1 And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.	1 Giacobbe adunque abitò nella terra di Chanaan, dove fu pellegrino suo padre.
2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.	2 E questa è la genealogia di lui: Giuseppe essendo di sedici anni pasceva ancor fanciullo il gregge insieme co' suoi fratelli: e stava co' figliuoli di Bala, e di Zelpha, mogli del padre suo; e accusò presso al padre i suoi fratelli di pessimo delitto.
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.	3 Or Israele amava Giuseppe più di tutti i suoi figliuoli, perché lo aveva avuto in vecchiezza: e gli fece una tonaca di vari colori.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.	4 Ma i suoi fratelli veggendo, com'egli era più di tutti gli altri figliuoli amato dal padre, l'odiavano, e non potevano dirgli una parola con amore.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.	5 Avvenne ancora, ch'egli riferì a' suoi fratelli un sogno, che avea veduto: la qual cosa fu un semenzaio di odio maggiore.
6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:	6 E disse loro: Udite il sogno veduto da me:
7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.	7 Mi pareva, che noi legassimo nel campo i manipoli, e che il mio manipolo quasi si alzava, e stava diritto, e che i vostri manipoli stando all'intorno adoravano il mio manipolo.
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.	8 Risposero i suoi fratelli: Sarai tu forse nostro re? o sarem noi soggetti alla tua potestà? Questi sogni adunque, e questi discorsi somministraron esca all'invidia, e all'avversione.
9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.	9 Vide pure un altro sogno, e raccontandolo a' fratelli, disse: Ho veduto in sogno, come se il sole, e la luna, e undici stelle mi adorassero.
10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?	10 La qual cosa avendo egli raccontata al padre, e ai fratelli, suo padre sgridollo, dicendo: Che vuol egli dire questo sogno, che hai veduto? forse che io, e la tua madre, e i tuoi fratelli prostrati per terra ti adoreremo?
11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.	11 I suoi fratelli pertanto gli portavano invidia: il padre poi considerava la cosa in silenzio.
12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.	12 E dimorando i suoi fratelli a pascere i greggi del padre in Sichem,
13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.	13 Israele disse a lui: I tuoi fratelli sono in Sichem alla pastura: vieni, vo' mandarti verso di essi. E avendo egli risposto:
14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.	14 Son pronto, gli disse: Va', e vedi, se tutto va bene riguardo a' tuoi fratelli, e ai bestiami; e riportami quello che ivi si fa. Spedito dalla valle di Hebron arrivò a Sichem:
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?	15 E un uomo lo incontrò, mentre andava qua e là per la campagna, e domandogli, che cercasse.
16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.	16 Ma egli rispose: Cerco i miei fratelli: insegnami, dove sieno a pascere i greggi.
17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.	17 Colui gli disse: Si sono partiti da questo luogo: ed hogli uditi, che dicevano: Andiamo a Dothain. Andò adunque Giuseppe in traccia dei suoi fratelli, e trovogli in Dothain.
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.	18 Ma questi vedutolo da lungi, prima che ad essi si accostasse, disegnarono di ucciderlo:
19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.	19 E dicevano gli uni agli altri: Ecco il signore dei sogni che viene:
20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.	20 Su via, ammazziamolo, e gettiamolo in una vecchia cisterna: e diremo: Una fiera crudele lo ha divorato: e allora apparirà, che giovino a lui i suoi sogni.
21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.	21 Ma Ruben udito questo si affaticava di liberarlo dalle loro mani, e diceva:
22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.	22 Non gli date la morte, e non ispargete il suo sangue: ma gettatelo in questa cisterna, che è nel deserto, e pure serbate le vostre mani. Or ei ciò diceva con volontà di liberarlo dalle loro mani, e restituirlo a suo padre.
23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;	23 Appena adunque giunse presso a' fratelli, lo spogliarono della tonaca talare a varii colori,
24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.	24 E lo calarono nella vecchia cisterna, che era al secco.
25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.	25 E postisi a sedere per mangiare il pane videro dei passeggieri Ismaeliti che venivan di Galaad co' loro cammelli, e portavano aromi, e resina e mirra stillata in Egitto.
26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?	26 Disse adunque Giuda a' suoi fratelli: Qual bene ne avremo noi, se ammazzeremo un nostro fratello, e celeremo la sua morte?
27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.	27 È meglio che si venda agl'Ismaeliti, e che non imbrattiamo le nostre mani: perocché egli è nostro fratello e nostra carne. Si acquietarono i fratelli alle sue parole.
28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.	28 E mentre passavano quei mercanti Madianiti, avendolo tratto dalla cisterna lo venderono a certi Ismaeliti per venti monete d'argento: e questi lo condussero in Egitto.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.	29 E tornato Ruben alla cisterna non vi trovò il fanciullo.
30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go?	30 E stracciatesi le vesti, andò a trovare i suoi fratelli, e disse: Il fanciullo non si vede, e io dove anderò?
31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;	31 Ma quelli preser la tonaca di Giuseppe, e la intriser del sangue di un agnello che aveano ammazzato,
32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no.	32 Mandando persone a portarla al padre, e dirgli: Questa abbiamo trovato: guarda, se è, o no, la tonaca del tuo figliuolo.
33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.	33 E il padre avendola riconosciuta disse: Ella è la tonaca del mio figliuolo: una fiera crudele lo ha mangiato, una bestia ha divorato Giuseppe.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.	34 E stracciatesi le vestimenta, si coprì di cilizio, e pianse per molto tempo il suo figlio.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.	35 Ed essendosi raunati tutti i suoi figliuoli per alleggerire il dolore del padre, non volle egli ammettere consolazione, ma disse: Scenderò piangendo a trovare il mio figliuolo nell'inferno. E mentre egli perseverava nel pianto,
36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.	36 I Madianiti in Egitto venderon Giuseppe a Putifare eunuco di Faraone, capitano delle milizie.
