1 Quand un homme a renvoyé sa femme et que celle-ci, après l’avoir quitté, a été la femme d’un autre, peut-elle revenir vers lui? N’est-elle pas maintenant comme impure pour lui? Or toi tu t’es prostituée avec de nombreux amants; tu voudrais maintenant revenir vers moi? - parole de Yahvé.	1 “It is commonly said: ‘If a man has divorced his wife, and she departs from him, she will marry another man.’ So why would he return to her again? Is not that woman polluted and defiled? But you have fornicated yourself with many lovers. Even so, return to me, says the Lord, and I will accept you.
2 Lève les yeux vers les monts chauves et regarde: partout tu t’es prostituée. Comme l’Arabe dans le désert tu t’asseyais pour eux au bord de la route. Tu as profané le pays par tes prostitutions et tes méfaits.	2 Lift your eyes straight up, and see where you did not debase yourself. You were sitting in the roadways, waiting for them, like a robber in the wilderness. And you have polluted the land by your fornications and by your wickedness.
3 C’est pourquoi les pluies de l’automne ont été retenues et celles du printemps ont manqué, mais toi, effrontée comme une prostituée, tu as refusé de rougir.	3 For this reason, the rain showers were withheld, and there were no late season rains. You made your face like that of a promiscuous woman; you were not willing to blush.
4 Maintenant tu oses me dire: “Mon Père! C’est toi l’ami de ma jeunesse!	4 Therefore, at least from this moment on, call out to me: ‘You are my father, the guide of my virginity.’
5 Seras-tu toujours fâché contre moi, ta colère ne va donc pas finir?” Et pendant que tu dis cela, tu continues tes crimes!	5 Why should you be angry unceasingly? And will you continue in this to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil, for you were able to do so.”
6 Yahvé me dit ceci au temps du roi Josias: “Sais-tu bien ce que faisait la rebelle Israël? Elle courait se prostituer sur les hauteurs, sous les arbres verts.	6 And, in the days of king Josiah, the Lord said to me: “Have you not seen what the apostate Israel has done? She has brought herself up to every lofty mountain, and she has lain down under every leafy tree, and she has committed fornication there.
7 Je me disais: Après avoir fait tout cela, elle reviendra vers moi. Mais elle n’est pas revenue. Juda, sa sœur perfide, l’a vu;	7 And when she had done all these things, I said: ‘Return to me.’ But she did not return. And her deceitful sister Judah saw this:
8 elle a vu aussi comment je renvoyais la rebelle Israël à cause de tous ses adultères et comment je signais son acte de divorce. Mais Juda la perfide, sa sœur, n’a pas eu peur; elle aussi est allée se prostituer.	8 that because the apostate Israel had committed adultery, I had dismissed her and had given her a bill of divorce. Yet her deceitful sister Judah was not afraid. But she, too, went and committed fornication herself.
9 Elle a souillé le pays par sa prostitution scandaleuse; elle aussi a commis l’adultère avec le bois et la pierre.	9 And by the act of her fornication, she defiled the land. For she committed adultery with that which is stone and wood.
10 Et après l’avoir fait, Juda la perfide n’est pas revenue vers moi de tout son cœur, mais comme une hypocrite - parole de Yahvé.”	10 And after all these things, her deceitful sister Judah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but with lies, says the Lord.”
11 C’est pourquoi - c’est Yahvé qui parle, la rebelle Israël est meilleure que Juda, la perfide.	11 And the Lord said to me: “The apostate Israel has justified her own soul by comparing herself to the deceitful Judah.
12 Tu peux lancer cet appel vers les pays du nord: “Reviens, rebelle Israël - parole de Yahvé. Je ne vous montrerai plus un visage sévère, car je suis bienveillant - parole de Yahvé, et ma colère n’est pas sans fin.	12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and you shall say: Return, O apostate Israel, says the Lord. For I will not avert my face from you. For I am holy, says the Lord, and I will not be angry forever.
