1 Now concerning the thing whereof you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.	1 Per venire poi a ciò di cui mi scriveste, è certo cosa buona per un uomo che non s’accosti a donna di sorta.
2 But for fear of fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.	2 Nondimeno, per prevenire pericoli di impudicizia, ogni uomo abbia la propria moglie, e ogni donna abbia il proprio marito.
3 Let the husband render the debt to his wife, and the wife also in like manner to the husband.	3 Il marito renda alla moglie il debito coniugale, e la moglie faccia altrettanto col marito.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband. And in like manner the husband also hath not power of his own body, but the wife.	4 La moglie non può liberamente disporre del proprio corpo, ma il marito; e parimente, neanche il marito può disparte del proprio corpo, ma la moglie.
5 Defraud not one another, except, perhaps, by consent, for a time, that you may give yourselves to prayer; and return together again, lest Satan tempt you for your incontinency.	5 Non rifiutatevi l’uno all’altra, se non di comune accordo, per un certo tempo, allo scopo di darvi alla preghiera. Poi riprendete come prima, affinché Satana non vi tenti per via della vostra incontinenza.
6 But I speak this by indulgence, not by commandment.	6 Dico questo a modo di concessione, non a modo di comando.
7 For I would that all men were even as myself: but every one hath his proper gift from God; one after this manner, and another after that.	7 Vorrei, anzi, che tutti gli uomini fossero come sono io; ma ciascuno riceve da Dio il suo dono particolare, l’uno in questo modo e l’altro in quell’altro.
8 But I say to the unmarried, and to the widows: It is good for them if they so continue, even as I.	8 Dico dunque ai celibi e alle vedove che è bene per essi rimanere come sono io;
9 But if they do not contain themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be burnt.	9 ma se non sanno serbarsi continenti, si sposino; poiché è meglio sposarsi che bruciare.
10 But to them that are married, not I but the Lord commandeth, that the wife depart not from her husband.	10 Quanto alle persone sposate, ordino, non io ma il Signore, che la moglie non si separi dal marito.
11 And if she depart, that she remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And let not the husband put away his wife.	11 Che se già si è separata, non riprenda marito ovvero si riconcilii col suo sposo. E che il marito non ripudi la moglie.
12 For to the rest I speak, not the Lord. If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she consent to dwell with him, let him not put her away.	12 Agli altri, poi, dico io, non il Signore: se un cristiano ha in moglie una pagana, e costei consente di abitare con lui, non la ripudi.
13 And if any woman hath a husband that believeth not, and he consent to dwell with her, let her not put away her husband.	13 E se una cristiana ha per marito un pagano, e questi consente di abitare con lei, non abbandoni il marito.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the believing wife; and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the believing husband: otherwise your children should be unclean; but now they are holy.	14 Poiché il marito non credente si trova santificato dalla moglie, e la moglie non credente si trova santificata dal marito credente; altrimenti i vostri figli sarebbero impuri, mentre ora son santi.
15 But if the unbeliever depart, let him depart. For a brother or sister is not under servitude in such cases. But God hath called us in peace.	15 Ma se il non credente vuol separarsi, si separi pure: il cristiano o la cristiana non sono legati come schiavi in tali circostanze: Iddio ci ha chiamati a essere nella pace.
16 For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband ? Or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife ?	16 Infatti, che ne sai tu, o donna, se salverai tuo marito? Ovvero, che ne sai tu, o uomo, se salverai tua moglie?
17 But as the Lord hath distributed to every one, as God hath called every one, so let him walk: and so in all churches I teach.	17 All’infuori di questo caso, ciascuno seguiti a vivere secondo lo stato che gli fu assegnato dal Signore, così come si trovava quando Dio lo chiamò. Appunto così io ordino in tutte le Chiese.
18 Is any man called, being circumcised ? let him not procure uncircumcision. Is any man called in uncircumcision ? let him not be circumcised.	18 Fu uno chiamato quando già era circonciso? Non lo nasconda. È stato uno chiamato da incirconciso? Non si sottoponga alla circoncisione.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing: but the observance of the commandments of God.	19 L’essere circonciso è nulla, e nulla è l’essere incirconciso; ma ciò che vale è l’osservanza dei comandamenti di Dio.
20 Let every man abide in the same calling in which he was called.	20 Ciascuno rimanga nello stato in cui si trovava quando fu chiamato.
21 Wast thou called, being a bondman ? care not for it; but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.	21 Fosti chiamato che eri schiavo? Non dartene pena; anzi, sebbene tu possa diventar libero, piuttosto approfittane.
