1 Minden bölcsesség az Úrtól, Istentől van, és vele volt mindig, öröktől fogva.	1 All wisdom cometh from the Lord, and is with him for ever.
2 A tenger fövenyét, az esőcseppeket, az örökkévalóság napjait ki tudná megszámlálni? Az ég magasságát, a föld szélességét, az óceán mélységét ki tudná megmérni?	2 Who can number the sand of the sea, and the drops of rain, and the days of eternity?
3 Isten mindent megelőző bölcsességét ki tudná megvizsgálni?	3 Who can find out the height of heaven, and the breadth of the earth, and the deep, and wisdom?
4 Mindennél előbb teremtette a bölcsességet, s a bölcs értelem öröktől fogva van.	4 Wisdom hath been created before all things, and the understanding of prudence from everlasting.
5 A bölcsesség forrása Isten igéje a magasságban, útjai öröktől fogva való parancsok.	5 The word of God most high is the fountain of wisdom; and her ways are everlasting commandments.
6 Kinek tárták föl a bölcsesség gyökerét, és ki ismerte meg fortélyait?	6 To whom hath the root of wisdom been revealed? or who hath known her wise counsels?
7 Ki előtt tárult fel, ki előtt nyilvánult meg a bölcsesség tanulsága, és ki értette meg sokféle útját?	7 [Unto whom hath the knowledge of wisdom been made manifest? and who hath understood her great experience?]
8 Egy a fölséges, mindenható Teremtő, a hatalmas király, a szerfölött félelmetes: Isten, aki trónján ül és országol.	8 There is one wise and greatly to be feared, the Lord sitting upon his throne.
9 Ő teremtette azt a Szentlélek által, ő az, aki látta, számba vette s megmérte,	9 He created her, and saw her, and numbered her, and poured her out upon all his works.
10 és kiöntötte minden művére, minden testre az ő adománya szerint, és adta azoknak, akik szeretik őt.	10 She is with all flesh according to his gift, and he hath given her to them that love him.
11 Az Úr félelme tisztesség és dicsőség, vígság és örömkoszorú;	11 The fear of the Lord is honour, and glory, and gladness, and a crown of rejoicing.
12 az Úr félelme szívet derít, vígságot, örömet ad és hosszú életet.	12 The fear of the Lord maketh a merry heart, and giveth joy, and gladness, and a long life.
13 Aki féli az Urat, jól jár a végén, és halála napján áldásban részesül.	13 Whoso feareth the Lord, it shall go well with him at the last, and he shall find favour in the day of his death.
14 Isten szeretete tisztes bölcsesség;	14 To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and it was created with the faithful in the womb.
15 akiknek szeme előtt megjelenik, örvendeznek látásán és csodái megismerésén.	15 She hath built an everlasting foundation with men, and she shall continue with their seed.
16 A bölcsesség kezdete az Úr félelme. Ezt az Úr a hívőkkel együtt, anyjuk méhében teremti, a kiválasztott nőkkel együtt jár, s az igazakban és a hívőkben megnyilvánul.	16 To fear the Lord is fulness of wisdom, and filleth men with her fruits.
17 Az Úr félelme jámbor tudás,	17 She filleth all their house with things desirable, and the garners with her increase.
18 a jámborság pedig megőrzi a szívet és igazzá teszi, vígságot és örömöt szerez.	18 The fear of the Lord is a crown of wisdom, making peace and perfect health to flourish; both which are the gifts of God: and it enlargeth their rejoicing that love him.
19 Aki féli az Urat, annak jó sora lesz, és végső napjain áldásban részesül.	19 Wisdom raineth down skill and knowledge of understanding standing, and exalteth them to honour that hold her fast.
20 A bölcsesség teljessége Isten félelme; gyümölcseiből bőség fakad:	20 The root of wisdom is to fear the Lord, and the branches thereof are long life.
21 egész házát megtölti termésével, s a tárházakat kincseivel.	21 The fear of the Lord driveth away sins: and where it is present, it turneth away wrath.
22 A bölcsesség koronája az Úr félelme, amely teljes jólétet és üdvös gyömölcsöt terem.	22 A furious man cannot be justified; for the sway of his fury shall be his destruction.
23 Ő látta azt és megszámlálta, mindkettő Isten ajándéka.	23 A patient man will tear for a time, and afterward joy shall spring up unto him.
24 Tudást és okos belátást juttat a bölcsesség, és gyarapítja a hozzá ragaszkodók dicsőségét.	24 He will hide his words for a time, and the lips of many shall declare his wisdom.
25 A bölcsesség gyökere az Úr félelme, ágai pedig: maga a hosszú élet.	25 The parables of knowledge are in the treasures of wisdom: but godliness is an abomination to a sinner.
26 A bölcsesség tárházaiban bölcs értelem és jámbor tudás van; a bűnösök ellenben utálják a bölcsességet.	26 If thou desire wisdom, keep the commandments, and the Lord shall give her unto thee.
27 Az Úr félelme kiűzi a bűnt,	27 For the fear of the Lord is wisdom and instruction: and faith and meekness are his delight.
28 mert aki félelem nélkül van, meg nem igazulhat, mivel haragjának indulata bukását okozza.	28 Distrust not the fear of the Lord when thou art poor: and come not unto him with a double heart.
29 A békén tűrő szenved egy ideig, azután pedig vígságban lesz része;	29 Be not an hypocrite in the sight of men, and take good heed what thou speakest.
30 okossága egy ideig elrejti gondolatait, később pedig sokak ajka hirdeti okosságát. A bölcsesség tárházaiban tanulságos mondások vannak; a bűnös azonban utálja Isten tiszteletét. Fiam! Ha bölcsességre vágysz, tartsd meg a törvényt, és Isten megadja azt neked, mivel az igazi bölcsesség és műveltség az Úr félelme, s ami kedves előtte, az a hűség és az alázatosság. Ne légy engedetlen az Úr félelmével szemben, és ne járulj eléje megosztott szívvel! Ne légy kétszínű az emberek előtt, és ne kövess el botlást ajkaddal! Légy ezekben óvatos, hogy el ne essél, és szégyent ne hozz magadra, hogy az Úr le ne rántsa a leplet titkaidról, és le ne sújtson rád a gyülekezet közepette, mert álnokul közeledtél az Úrhoz, és szíved tele volt csellel és hamissággal.	30 Exalt not thyself, lest thou fall, and bring dishonour upon thy soul, and so God discover thy secrets, and cast thee down in the midst of the congregation, because thou camest not in truth to the fear of the Lord, but thy heart is full of deceit.
