeron: «¡Pero si es Betsabé, hija de Eliam, la mujer de Urías, el hitita!».
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.	4 Entonces David mandó unos mensajeros para que se la trajeran. La mujer vino, y David se acostó con ella, que acababa de purificarse de su menstruación. Después ella volvió a su casa.
5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.	5 La mujer quedó embarazada y envió a David este mensaje: «Estoy embarazada».
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.	6 Entonces David mandó decir a Joab: «Envíame a Urías, el hitita». Joab se lo envió,
7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.	7 y cuando Urías se presentó ante el rey, David le preguntó cómo estaban Joab y la tropa y cómo iba la guerra.
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.	8 Luego David dijo a Urías: «Baja a tu casa y lávate los pies». Urías salió de la casa del rey y le mandaron detrás un obsequio de la mesa real.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.	9 Pero Urías se acostó a la puerta de la casa del rey junto a todos los servidores de su señor, y no bajó a su casa.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?	10 Cuando informaron a David que Urías no había bajado a su casa, el rey le dijo: «Tú acabas de llegar de viaje. ¿Por qué no has bajado a tu casa?».
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.	11 Urías respondió a David: «El Arca, Israel y Judá viven en tiendas de campaña; mi señor Joab y los servidores de mi señor acampan a la intemperie, ¿y yo iré a mi casa a comer, a beber y a acostarme con mi mujer» ¡Por la vida del Señor y por tu propia vida, nunca haré una cosa sí!».
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.	12 David dijo entonces a Urías: «Quédate aquí todavía hoy, y mañana te dejaré partir». Urías se quedó en Jerusalén aquel día y el día siguiente.
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.	13 David lo invitó a comer y a beber en su presencia y lo embriagó. A la noche, Urías salió y se acostó junto a los servidores de su señor, pero no bajó a su casa.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.	14 A la mañana siguiente, David escribió una carta a Joab y se la mandó por intermedio de Urías.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.	15 En esa carta, había escrito lo siguiente: «Pongan a Urías en primera línea, donde el combate sea más encarnizado, y después déjenlo solo, para que sea herido y muera».
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.	16 Joab, que tenía cercada la ciudad, puso a Urías en el sitio donde sabía que estaban los soldados más aguerridos.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.	17 Los hombres de la ciudad hicieron una salida y atacaron a Joab. Así cayeron unos cuantos servidores de David, y también murió Urías, el hitita.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;	18 Joab envió a David el parte de batalla,
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,	19 y dio esta orden al mensajero: «Cuando termines de comunicar al rey el parte de batalla,
20 And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?	20 si él se enfurece y te dice: «¿Por qué se acercaron tanto a la ciudad para librar combate? ¿No sabían que arrojan proyectiles desde lo alto de la muralla?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	21 ¿Quién hirió mortalmente a Abimélec, hijo de Ierubaal? ¿No fue una mujer la que le arrojó una piedra de molino desde lo alto del muro, y así murió en Tébes? ¿Por qué se acercaron tanto a la muralla?», entonces tú le dirás: «También ha muerto tu servidor Urías, el hitita».
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.	22 El mensajero partió y fue a comunicar a David todo lo que Joab le había mandado decir.
23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.	23 El mensajero dijo a David: «Esa gente logró sacarnos ventaja. Hicieron una salida contra nosotros en campo raso, pero lo hicimos retroceder hasta la entrada de la ciudad.
24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.	24 Entonces los arqueros dispararon contra tus servidores desde lo alto del muro, y murieron unos cuantos servidores del rey. También murió tu servidor Urías, el hitita».
25 Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.	25 David respondió al mensajero: «Esto es lo que dirás a Joab: «No se preocupes por lo que ha sucedido. La espada devora hoy a este y mañana a aquel. Intensifica el ataque contra la ciudad, y destrúyela». Así le devolverás el ánimo».
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.	26 Cuando la mujer de Urías se enteró de que su marido había muerto, estuvo de duelo por él.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.	27 Cuando dejó de estar de luto, David mandó a buscarla y la recibió en su casa. Ella se convirtió en su esposa y le dio un hijo. Pero lo que había hecho David desagradó al Señor.