13 Seulement reconnais ta faute: tu t’es révoltée contre Yahvé ton Dieu et tu as couru de tous côtés après les étrangers, sous tout arbre vert. Et vous n’avez pas écouté ma voix - parole de Yahvé.”	13 So then, truly acknowledge your iniquity, that you have betrayed the Lord your God, and that you have spread your ways to strangers, under every leafy tree, and that you have not listened to my voice, says the Lord.
14 Revenez, fils infidèles, car je suis votre Maître - parole de Yahvé. Je vous prendrai, l’un d’une ville, deux d’une famille, et je vous ramènerai à Sion.	14 Convert, O rebellious sons, says the Lord. For I am your leader. And so, I will take you, one from a city, and two from a family, and I will lead you into Zion.
15 Je vous donnerai des bergers comme je les aime, qui vous feront paître avec intelligence et sagesse.	15 And I will give you pastors according to my own heart. And they will feed you with knowledge and doctrine.
16 En ces jours-là vous vous multiplierez, vous serez nombreux dans le pays - parole de Yahvé; alors on ne parlera plus de l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé. On l’aura oubliée, on ne s’en souviendra plus; on ne la regrettera pas et on ne cherchera pas à en faire une autre.	16 And when you have been multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will no longer say: ‘The Ark of the covenant of the Lord!’ And it will not enter into the heart, and they will not call it to mind. It will neither be visited, nor made use of, any longer.
17 C’est qu’en ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem: le Trône de Yahvé. Là se rassembleront toutes les nations; elles ne suivront plus constamment leurs penchants mauvais.	17 In that time, Jerusalem will be called: ‘The Throne of the Lord.’ And all the nations will be gathered to it, in the name of the Lord, in Jerusalem. And they will not walk after the depravity of their own most wicked heart.
18 En ces jours-là les gens de Juda feront la route avec ceux d’Israël; ils reviendront ensemble du pays du nord à la terre que j’ai donnée en héritage à vos pères.	18 In those days, the house of Judah will go to the house of Israel, and they will come from the land of the north, at the same time, to the land that I gave to your fathers.
19 Je m’étais dit: “Comment te mettrai-je au rang de mes enfants? Je te donnerai un pays agréable et le plus bel héritage au milieu des nations.” Je me disais: Tu m’appelleras: “Mon Père”, et vous ne vous éloignerez pas de moi.	19 But I said: How shall I place you among the sons, and distribute to you a desirable land, the preeminent inheritance of the host of the Gentiles? And I said: You will call me Father, and you will not cease to walk after me.
20 Mais comme une femme trahit son amant, vous aussi vous m’avez été infidèles, maison d’Israël - parole de Yahvé.	20 But, in the same way that a woman spurns her lover, so also has the house of Israel spurned me, says the Lord.”
21 Sur les collines déboisées on entend un bruit, ce sont les cris et les supplications des enfants d’Israël. Ils s’étaient égarés en chemin, ils avaient oublié Yahvé leur Dieu.	21 A voice has been heard in the highways, the weeping and wailing of the sons of Israel. For they have made their own ways sinful; they have forgotten the Lord their God.
22 Revenez, fils infidèles, je guérirai votre infidélité! “Nous voici, nous revenons vers toi, car tu es Yahvé notre Dieu.	22 “Convert, O rebellious sons! And I will heal your rebelliousness.” “Behold, we are returning to you. For you are the Lord our God!
23 C’est vrai, tout ce bruit sur les collines et les montagnes n’était que mensonges, le salut d’Israël est en Yahvé notre Dieu.	23 Truly, the hills were liars, with the multitude of the mountains. Truly, the salvation of Israel is in the Lord our God.
24 Depuis notre jeunesse, les idoles ont dévoré le fruit du travail de nos pères: leurs brebis et leurs bœufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.	24 Confusion has devoured the labor of our fathers, from our youth, with their flocks and their herds, with their sons and their daughters.
25 Notre honte colle à notre peau et nous sommes couverts de confusion! Nous et nos pères, depuis notre jeunesse et jusqu’à présent, nous avons péché contre Yahvé notre Dieu; nous n’avons pas écouté la voix de Yahvé notre Dieu.”	25 We will sleep in our confusion, and our disgrace will cover us. For we have sinned against the Lord our God: we and our fathers, from our youth, even to this day. And we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God.”
