Isaiah 47

1 Come down, sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne for the daughter of the Chaldeans, for thou shalt no more be called delicate and tender.	1 Scendi e siedi nella polvere, vergine figlia di Babilonia. Siedi in terra, senza trono, figlia dei Caldei; poiché non sarai più chiamata «tenera» e «voluttuosa».
2 Take a millstone and grind meal: uncover thy shame, strip thy shoulder, make bare thy legs, pass over the rivers.	2 Prendi la mola e macina la farina, rimuovi il velo, scopri lo strascico, denudati il femore, attraversa i fiumi.
3 Thy nakedness shall be discovered, and thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and no man shall resist me.	3 Si scopra la tua nudità, si mostri la tua vergogna. «Assumerò io la vendetta, non risparmierò nessuno»,
4 Our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.	4 dice il nostro redentore, Jahvè degli eserciti è il suo nome, il Santo di Israele.
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called the lady of kingdoms.	5 Sta’ zitta ed entra nelle tenebre, figlia dei Caldei; perché non sarai più chiamata «Signora di regni».
6 I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and have given them into thy bend: thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.	6 Mi adirai contro il mio popolo, profanai la mia eredità; li consegnai in tuo potere, tu non mostrasti loro pietà; perfino sugli anziani facesti pesare assai il tuo giogo.
7 And thou hast said: I shall be a lady for ever: thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, neither hast thou remembered thy latter end.	7 Tu pensavi: «In eterno io sarò sempre signora», così che non ti sei mai curata di ciò, non hai mai pensato quale sarebbe la tua fine.
8 And now hear these things, thou that art delicate, and dwellest confidently, that sayest in thy heart: I am, and there is none else besides me: I shall not sit as a widow, and I shall not know barrenness.	8 Ora, ascolta questo, o deliziosa, che te ne stai sicura, che pensavi nel tuo cuore: «Io e non altri; non rimarrò quale vedova né conoscerò sterilità!»
9 These two things shall come upon thee suddenly in one day, barrenness and widowhood. All things are come upon thee, because of the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great hardness of thy enchanters.	9 Ti sopraggiungeranno queste due cose, all’improvviso, in un sol giorno: sterilità e vedovanza verranno a te nella loro piena misura, proporzionate alla moltitudine delle tue magie, proporzionate ai tuoi molti e forti scongiuri.
10 And thou best trusted in thy wickedness, and hast said: There is none that seeth me. Thy wisdom, and thy knowledge, this hath deceived thee. And thou best said in thy heart: I am, and besides me there is no other.	10 Confidavi nella tua malizia, dicevi: «Nessuno mi vede!» La tua saggezza e il tuo sapere ti hanno sviato. Eppure tu pensavi nel tuo cuore: «Io e non altri!»
11 Evil shall come upon thee, and then shalt not know the rising thereof: and calamity shall fall violently upon thee, which thou canst not keep off: misery shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.	11 Ti sopraggiungerà la sciagura che non saprai scongiurare; piomberà su di te la distruzione che non potrai evitare. Ti sopraggiungerà all’istante la catastrofe che non avrai previsto.
12 Stand now with thy enchanters, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, in which thou hast laboured from thy youth, if so be it may profit thee any thing, or if thou mayst become stronger.	12 Stattene con i tuoi scongiuri e con la moltitudine delle tue magie, con i quali ti sei affaticata dalla tua giovinezza. Forse potrai giovartene; forse ti renderai terribile.
13 Thou hast failed in the multitude or thy counsels: let now the astrologers stand and save thee, they that gazed at the stars, and counted the months, that from them they might tell the things that shall come to thee.	13 Ti sei stancata con i tuoi molti consiglieri; essi potrebbero farsi avanti ora! Ti salvino coloro che misurano il cielo, che contemplano le stelle, i quali a ogni novilunio ti pronosticano che cosa sta per accaderti.
14 Behold they are as stubble, fire hath burnt them, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the dames: there are no coals wherewith they may be warmed, nor fire, that they may sit thereat.	14 Ecco, essi sono come stoppia, il fuoco li consuma; non salveranno se stessi dal potere della fiamma. Non si tratta di bracia per riscaldarsi, di fuoco dinanzi al quale sedersi.
15 Such are all the things become to thee, in which thou best laboured: thy merchants from thy youth, every one hath erred in his own way, there is none that can save thee.	15 Così diverranno per te i tuoi maghi, con i quali ti sei affaticata fin dalla giovinezza; ognuno se ne va per suo conto, non c’è nessuno che ti salvi.
