Livre des Proverbes 16

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 A l'homme les projets du coeur, de Yahvé vient la réponse.	1 It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue.
2 Toutes les voies de l'homme sont pures à ses yeux, mais Yahvé pèse les esprits.	2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.
3 Recommande à Yahvé tes oeuvres, et tes projets se réaliseront.	3 Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed.
4 Yahvé fit toute chose en vue d'une fin, et même le méchant pour le jour du malheur.	4 The Lord hath made all things for himself: the wicked also for the evil day.
5 Abomination pour Yahvé: tout coeur altier; à coup sûr, il ne restera pas impuni.	5 Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice; and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.
6 Par la piété et la fidélité on expie la faute, par la crainte de Yahvé on s'écarte du mal.	6 By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
7 Que Yahvé se plaise à la conduite d'un homme, il lui réconcilie même ses ennemis.	7 When the ways of man shall please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.
8 Mieux vaut peu avec la justice que d'abondants revenus sans le bon droit.	8 Better is a little with justice, than great revenues with iniquity.
9 Le coeur de l'homme délibère sur sa voie, mais c'est Yahvé qui affermit ses pas.	9 The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps.
10 L'oracle est sur les lèvres du roi, dans un jugement, sa bouche est sans défaillance.	10 Divination is in the lips of the king, his mouth shall not err in judgment.
11 La balance et les plateaux justes sont à Yahvé, tous les poids du sac sont son oeuvre.	11 Weight and balance are judgments of the Lord: and his work all the weights of the bag.
12 Abomination pour les rois: commettre le mal, car sur la justice le trône est établi.	12 They that act wickedly are abominable to the king: for the throne is established by justice.
13 Les lèvres justes gagnent la faveur du roi, il aime qui parle avec droiture.	13 Just lips are the delight of kings: he that speaketh right things shall be loved.
14 La fureur du roi est messagère de mort, mais l'homme sage l'apaise.	14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death : and the wise man will pacify it.
15 Dans la lumière du visage royal est la vie; telle une pluie printanière est sa bienveillance.	15 In the cheerfulness of the king's countenance is life: and his clemency is like the latter rain.
16 Combien il vaut mieux acquérir la sagesse que l'or! L'acquisition de l'intelligence est préférableà l'argent.	16 Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.
17 Le chemin des gens droits, c'est d'éviter le mal; il garde sa vie, celui qui veille sur sesdémarches.	17 The path of the just departeth from evils: he that keepeth his soul keepeth his way.
18 L'arrogance précède la ruine et l'esprit altier la chute.	18 Pride goeth before destruction: and the spirit is lifted up before a fall.
19 Mieux vaut être humble avec les pauvres qu'avec les superbes partager le butin.	19 It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the proud.
20 Qui est attentif à la parole trouve le bonheur, qui se fie en Yahvé est bienheureux.	20 The learned in word shall find good things: and he that trusteth in the Lord is blessed.
21 Un coeur sage est proclamé intelligent, la douceur des lèvres augmente le savoir.	21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and he that is sweet in words shall attain to greater things.
22 Le bon sens est source de vie pour qui le possède, la folie des fous est leur châtiment.	22 Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it: the instruction of fools is foolishness.
23 Le coeur du sage rend sa bouche avisée et ses lèvres riches de savoir.	23 The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth: and shall add grace to his lips.
24 Les paroles aimables sont un rayon de miel: doux au palais, salutaire au corps.	24 Well ordered words are as a honeycomb: sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Tel chemin paraît droit à quelqu'un, mais en fin de compte, c'est le chemin de la mort.	25 There is a way that seemeth to a man right: and the ends thereof lead to death.
26 L'appétit du travailleur travaille pour lui, car sa bouche le presse.	26 The soul of him that laboureth, laboureth for himself, because his mouth hath obliged him to it.
27 L'homme de rien produit le malheur, c'est comme un feu brûlant sur ses lèvres.	27 The wicked man diggeth evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
28 L'homme fourbe sème la querelle, le diffamateur divise les intimes.	28 A perverse man stirreth up quarrels: and one full of words separateth princes.
29 L'homme violent séduit son prochain et le mène dans une voie qui n'est pas bonne.	29 An unjust man allureth his friend: and leadeth him into a way that is not good
30 Qui ferme les yeux pour méditer des fourberies, qui pince les lèvres a commis le mal.	30 He that with fixed eyes deviseth wicked things, biting his lips, bringeth: evil to pass.
31 C'est une couronne d'honneur que des cheveux blancs, sur les chemins de la justice on latrouve.	31 Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.
32 Mieux vaut un homme lent à la colère qu'un héros, un homme maître de soi qu'un preneur devilles.	32 The patient man is better than the valiant: and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh cities.
33 Dans le pli du vêtement on jette le sort, de Yahvé dépend le jugement.	33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord.
