Then Baldad the Suhite answered, and said:1 Bildad de Súaj tomó la palabra y dijo:
How long will you throw out words? understand first, and so let us speak.2 ¿Cuándo pondréis freno a las palabras? Reflexionad, y después hablaremos.
Why are we reputed as beasts, and counted vile before you?3 ¿Por qué hemos de ser tenidos como bestias, y a vuestros ojos somos impuros?
Thou that destroyest thy soul in thy fury, shall the earth be forsaken for thee, and shall rocks be removed out of their place?4 Oh tú, que te desgarras en tu cólera, ¿la tierra acaso quedará por ti desierta, se moverá la roca de su sitio?
Shall not the light of the wicked be extinguished, and the flame of his fire not shine?5 Sí, la luz del malvado ha de apagarse, ya no brillará su ardiente llama.
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him, shall be put out.6 La luz en su tienda se oscurece, de encima de él se apaga la candela.
The step of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down headlong.7 Se acortan sus pasos vigorosos, le pierde su propio consejo.
For he hath thrust his feet into a net, and walketh in its meshes.8 Porque sus pies le meten en la red, entre mallas camina.
The sole of his foot shall be held in a snare, and thirst shall burn against him.9 Por el talón le apresa un lazo, el cepo se cierra sobre él.
A gin is hidden for him in the earth, and his trap upon the path.10 Oculto en la tierra hay un nudo para él, una trampa le espera en el sendero.
Fears shall terrify him on every side, and shall entangle his feet.11 Por todas partes le estremecen terrores, y le persiguen paso a paso.
Let his strength be wasted with famine, and let hunger invade his ribs.12 El hambre es su cortejo, la desgracia se adhiere a su costado.
Let it devour the beauty of his skin, let the firstborn death consume his arms.13 Devora el mal su piel, el Primogénito de la Muerte roe sus miembros.
Let his confidence be rooted out of his tabernacle, and let destruction tread upon him like a king.14 Se le arranca del seguro de su tienda, se le lleva donde el Rey de los terrores.
Let the companions of him that is not, dwell in his tabernacle, let brimstone be sprinkled in his tent.15 Se ocupa su tienda, ya no suya, se esparce azufre en su morada.
Let his roots be dried up beneath, and his harvest destroyed above.16 Por abajo se secan sus raíces, por arriba se amustia su ramaje.
Let the memory of him perish from the earth and let not his name be renowned in the streets.17 Su recuerdo desaparece de la tierra, no le queda nombre en la comarca.
He shall drive him out of light into darkness, and shall remove him out of the world.18 Se le arroja de la luz a las tinieblas, del orbe se le expulsa.
His seed shall not subsist, nor his offspring among his people, nor any remnants in his country.19 Ni prole ni posteridad tiene en su pueblo, ningún superviviente en sus moradas.
They that come after him shall be astonished at his day, and horror shall fall upon them that went before.20 De su fin se estremece el Occidente, y el Oriente queda preso de terror.
These men are the tabernacles of the wicked, and this the place of him that knoweth not God.21 Tan sólo esto son las moradas del impío, tal el lugar del que a Dios desconoce.
