1 La sapienza è migliore che le forze; e l' uomo prudente si è migliore che il forte.	1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;
2 Udite dunque, o re, e intendete; giùdici dei confini della terra, imprendete.	2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!
3 Date le orecchie, voi che contenete le moltitudini, e piacete a voi nelle turbe delle genti.	3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.
4 Egli è data da Dio potestade a voi, (e la possanza) e la virtude v'è data dallo Altissimo, il quale v' addomanderae delle opere vostre, e ricercherae li vostri pensieri.	4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,
5 Però che, conciosia cosa che voi foste gubernatori del suo regno, giudicaste non dirittamente, e non osservaste la legge della giustizia, e non andaste secondo la volontà di Dio.	5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;
6 E Iddio apparve tosto e ispaventevolmente a voi; però che il durissimo suo giudicio si farae in coloro i quali signoreggiano li altri.	6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.
7 Al piccolo si concede la misericordia; li potenti potentemente fieno tormentati.	7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;
8 Iddio (che è Signore di tutti) non ne trarrae (per maggioranza) la persona, di qualunque stato sia, e non temerae di che grandezza si sia; però ch' egli fece il piccolo e il grande, e hae uguale cura di tutti.	8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.
9 Il più forte tormento soprastae alli più forti.	9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;
10 A voi dunque, o re, sono queste mie parole, acciò che voi appariate sapienza, e non travalichiate.	10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.
11 Però che coloro che osservano la giustizia, saranno giudicati giustamente; e coloro che averanno imparato le cose giuste, troveranno (quando fieno domandati da Dio dello re loro) che rispondere.	11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.
12 Desiderate dunque li miei sermoni e amateli, e averete scienza.	12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.
13 La sapienza è chiara, ed è quella che mai non si guasta; e leggermente si vede da coloro che l'amano, e fia trovata da coloro che la cercono.	13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.
14 Ed ella prima piglia coloro che lei desiderano, per mostrarsi prima a loro.	14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.
15 Chi veggiò il die, non s' affaticherae invano in servigio di lei; però ch' elli la troverae sedere alle sue porte.	15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.
16 Pensate di lei; il senno è venuto al fine suo; e chi veghiarae per lei, tosto fia securo.	16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.
17 Però che ella, cercandone, accerchia coloro che di lei sono degni; e nelle (sue) vie allegramente si mostra loro, e fassi loro incontro in ogni providenza.	17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,
18 Lo principio di quella è lo vero desiderio di lei.	18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,
19 La diligenza dunque della disciplina è la dilezione; e la dilezione è la osservanza della legge sua; la osservanza della legge è compiuta incorruzione.	19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;
20 La incorruzione fa l' uomo essere prossimato a Dio.	20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.
21 Il desiderio della sapienza producerae l' uomo al perpetuale regno.	21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.
22 Se dunque voi, o re del popolo, vi dilettate nelle sedie e nelle verghe regali, amate la sapienza, sì che voi regniate in perpetuo.	22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.
23 Amate il lume della sapienza, voi che siete sopra i popoli.	23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.
24 E io riconterò, che cosa è la sapienza, in che modo ella è fatta, e non nasconderoe da voi li sacramenti di Dio; ma io cercheroe dal principio della nativitade (della sapienza), e metteroe in luce la sua scienza; non taceroe la veritade.	24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.
25 E non anderoe per via colla invidia attristante; però che (lo invidioso e) cotale uomo non sarà partecipe di sapienza.	25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.
26 La moltitudine della sapienza sì è sanitade dell' uomo; e il savio re sì è fermamento del popolo.
27 Adunque togliete disciplina per le mie parole, e gioveravvi.
