1 À part cela, frères, nous avons une demande et une prière à vous faire dans le Christ Jésus. Nous vous avons enseigné comment vous devez vous conduire pour plaire à Dieu et déjà vous le faites, mais faites encore des progrès.	1 For the rest therefore, brethren, we pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us, how you ought to walk, and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more.
2 Vous savez quelles sont les traditions que nous vous avons données avec l’autorité du Seigneur Jésus.	2 For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus.
3 La volonté de Dieu est que vous deveniez saints: pas de liberté sexuelle.	3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that you should abstain from fornication;
4 Que chacun de vous sache faire usage de son corps avec sainteté et respect,	4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour:
5 au lieu de s’abandonner à ses passions comme les païens qui ne connaissent pas Dieu.	5 Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God:
6 Que personne, dans les affaires, ne fasse tort et n’abuse de son frère, car le Seigneur fera justice de tout cela, comme nous vous l’avons dit et redit.	6 And that no man overreach, nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before, and have testified.
7 Car Dieu ne nous a pas appelés aux choses basses mais à la sainteté,	7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification.
8 et si quelqu’un se moque de cet avis, il se moque, non d’un homme, mais de Dieu qui met en vous son Esprit Saint.	8 Therefore, he that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God, who also hath given his holy Spirit in us.
9 Vous n’avez pas besoin qu’on vous écrive longuement sur l’amour fraternel: Dieu lui-même vous a appris à vous aimer les uns les autres,	9 But as touching the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you: for yourselves have learned of God to love one another.
10 et vous le faites pour tous les frères dans toute la Macédoine. Et pourtant, frères, je vous demande de faire mieux encore.	10 For indeed you do it towards all the brethren in all Macedonia. But we entreat you, brethren, that you abound more:
11 Pensez que c’est une grande chose d’avoir de la stabilité, de compter sur soi-même et de travailler avec ses mains: nous vous l’avions déjà demandé.	11 And that you use your endeavour to be quiet, and that you do your own business, and work with your own hands, as we commanded you: and that you walk honestly towards them that are without; and that you want nothing of any man's.
12 De cette façon, les gens du dehors vous auront en bonne estime et vous-mêmes ne serez pas dans le besoin.	12 And we will not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that are asleep, that you be not sorrowful, even as others who have no hope.
13 Frères, nous ne voulons pas que vous restiez dans l’ignorance au sujet de ceux qui se sont endormis; vous ne pouvez pas vous affliger comme font les autres qui n’ont pas d’espérance.	13 For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again; even so them who have slept through Jesus, will God bring with him.
14 Ne croyons-nous pas que Jésus est mort et ressuscité? De même Dieu fera que Jésus prenne avec lui ceux qui se sont endormis.	14 For this we say unto you in the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them who have slept.
15 Nous vous redisons à ce sujet une parole du Seigneur: nous qui vivons et qui serons encore là pour la venue du Seigneur, nous n’aurons rien de plus que ceux qui déjà reposent.	15 For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven with commandment, and with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead who are in Christ, shall rise first.
16 Un ordre sera donné, et l’on entendra l’appel de l’archange et de la trompette céleste. Alors le Seigneur lui-même descendra du ciel, et d’abord ressusciteront ceux qui sont morts dans le Christ.	16 Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet Christ, into the air, and so shall we be always with the Lord.
17 Ensuite nous, qui serons encore en vie, nous serons enlevés avec eux dans les nuées pour rencontrer le Seigneur dans les hauteurs. Et alors nous serons définitivement avec le Seigneur.	17 Wherefore, comfort ye one another with these words.
18 Vous pourrez donc vous réconforter les uns les autres avec ces paroles.
