Deuxième livre des Chroniques 24

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Joas avait sept ans à son avènement et il régna 40 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Cibya,elle était de Bersabée.	1 Joash was seven years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
2 Joas fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé tout le temps que vécut le prêtre Yehoyada,	2 Joash did what Yahweh regards as right throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.
3 qui lui avait fait épouser deux femmes dont il eut des fils et des filles.	3 Jehoiada found him two wives and he fathered several sons and daughters.
4 Après quoi Joas désira restaurer le Temple de Yahvé.	4 Later, Joash made up his mind to repair the Temple of Yahweh.
5 Il réunit les prêtres et les lévites et leur dit: "Partez dans les cités judéennes et recueillezauprès de tous les Israélites de l'argent pour réparer le Temple de votre Dieu, autant qu'il en faudra chaqueannée. Hâtez cette affaire." Mais les lévites ne se pressèrent pas.	5 Calling the priests and the Levites together, he said, 'Go out to the towns of Judah and collect moneyfrom al Israel for annual repairs to the Temple of Yahweh. Do this quickly.' But the Levites were in no hurry,
6 Alors le roi appela Yehoyada, le premier d'entre eux, et lui dit: "Pourquoi n'as-tu pas exigédes lévites qu'ils fassent rentrer de Juda et de Jérusalem le tribut de Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé et de l'assembléed'Israël, pour la Tente du Témoignage?	6 so the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said, 'Why have you not insisted on the Levites'bringing in the tax from Judah and Jerusalem for the Tent of Witness, as imposed by Moses servant of Yahwehand the community of Israel?' --
7 Athalie et ses fils qu'elle a pervertis ont endommagé le Temple de Dieu et ont même attribuéaux Baals tous les revenus sacrés du Temple de Yahvé."	7 Athaliah and her sons, whom she corrupted, despoiled the Temple of God and even assigned al thesacred revenues of the Temple of Yahweh to Baal.
8 Et le roi ordonna de faire un coffre, qu'ils mirent devant la porte du Temple de Yahvé.	8 So, at the king's order, a chest was made and put outside the gate of the Temple of Yahweh,
9 On proclama en Juda et à Jérusalem qu'il fallait apporter à Yahvé le tribut que Moïse, leserviteur de Dieu, avait imposé à Israël dans le désert.	9 and a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax, which Moses servant ofGod had imposed on Israel in the desert, was to be brought to Yahweh.
10 Tous les officiers et tout le peuple vinrent avec joie jeter leur dû dans le coffre jusqu'àpaiement complet.	10 Then al the officials and all the people gladly brought in their contributions, depositing them in thechest until the payment was complete.
11 Or, au moment d'apporter le coffre à l'administration royale qui était aux mains des lévites,ceux-ci virent qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent; le secrétaire royal vint avec le préposé du premier prêtre; ilssoulevèrent le coffre, l'emportèrent, puis le remirent en place. Ils firent ainsi chaque jour et recueillirentbeaucoup d'argent.	11 Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites for royal inspection and found to contain a large sumof money, the king's secretary and the chief priest's representative would come and empty the chest and thenhave it returned to its place. This was done day after day and a great deal of money was col ected.
12 Le roi et Yehoyada le donnèrent au maître d'oeuvre attaché au service du Temple de Yahvé.Les salariés, maçons et charpentiers, se mirent à restaurer le Temple de Yahvé; des forgerons et des bronzierstravaillèrent aussi à le réparer.	12 The king and Jehoiada handed it over to the foreman attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and thehired masons and carpenters set about repairing the Temple of Yahweh; and iron-workers and bronze-workerslaboured to repair the Temple of Yahweh.
13 Les maîtres d'oeuvre s'étant donc mis au travail, les réparations progressèrent entre leursmains, ils réédifièrent le Temple de Dieu dans ses dimensions propres et le consolidèrent.	13 The workmen got on with the task -- the repair work made good progress at their hands -- until theyhad restored the Temple of God to its former state and reconditioned it.
14 Quand ils eurent terminé, ils apportèrent au roi et à Yehoyada le reste de l'argent; on enfabriqua du mobilier pour le Temple de Yahvé, vases pour le service et les holocaustes, coupes et objets d'or etd'argent. On put ainsi offrir l'holocauste perpétuel dans le Temple de Yahvé tout le temps que vécut Yehoyada.	14 When they had finished, they brought the balance of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and withthis vessels were made for the Temple of Yahweh, vessels for the liturgy and for the burnt offerings, bowls andother gold and silver vessels. And the perpetual burnt offering was offered in the Temple of Yahweh throughoutJehoiada's lifetime.
