DOUAI-RHEIMSSacra Bibbia Garofalo
If a man take a wife, and have her, and she find not favour in his eyes, for some uncleanness: he shall write a bill of divorce, and shall give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.1 «Se un uomo sposa una donna e agisce con lei da marito: se questa non incontra più favore ai suoi occhi perché egli ha trovato in lei qualcosa di indecente, egli le scriverà un atto di divorzio contro di lei, glielo consegnerà in mano e la manderà via dalla propria casa;
And when she is departed, and marrieth another husband,2 ed essa uscita dalla casa di lui, se ne è andata ed ha appartenuto a un altro uomo:
And he also hateth her, and hath given her a bill of divorce, and hath sent her out of his house or is dead:3 se questo secondo uomo la odierà, scriverà contro di lei un atto di divorzio, glielo consegnerà in mano e la manderà via dalla propria casa; oppure se morirà questo secondo uomo che l’aveva sposata:
The former husband cannot take her again to wife: because she is defiled, and is become abominable before the Lord: lest thou cause thy land to sin, which the Lord thy God shall give thee to possess.4 il primo marito che l’aveva mandata via, non potrà riprenderla in moglie, dopo che lei è stata così contaminata: ciò è un abominio al cospetto di Jahvè. Tu non devi far peccare la terra che Jahvè tuo Dio sta per assegnarti in eredità.
When a man hath lately taken a wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall any public business be enjoined him, but he shall be free at home without fault, that for one year he may rejoice with his wife.5 Se un uomo si è appena sposato, non andrà nell’esercito né gli si imporrà alcuna incombenza: per un anno resterà libero, dedito alla propria casa per allietare la moglie che ha preso.
Thou shalt not take the nether, nor the upper millstone to pledge: for he hath pledged his life to thee.6 Non si prenderà in pegno le due mole né la mola superiore: sarebbe un prendere in pegno la vita stessa.
If ally man be found soliciting his brother of the children of Israel, and selling him shall take a price, he shall be put to death, and thou shalt take away the evil from the midst of thee.7 Se un uomo rapisce uno dei suoi fratelli, dei figli di Israele, e agisce dispoticamente verso di lui e lo vende: tale ladro morirà e così sterminerai il male in mezzo a te.
Observe diligently that thou incur not the stroke of the leprosy, but thou shalt do whatsoever the priests of the Levitical race shall teach thee, according to what I have commanded them, and fulfil thou it carefully.8 In caso di lebbra guarda di osservare bene e adempiere interamente le direttive che vi impartiranno i sacerdoti leviti. Cercherete di agire secondo quanto io ho ordinato loro.
Remember what the Lord your God did to Mary, in the way when you came out of Egypt.9 Ricorda ciò che Jahvè tuo Dio ha fatto a Maria quando eravate sul cammino dell’uscita dall’Egitto.
When thou shalt demand of thy neighbour any thing that he oweth thee, thou shalt not go into his house to take away a pledge :10 Se fai un prestito qualsiasi al tuo prossimo, non entrerai nella sua casa per prenderti un pegno.
But then shalt stand without, and he shall bring out to thee what he hath.11 Te ne starai fuori e l’uomo al quale tu fai il prestito di porterà il pegno al di fuori.
But if he be poor, the pledge shall not lodge with thee that night,12 Ma se questi è un povero, tu non dormirai con il suo pegno:
But thou shalt restore it to him presently before the going down of the sun: that he may sleep in his own raiment and bless thee, and thou mayst have justice before the Lord thy God.13 al tramonto del sole devi restituirgli il pegno affinché dorma sul proprio mantello e ti benedica; sarà per te una giustizia al cospetto di Jahvè tuo Dio.
Thou shalt not refuse the hire of the needy, and the poor, whether he be thy brother, or a stranger that dwelleth with thee in the land, and is within thy gates:14 Non defrauderai la mercede del povero e dell’indigente, né tra i tuoi fratelli né tra i forestieri che si trovano nella tua terra, dentro le tue città.
But thou shalt pay him the price of his labour the same day, before the going down of the sun, because he is poor, and with it maintaineth his life: lest he cry against thee to the Lord, and it be reputed to thee for a sin.15 Ogni giorno gli darai la sua mercede: su di essa non tramonterà il sole, poiché egli è povero e a essa rivolge il desiderio. Così non griderà a Jahvè contro di te e in te non ci sarà alcun peccato.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children for the fathers, but every one shall die for his own sin.16 I padri non saranno messi a morte a causa dei figli né i figli saranno messi a morte a causa dei padri: ognuno sarà messo a morte per il proprio peccato.
Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger nor of the fatherless, neither shalt thou take away the widow's raiment for a pledge.17 Non violerai il diritto del forestiero e dell’orfano né prenderai in pegno la veste della vedova.
Remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the Lord thy God delivered thee from thence. Therefore I command thee to do this thing.18 Ricordati che sei stato schiavo in Egitto e Jahvè tuo Dio ti ha liberato: perciò ti prescrivo di compiere tale cosa.
When thou hast reaped the corn in thy field, and hast forgot and left a sheaf, thou shalt not return to take it away: but thou shalt suffer the stranger, and the fatherless and the widow to tabs it away: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the works of thy hands.19 Quando mieterai la messe del tuo campo, se nel campo dimenticherai un covone, non ritornare a prenderlo: sarà per il forestiero, per l’orfano e per la vedova, affinché Jahvè tuo Dio ti possa benedire in ogni lavoro delle tue mani.
If thou have gathered the fruit of thy olive trees, thou shalt not return to gather whatsoever remaineth on the trees: but shalt leave it for the stranger, for the fatherless, and the widow.20 Quando abbacchierai il tuo olivo, non ne ripasserai la punta e i rami: sarà per il forestiero, per l’orfano e per la vedova.
If thou make the vintage of thy vineyard, thou shalt not gather the clusters that remain, but they shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.21 Quando vendemmierai la tua vigna, non tornerai indietro a racimolare: sarà per il forestiero, per l’orfano e per la vedova.
Remember that thou also wast a bondman in Egypt, and therefore I command thee to do this thing.22 Ricorda che sei stato schiavo in Egitto: perciò ti prescrivo di compiere tale cosa».
