1 Come down, sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne for the daughter of the Chaldeans, for thou shalt no more be called delicate and tender.	1 Desce, senta-te no pó, virgem, filha de Babilónia; senta-te na terra, sem trono, filha dos Caldeus! Daqui em diante não serás chamada a mimosa e a voluptuosa.
2 Take a millstone and grind meal: uncover thy shame, strip thy shoulder, make bare thy legs, pass over the rivers.	2 Anda (como a escrava) com a mó, mói a farinha, tira o teu véu, arregaça os vestidos, descobre as pernas para passar os rios (a fim de ires para o cativeiro).
3 Thy nakedness shall be discovered, and thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and no man shall resist me.	3 A tua nudez seja descoberta, veja-se o teu opróbrio. Tomarei vingança, não pouparei ninguém.
4 Our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.	4 O nosso redentor (ó Israel) tem por nome Senhor dos exércitos, o Santo de Israel.
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called the lady of kingdoms.	5 Senta-te, ficando em silêncio, e entra nas trevas, ó filha dos Caldeus, porque não serás daqui era diante chamada a senhora dos reinos.
6 I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and have given them into thy bend: thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.	6 Estava irritado contra o meu povo, deixei profanar a minha herança, entreguei-ta nas tuas mãos. Tu não usaste de misericórdia, tornaste muito pesado o teu jugo (mesmo) sobre o velho.
7 And thou hast said: I shall be a lady for ever: thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, neither hast thou remembered thy latter end.	7 Disseste: Eu serei soberana para sempre! Não pensaste nestas coisas, nem te lembraste do teu fim.
8 And now hear these things, thou that art delicate, and dwellest confidently, that sayest in thy heart: I am, and there is none else besides me: I shall not sit as a widow, and I shall not know barrenness.	8 Agora, pois, ouve isto, ó voluptuosa, que te sentes segura, que dizes no teu coração: Eu, e mais ninguém senão eu! Nunca ficarei viúva (ou só), nem tão pouco me verei sem filhos.
9 These two things shall come upon thee suddenly in one day, barrenness and widowhood. All things are come upon thee, because of the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great hardness of thy enchanters.	9 Num só dia virão subitamente sobre ti estes dois males: a falta de filhos e a viuvez; estas desgraças virão sobre ti, apesar da multidão dos teus sortilégios e do poder dos teus encantamentos.
10 And thou best trusted in thy wickedness, and hast said: There is none that seeth me. Thy wisdom, and thy knowledge, this hath deceived thee. And thou best said in thy heart: I am, and besides me there is no other.	10 Tiveste confiança na tua malícia e disseste: Não há quem me veja! Esta tua sabedoria e esta tua ciência (vã) seduziram-te. Disseste dentro no teu coração: Eu, e mais ninguém senão eu.
11 Evil shall come upon thee, and then shalt not know the rising thereof: and calamity shall fall violently upon thee, which thou canst not keep off: misery shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.	11 Virá sobre ti o mal, que não poderás conjurar, lançar-se-á com ímpeto sobre ti uma calamidade, que não poderás evitar; virá sobre ti repentinamente uma miséria, que não terás previsto.
12 Stand now with thy enchanters, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, in which thou hast laboured from thy youth, if so be it may profit thee any thing, or if thou mayst become stronger.	12 Deixa-te estar com os teus encantamentos e com a multidão dos teus sortilégios, a que te entregaste desde a tua mocidade, para ver se acaso te aproveita isso alguma coisa, ou se podes inspirar terror.
13 Thou hast failed in the multitude or thy counsels: let now the astrologers stand and save thee, they that gazed at the stars, and counted the months, that from them they might tell the things that shall come to thee.	13 Tu te fatigaste à força de consultas (aos teus adivinhos). Apresentem-se agora e salvem-te esses que fazem a carta do céu, observam os astros, e te dão conhecimento, em cada neoménia, do que te deve acontecer.
14 Behold they are as stubble, fire hath burnt them, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the dames: there are no coals wherewith they may be warmed, nor fire, that they may sit thereat.	14 Eles tornaram-se como a palha, que o fogo devorará. Não livrarão a sua vida da chama: (as {1:brasas} dessa fogueira) não serão brasas para aquecer, nem um fogo para se estar sentado diante dele.
15 Such are all the things become to thee, in which thou best laboured: thy merchants from thy youth, every one hath erred in his own way, there is none that can save thee.	15 Eis de que te valerão aqueles pelos quais tanto te afadigaste, aqueles com que tiveste comércio desde a tua juventude. Fugirão cada um para o seu lado, e não haverá ninguém que te salve.
