The burden of the word of the Lord upon Israel. Thus saith the Lord, who stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundations of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man in him :1 Oracolo. Parola di Jahvè su Israele; oracolo di Jahvè, che stese i cieli e fondò la terra e formò lo spirito dell’uomo entro di lui.
Behold I will make Jerusalem a lintel of surfeiting to all the people round about: and Juda also shall be in the siege against Jerusalem.2 Ecco io faccio di Gerusalemme una coppa che mette le vertigini a tutti i popoli all’intorno. E anche contro Giuda; sarà in angustia contro Gerusalemme.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone to all people: all that shall lift it up shall be rent and torn, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall be gathered together against her.3 E avverrà: in quel giorno farò di Gerusalemme una pietra da carico per tutti i popoli. Coloro che se la caricheranno, dovranno restare seriamente scalfiti. Ora contro di lei faranno lega tutte le genti della terra.
In that day, saith the Lord, I will strike every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open my eyes upon the house of Juda, and will strike every horse of the nations with blindness.4 In quel giorno — oracolo di Jahvè — colpirò di sbigottimento ogni cavallo e il sto cavaliere di frenesia; mentre sulla casa di Giuda terrò aperti i miei occhi, colpirò di cecità i cavalli dei popoli.
And the governors of Juda shall say in their heart: Let the inhabitants of Jerusalem be strengthened for me in the Lord of hosts, their God.5 I capi di Giuda diranno nel loro cuore: «Sia forza agli abitanti di Gerusalemme, in Jahvè degli eserciti loro Dio».
In that day I will make the governors of Juda like a furnace of fire amongst wood, and as a firebrand amongst hay: and they shall devour all the people round about, to the right hand, and to the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place in Jerusalem.6 In quel giorno Érò dei capi di Giuda come un braciere di fuoco tra fasci di legno e come una fiaccola accesa tra covoni: divoreranno a destra e a sinistra tutti i popoli all’intorno; Gerusalemme invece continuerà a restare sicura al suo posto.
And the Lord shall save the tabernacles of Juda, as in the beginning: that the house of David, and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, may not boast and magnify themselves against Juda.7 Jahvè soccorrerà prima le tende di Giuda, affinché la gloria della casa di David e la gloria degli abitanti di Gerusalemme non sia più grande di quella di Giuda.
In that day shall the Lord protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and he that hath offended among them in that day shall be as David: and the house of David, as that of God, as an angel of the Lord in their sight.8 In quel giorno Jahvè proteggerà gli abitanti di Gerusalemme: chi tra di loro sarà vacillante sarà come David, e la casa di David come Dio: come l’angelo di Jahvè davanti a loro.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.9 Ora avverrà: in quel giorno cercherò di distruggere tutte le genti, che saranno avanzate contro Gerusalemme.
And I will pour out upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace, and of prayers: and they shall look upon me, whom they have pierced: and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for an only son, and they shall grieve over him, as the manner is to grieve for the death of the firstborn.10 Sulla casa di David e sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme verserò uno spirito di pietà e di implorazione; guarderanno a colui che avranno trafitto e faranno il lamento per lui come nel lamento per un figlio unico, faranno amaro cordoglio per lui come nel cordoglio per un primogenito.
In that day there shall be a great lamentation in Jerusalem like the lamentation of Adadremmon in the plain of Mageddon.11 In quel giorno ci sarà un lamento grande in Gerusalemme come il lamento per Hadad-Rimmon nella valle di Meghiddo.
And the land shall mourn: families and families apart: the families of the house of David apart, and their women apart:12 Farà lamento il paese, famiglia per famiglia a parte: la famiglia della casa di David a parte e le loro donne a parte:
The families of the house of Nathan apart, and their women apart: the families of the house of Levi apart, and their women apart: the families of Semei apart, and their women apart.13 le famiglie della casa di Levi a parte e le loro donne a parte, le famiglie della casa di Natan a parte e le loro donne a parte, la famiglia di Shimei a parte e le loro donne a parte,
All the rest of the families, families and families apart, and their women apart.14 tutto il resto delle famiglie, famiglia per famiglia e le loro donne a parte.
