1 There is also another evil, which I have seen under the sun, and that frequent among men:	1 E un'altra rea cosa ho veduta sotto il sole; e questo avviene spesso (cioè) agli uomini:
2 A man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and honour, and his soul wanteth nothing of all that he desireth: yet God doth not give him power to eat thereof, but a stranger shall eat it up. This is vanity and a great misery.	2 che Iddio ha dato (spesso) a molti uomini ricchezze e possessioni e onori, e non gli manca nessuna cosa che il suo cuore voglia; ma non gli darà Iddio tanta grazia ch' egli ne possa mangiare e usare, anzi le goderà persona strana; e ancora questa sì è grande vanitade e miseria (e disventura).
3 If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, and attain to a great age, and his soul make no use of the goods of his substance, and he be without burial: of this man I pronounce, that the untimely born is better than he.	3 Or che pro' è a colui che ha generati cento figliuoli, e viva assai quanto volesse, s' egli non ha che mangiare in vita sua, e nella morte non ha sepoltura? Di questo do io sentenza, ch' egli fosse meglio ch' egli non fosse nato.
4 For he came in vain, and goeth to darkness, and his name shall be wholly forgotten.	4 E indarno nacque, e vanne alle tenebre, e sarà spenta la sua memoria.
5 He hath not seen the sun, nor known the distance of good and evil:	5 Elli non vide il sole, e non conobbe il vario dal male al bene.
6 Although he lived two thousand years, and hath not enjoyed good things: do not all make haste to one place?	6 E se egli fusse vivuto due migliaia di anni, elli non averebbe mai avuto bene; or non va ogni cosa ad uno luogo?
7 All the labour of man is for his mouth, but his soul shall not be filled.	7 Ogni fatica dell' uomo (curioso a contendere) terminerà nel suo parlare; e l'anima sua non si riempierà (di beni).
8 What hath the wise man more than the fool? and what the poor man, but to go thither, where there is life?	8 Or che ha più il savio uomo, che lo stolto e il povero, se non ch' elli (non muoiono e) vanno dov'è la vita?
9 Better it is to see what thou mayst desire, than to desire that which thou canst not know. But this also is vanity, and presumption of spirit.	9 Meglio è a vedere quello che tu desideri, che desiderare quello che tu non sai; e ancora questo è vanitade, e temeritade d'animo.
10 He that shall be, his name is already called: and it is known, that he is man, and cannot contend in judgment with him that is stronger than himself.	10 Già il nome di colui, il quale non è ancora nato, è stato conosciuto (da Dio) chi elli sia, il quale non puote contrastare contro più forte di sè (nè contendere) in giudicio.
11 There are many words that have much vanity in disputing.	11 Molte sono le parole, molte sono le vanitadi nelle disputazioni.
