1 Un homme appelé Ananias vendit également une propriété en accord avec sa femme Saphire,	1 But a certain man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a field,
2 mais il mit de côté une partie de cet argent et sa femme le savait. Il apporta et déposa l’autre partie aux pieds des apôtres.	2 and he was deceitful about the price of the field, with his wife’s consent. And bringing only part of it, he placed it at the feet of the Apostles.
3 Pierre alors lui dit: "Qu’est-ce que Satan t’a mis dans la tête, Ananias? Tu as mis de côté une partie de l’argent et tu viens mentir à l’Esprit Saint!	3 But Peter said: “Ananias, why has Satan tempted your heart, so that you would lie to the Holy Spirit and be deceitful about the price of the land?
4 Tu pouvais garder ton champ, tu pouvais le vendre et l’argent t’appartenait; pourquoi as-tu monté cette histoire? Ce n’est pas à des hommes que tu as menti, mais à Dieu.”	4 Did it not belong to you while you retained it? And having sold it, was it not in your power? Why have you set this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!”
5 En entendant ces paroles, Ananias s’écroula, sans vie: la crainte s’empara de tous ceux qui l’apprirent.	5 Then Ananias, upon hearing these words, fell down and expired. And a great fear overwhelmed all who heard of it.
6 Les jeunes se mirent d’accord pour son convoi, ils enlevèrent son corps et le mirent en terre.	6 And the young men rose up and removed him; and carrying him out, they buried him.
7 Mais voici que trois heures plus tard sa femme arrive sans rien savoir de ce qui s’est passé.	7 Then about the space of three hours passed, and his wife entered, not knowing what had happened.
8 Pierre lui adresse la parole: "Dis-moi, c’est à ce prix-là que vous avez vendu le terrain?” Elle lui répond: "Mais oui, c’est exact.”	8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me, woman, if you sold the field for this amount?” And she said, “Yes, for that amount.”
9 Et Pierre lui dit: "Alors, vous vous êtes mis d’accord pour mentir à l’Esprit Saint? Entends les pas de ceux qui viennent d’enterrer ton mari: ils sont à la porte et ils vont t’emporter.”	9 And Peter said to her: “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out!”
10 Au même instant elle s’écroule à ses pieds et rend l’âme. Les jeunes gens étaient de retour; ils la trouvèrent morte et ils l’emportèrent pour l’enterrer à côté de son mari.	10 Immediately, she fell down before his feet and expired. Then the young men entered and found her dead. And they carried her out and buried her next to her husband.
11 À la suite de quoi une grande crainte s’empara de l’Église et de tous ceux qui furent mis au courant.	11 And a great fear came over the entire Church and over all who heard these things.
12 Beaucoup de miracles et de choses prodigieuses survenaient dans le peuple par les mains des apôtres. Ils se retrouvaient tous au Portique de Salomon	12 And through the hands of the Apostles many signs and wonders were accomplished among the people. And they all met with one accord at Solomon’s portico.
13 et personne d’autre n’osait se mêler à eux, mais le peuple les avait en grande estime.	13 And among the others, no one dared to join himself to them. But the people magnified them.
14 Mieux: une quantité d’hommes et de femmes croyaient dans le Seigneur et venaient augmenter leur nombre.	14 Now the multitude of men and women who believed in the Lord was ever increasing,
15 On allait jusqu’à amener les malades à la rue, on les déposait sur des lits ou des civières là où Pierre allait passer, pour que son ombre au moins fasse effet sur l’un d’eux.	15 so much so that they laid the infirm in the streets, placing them on beds and stretchers, so that, as Peter arrived, at least his shadow might fall upon any one of them, and they would be freed from their infirmities.
16 Une foule de gens accouraient des villes voisines de Jérusalem, amenant leurs malades et les personnes possédées par des esprits impurs: tous étaient guéris.	16 But a multitude also hurried to Jerusalem from the neighboring cities, carrying the sick and those troubled by unclean spirits, who were all healed.
17 Le grand prêtre intervint avec tous ceux de son groupe, le parti des Saducéens, car ils étaient décidés à en finir.	17 Then the high priest and all those who were with him, that is, the heretical sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with jealousy.
18 Ils firent arrêter les apôtres et on les mit dans la prison publique.	18 And they laid hands on the Apostles, and they placed them in the common prison.
19 Mais voici que durant la nuit un ange du Seigneur ouvrit les portes de la prison et les mit dehors en leur disant:	19 But in the night, an Angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison and led them out, saying,
20 "Allez, vous vous tiendrez dans le Temple et vous redirez au peuple tout ce message porteur de vie.”	20 “Go and stand in the temple, speaking to the people all these words of life.”
21 Suivant ce qu’on leur disait, ils entrèrent au Temple dès le matin et commencèrent à enseigner. Au même moment le grand prêtre et son entourage convoquaient le Sanhédrin avec tous les Anciens. C’est alors qu’on envoie un ordre à la prison pour les faire amener.	21 And when they had heard this, they entered the temple at first light, and they were teaching. Then the high priest, and those who were with him, approached, and they called together the council and all the elders of the sons of Israel. And they sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 Les gardes du Temple y vont et ne les trouvent pas; ils reviennent et disent:	22 But when the attendants had arrived, and, upon opening the prison, had not found them, they returned and reported to them,
23 "Nous avons trouvé la prison verrouillée, les gardes étaient à leur poste devant les portes, mais quand nous avons ouvert, il n’y avait personne à l’intérieur.”	23 saying: “We found the prison certainly locked up with all diligence, and the guards standing before the door. But upon opening it, we found no one within.”
