EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¿Cuál es entonces la superioridad del judío, y qué utilidad tiene la circuncisión?	1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?
2 Las ventajas con muchas desde todo punto de vista. Ante todo, Dios confió su Palabra a los judíos.	2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.
3 ¿Y que importa que algunos no hayan creído? ¿Acaso su incredulidad anulará la fidelidad de Dios?	3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?
4 De ninguna manera: Dios es veraz, y todo hombre, mentiroso, porque como dice la Escritura: "Serás reconocido como justo por lo que dices y triunfarás cuando seas juzgado".	4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.
5 Ahora bien, si nuestra injusticia hace resaltar la justicia de Dios, ¿qué conclusión sacaremos? ¿Dios será injusto –me expreso en términos humanos– al dar libre curso a su ira?	5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?
6 De ningún modo. De lo contrario, ¿cómo podría Dios juzgar al mundo?	6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.
7 Pero si con mi mentira, la verdad de Dios sale ganando, para gloria suya, ¿por qué todavía voy a ser condenado como pecador?	7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .
8 ¿O debemos hacer el mal para que resulte el bien, como algunos calumniadores nos hacen decir? ¡Estos sí merecen ser condenados!	8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.
9 En definitiva, entonces, ¿somos o no superiores a los paganos? De ninguna manera.	9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.
10 Porque acabamos de probar que todos están sometidos al pecado, tanto los judíos como los que no lo son. Así lo afirma la Escritura: "No hay ningún justo, ni siquiera uno;	10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,
11 no hay nadie que comprenda, nadie que busque a Dios.	11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.
12 Todos están extraviados, igualmente corrompidos; nadie practica el bien, ni siquiera uno solo.	12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.
13 Su garganta es un sepulcro abierto; engañan con su lengua, sus labios destilan veneno de víboras,	13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;
14 su boca está llena de maldición y amargura.	14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.
15 Sus pies son rápidos para derramar sangre,	15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,
16 en sus caminos hay ruina y miseria,	16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.
17 no conocen la senda de la paz.	17 They do not know the way of peace,
18 El temor de Dios no está ante sus ojos".	18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Ahora bien, nosotros sabemos que todo lo que dice la Ley es válido solamente para los que están bajo la Ley, a fin de que nadie pueda alegar inocencia y todo el mundo sea reconocido culpable delante de Dios.	19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.
20 Porque a los ojos de Dios, nadie será justificado por las obras de la Ley, ya que la Ley se limita a hacernos conocer el pecado.	20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.
21 Pero ahora, sin la Ley, se ha manifestado la justicia de Dios atestiguada por la Ley y los Profetas:	21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:
22 la justicia de Dios, por la fe en Jesucristo, para todos los que creen. Porque no hay ninguna distinción:	22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.
23 todos han pecado y están privados de la gloria de Dios,	23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,
24 pero son injustificados gratuitamente por su gracia, en virtud de la redención cumplida en Cristo Jesús.	24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.
25 El fue puesto por Dios como instrumento de propiciación por su propia sangre, gracias a la fe. De esa manera, Dios ha querido mostrar su justicia:	25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;
26 en el tiempo de la paciencia divina, pasando por alto los pecados cometidos anteriormente, y en el tiempo presente, siendo justo y justificado a los que creen en Jesús.	26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.
27 ¿Qué derecho hay entonces para gloriarse? Ninguna. Pero, ¿en virtud de qué ley se excluye ese derecho? ¿Por la ley de las obras? No, sino por la ley de la fe.	27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,
28 Porque nosotros estimamos que le hombre es justificado por la fe, sin las obras de la Ley.	28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.
29 ¿Acaso Dios es solamente el Dios de los judíos? ¿No lo es también de los paganos? Evidentemente que sí,	29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,
30 porque no hay más que un solo Dios, que justifica por medio de la fe tanto a los judíos circuncidados como a los paganos incircuncisos.	30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.
31 Entonces, ¿por medio de la fe, anulamos la Ley? ¡Ni pensarlo! Por el contrario, la confirmamos.	31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.