15 Puis Yehoyada vieillit et mourut rassasié de jours. Il avait 130 ans à sa mort	15 But Jehoiada, growing old, had his fil of days and died. He died at the age of a hundred and thirtyyears,
16 et on l'ensevelit avec les rois dans la Cité de David, car il avait bien agi en Israël enversDieu et son Temple.	16 and was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had served Israel and God and hisTemple well.
17 Après la mort de Yehoyada, les officiers de Juda vinrent se prosterner devant le roi, et cettefois le roi les écouta.	17 After Jehoiada's death the officials of Judah came to pay court to the king, and the king listened totheir advice,
18 Les Judéens abandonnèrent le Temple de Yahvé, Dieu de leurs pères, pour rendre un culteaux pieux sacrés et aux idoles. A cause de cette faute, la colère de Dieu s'abattit sur Juda et sur Jérusalem.	18 and they abandoned the Temple of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, for the worship of sacred polesand idols. Judah and Jerusalem incurred wrath because of this guilt of theirs.
19 Des prophètes leur furent envoyés pour les ramener à Yahvé; mais ils témoignèrent contreeux sans qu'ils prêtent l'oreille.	19 He sent their prophets to lead them back to Yahweh; these put the case against them, but theywould not listen.
20 L'Esprit de Dieu revêtit Zacharie, le fils du prêtre Yehoyada, qui se tint debout devant lepeuple et lui dit: "Ainsi parle Dieu. Pourquoi transgressez-vous les commandements de Yahvé sans aboutir àrien? Parce que vous avez abandonné Yahvé, il vous abandonne."	20 The spirit of God then invested Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the peopleand said, 'God says this, "Why transgress Yahweh's commands to your certain ruin? For if you abandonYahweh, he will abandon you."
21 Ils se liguèrent alors contre lui et sur l'ordre du roi le lapidèrent sur le parvis du Temple deYahvé.	21 They then plotted against him and, at the king's order, stoned him in the court of the Temple ofYahweh.
22 Le roi Joas, oubliant la générosité que lui avait témoignée Yehoyada, père de Zacharie, tuaZacharie son fils, qui en mourant s'écria: "Yahvé verra et demandera compte!"	22 Thus King Joash, forgetful of the devotion which Jehoiada father of Zechariah had displayed on hisbehalf, murdered his son, who cried out as he died, 'Yahweh wil see this and avenge it!'
23 Or, au retour de l'année, l'armée araméenne partit en guerre contre Joas. Elle atteignit Judaet Jérusalem, extermina parmi la population tous les officiers et envoya toutes leurs dépouilles au roi de Damas.	23 At the turn of the year, the Aramaean army made war on Joash. When they reached Judah andJerusalem, they massacred al the nation's government officials and sent al their booty to the king of Damascus.
24 Certes, l'armée araméenne n'était venue qu'avec peu d'hommes, mais c'est une arméeconsidérable que Yahvé livra entre ses mains pour l'avoir abandonné, lui, le Dieu de leurs pères. Les Araméensfirent justice de Joas,	24 Although the invading Aramaean army was only a smal body of men, Yahweh al owed them todefeat a very large army because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors; thus they executedjudgement on Joash. After they had retired -- for they left him seriously wounded-
25 et quand ils le quittèrent, le laissant gravement malade, ses serviteurs se conjurèrent contrelui pour venger le fils du prêtre Yehoyada et le tuèrent sur son lit. Il mourut et on l'ensevelit dans la Cité deDavid, mais non pas dans les sépultures royales.	25 his own retainers plotted against him to avenge the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest andmurdered him in his bed. When he died he was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
26 Voici les conjurés: Zabad fils de Shiméat l'Ammonite, Yehozabad fils de Shimrit laMoabite.	26 These were the conspirators: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonite and Jehozabad son of Shimriththe Moabite.
27 Quant à ses fils, l'importance du tribut qui lui fut imposé et la restauration du Temple deDieu, on trouvera cela consigné dans le Midrash du livre des Rois. Amasias, son fils, régna à sa place.	27 As regards his sons, the heavy tribute imposed on him, and the restoration of the Temple of God,this is recorded in the Commentary on the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him.
