Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 5

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ora, quant’è a’ tempi, ed alle stagioni, fratelli, voi non avete bisogno che ve ne sia scritto.	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 Poichè voi stessi sapete molto bene che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 Perciocchè, quando diranno: Pace e sicurtà, allora di subito sopraggiungerà loro perdizione, come i dolori del parto alla donna gravida; e non iscamperanno punto.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete in tenebre, sì che quel giorno vi colga, a guisa di ladro.	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 Voi tutti siete figliuoli di luce, e figliuoli di giorno; noi non siam della notte, nè delle tenebre	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Perciò, non dormiamo, come gli altri; ma vegliamo, e siamo sobri.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Perciocchè coloro che dormono, dormono di notte, e coloro che s’inebbriano, s’inebbriano di notte.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Ma noi, essendo figliuoli del giorno, siamo sobri, vestiti dell’usbergo della fede, e della carità; e per elmo, della speranza della salute.	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 Poichè Iddio non ci ha posti ad ira, ma ad acquisto di salute, per lo Signor nostro Gesù Cristo;	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 il quale è morto per noi, acciocchè, o che vegliamo, o che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Perciò, consolatevi gli uni gli altri, ed edificate l’un l’altro, come ancora fate.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 ORA, fratelli, non vi preghiamo di riconoscer coloro che fra voi faticano, e che vi son preposti nel Signore, e che vi ammoniscono;	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 e d’averli in somma stima in carità, per l’opera loro. Vivete in pace fra voi.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 Ora, fratelli, noi vi esortiamo che ammoniate i disordinati, confortiate i pusillanimi, sostentiate i deboli, siate pazienti inverso tutti.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Guardate che niuno renda male per male ad alcuno; anzi procacciate sempre il bene, così gli uni inverso gli altri, come inverso tutti	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Siate sempre allegri.	16 Always be joyful;
17 Non restate mai d’orare.	17 pray constantly;
18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, perciocchè tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù inverso voi.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Non ispegnete lo Spirito.	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 Non isprezzate le profezie.	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 Provate ogni cosa, ritenete il bene.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Astenetevi da ogni apparenza di male	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Or l’Iddio della pace vi santifichi egli stesso tutti intieri; e sia conservato intiero il vostro spirito, e l’anima, e il corpo, senza biasimo, all’avvenimento del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Fedele è colui che vi chiama, il quale ancora lo farà.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con un santo bacio.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Io vi scongiuro per lo Signore, che questa epistola sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