22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a bondman, is the freeman of the Lord. Likewise he that is called, being free, is the bondman of Christ.	22 Poiché, chi da schiavo è stato chiamato nel Signore, è un liberto del Signore; similmente, chi è stato chiamato da libero, è lo schiavo di Cristo.
23 You are bought with a price; be not made the bondslaves of men.	23 Compràti come foste ad un caro prezzo non riducetevi schiavi degli uomini.
24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God.	24 Fratelli, ognuno resti davanti a Dio in quella condizione nella quale fu chiamato.
25 Now concerning virgins, I have no commandment of the Lord; but I give counsel, as having obtained mercy of the Lord, to be faithful.	25 Per quanto riguarda le vergini, non ho alcun comando del Signore, ma do un consiglio da uomo che, per essere stato oggetto della misericordia del Signore, è degno di fiducia.
26 I think therefore that this is good for the present necessity, that it is good for a man so to be.	26 Ritengo, dunque, che questo stato è conveniente a motivo delle angustie presenti; sì, è conveniente per l’uomo vivere così.
27 Art thou bound to a wife ? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife ? seek not a wife.	27 Sei tu legato da matrimonio ad una' donna? Non cercare di scioglierlo. Sei libero? Non cercare moglie.
28 But if thou take a wife, thou hast not sinned. And if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned: nevertheless, such shall have tribulation of the flesh. But I spare you.	28 Ma se anche prendi moglie, non pecchi; come se una ragazza si marita, non pecca. Però, costoro avranno delle tribolazioni nella carne, e io vorrei risparmiarvele.
29 This therefore I say, brethren; the time is short; it remaineth, that they also who have wives, be as if they had none;	29 Questo, o fratelli, io vorrei dirvi: il tempo è limitato. Resta quindi che persino quelli che hanno moglie, vivano come se non l’avessero;
30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;	30 e quelli che piangono, come se non piangessero; e quelli che sono lieti, come se lieti non fossero; e quelli che comprano, come se non possedessero;
31 And they that use this world, as if they used it not: for the fashion of this world passeth away.	31 e quelli che si giovano del mondo, come se non ne usufruissero pienamente; poiché passa la figura di questo mondo.
32 But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife, is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please God.	32 Sì, io vorrei che foste senza preoccupazioni. Chi non è sposato si dà pensiero per le cose del Signore, come cioè egli possa piacere al Signore.
33 But he that is with a wife, is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife: and he is divided.	33 Al contrario, chi è sposato si dà pensiero per je cose del mondo, come cioè possa piacere alla moglie, e si trova diviso.
34 And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinketh on the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinketh on the things of the world, how she may please her husband.	34 Allo stesso modo, la donna non sposata e la vergine è sollecita delle cose del Signore, per essere santa e di corpo e di spirito. Ma colei che è sposata, è premurosa delle cose del mondo: cerca il modo di piacere al marito.
35 And this I speak for your profit: not to cast a snare upon you; but for that which is decent, and which may give you power to attend upon the Lord, without impediment.	35 Questo lo dico per il vostro bene, non per tendervi un laccio. Miro a ciò che è nobile e all’ideale d’una assiduità col Signore senza distrazioni.
36 But if any man think that he seemeth dishonoured, with regard to his virgin, for that she is above the age, and it must so be: let him do what he will; he sinneth not, if she marry.	36 Se poi uno giudica di non agire correttamente riguardo alla sua figlia vergine, se oltrepassa il fiore dell’età, e crede che si debba fare così, faccia ciò che vuole; non pecca, si passi al matrimonio.
37 For he that hath determined being steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but having power of his own will; and hath judged this in his heart, to keep his virgin, doth well.	37 Ma chi è fermo in cuor suo, non avendo alcuna necessità, e ha facoltà di fare secondo la sua volontà e ha deciso in cuor suo di serbare vergine la figlia sua, fa bene.
38 Therefore, both he that giveth his virgin in marriage, doth well; and he that giveth her not, doth better.	38 Di conseguenza, colui che sposa la sua vergine, fa bene, e colui che non la sposa, farà meglio.
39 A woman is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband die, she is at liberty: let her marry to whom she will; only in the Lord.	39 La moglie rimane legata a suo marito fino a che egli vive. Se suo marito muore, è libera di contrarre matrimonio con chi vuole, ma nel Signore solamente.
40 But more blessed shall she be, if she so remain, according to my counsel; and I think that I also have the spirit of God.	40 Tuttavia essa è, a mio parere, più felice, se resta com'è. Credo d’avere anch’io lo spirito di Dio.