24 En entendant ce rapport, le chef de la police du Temple et les chefs des prêtres se demandent ce qui a bien pu leur arriver.	24 Then, when the magistrate of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were uncertain about them, as to what should happen.
25 Quelqu’un arrive sur ces entrefaites et leur donne la nouvelle: "Les hommes que vous avez envoyés à la prison sont en ce moment dans le Temple, ils enseignent le peuple.”	25 But someone arrived and reported to them, “Behold, the men whom you placed in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”
26 Le chef de la police du Temple s’y rend alors avec les auxiliaires et il les amène, mais sans violence, car ils n’ont pas envie de se faire lapider par le peuple	26 Then the magistrate, with the attendants, went and brought them without force. For they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.
27 Donc on les amène, on les fait comparaître devant le Sanhédrin et le grand prêtre les interroge.	27 And when they had brought them, they stood them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,
28 Il leur dit: "Nous vous avons strictement défendu d’enseigner au nom de cet homme, mais à présent on n’entend plus que votre enseignement dans Jérusalem et vous nous rendez responsables de la mort de cet homme.”	28 and said: “We strongly order you not to teach in this name. For behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you wish to bring the blood of this man upon us.”
29 Alors Pierre leur dit, avec les apôtres: "C’est à Dieu qu’il faut obéir d’abord, non aux hommes.	29 But Peter and the Apostles responded by saying: “It is necessary to obey God, more so than men.
30 Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité ce Jésus que vous avez fait mourir, suspendu au bois.	30 The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, whom you put to death by hanging him on a tree.
31 Dieu l’a élevé, il l’a mis à sa droite comme un chef, un Sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et le pardon des péchés.	31 It is he whom God has exalted at his right hand as Ruler and Savior, so as to offer repentance and the remission of sins to Israel.
32 Nous sommes témoins de ces choses, et avec nous l’Esprit Saint que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent.”	32 And we are witnesses of these things, with the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to all who are obedient to him.”
33 Les autres écoutaient tout cela les dents serrées, ils auraient voulu les tuer.	33 When they had heard these things, they were deeply wounded, and they were planning to put them to death.
34 C’est alors que se leva, dans le Conseil, un Pharisien nommé Gamaliel, un docteur de la Loi fort estimé de tout le peuple. Il donna un ordre: "Faites sortir un instant ces hommes”.	34 But someone in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law honored by all the people, rose up and ordered the men to be put outside briefly.
35 Puis il dit à ceux du Conseil: "Israélites, n’agissez pas à la légère avec ces hommes.	35 And he said to them: “Men of Israel, you should be careful in your intentions about these men.
36 Rappelez-vous Theudas qui s’est lancé il y a un certain nombre d’années. Il se présentait comme un grand personnage et 400 hommes ont pris son parti. Puis il a été tué et tous ceux qui croyaient en lui se sont désorganisés, il n’en est rien resté.	36 For before these days, Theudas stepped forward, asserting himself to be someone, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined with him. But he was killed, and all who believed in him were scattered, and they were reduced to nothing.
37 Plus tard est venu Judas le Galiléen, à l’époque du recensement; il a entraîné tout un monde derrière lui. Puis il s’est fait tuer lui aussi, et tous ceux qui croyaient en lui se sont dispersés.	37 After this one, Judas the Galilean stepped forward, in the days of the enrollment, and he turned the people toward himself. But he also perished, and all of them, as many as had joined with him, were dispersed.
38 “Voilà pourquoi je vous dis: Laissez ces hommes, ne vous occupez plus d’eux.	38 And now therefore, I say to you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or work is of men, it will be broken.
39 Si leur projet, ou leur activité, vient des hommes, cela se défera. Mais si cela vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez pas le détruire: voudriez-vous vous retrouver luttant contre Dieu?” Ils se laissèrent convaincre	39 Yet truly, if it is of God, you will not be able to break it, and perhaps you might be found to have fought against God.” And they agreed with him.
40 et ils firent appeler les apôtres. Ils les firent bâtonner, puis ils leur défendirent de proclamer le Nom de Jésus et ils les remirent en liberté.	40 And calling in the Apostles, having beaten them, they warned them not to speak at all in the name of Jesus. And they dismissed them.
41 Eux sortirent tout joyeux de leur comparution devant le Sanhédrin, car ils avaient été jugés dignes de se faire maltraiter pour ce Nom.	41 And indeed, they went forth from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were considered worthy to suffer insult on behalf of the name of Jesus.
42 Et de tout le jour ils n’arrêtaient pas: dans le Temple et de maison en maison ils enseignaient et proclamaient Jésus, le Messie.	42 And every day, in the temple and among the houses, they did not cease to teach and to evangelize Christ Jesus.
