Siracide 18

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Colui che vive in eterno creò tutte insieme le cose. Dio solo sarà riconosciuto giusto: Egli è re invincibile in eterno.	1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.
2 Chi potrà descrivere le opere di lui?	2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?
3 Chi potrà investigare le sue maraviglie?	3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?
4 La potenza della sua grandezza chi la potrà spiegare? Chi potrà giungere a raccontare le sue misericordie?	4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
5 Ne togliere nè aggiungere si può alle maraviglie di Dio, nè arrivare a scoprirle.	5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.
6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito, sarà sempre da principio, e quando si fermerà, resterà stordito.	6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?
7 Che cos'è l'uomo e a che può servire? A che si riduce il suo bene e il suo male?	7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:
8 Il numero dei giorni dell'uomo è molto se arriva a cento anni. Come una goccia d'acqua nell'oceano, come un granello d'arena, cosi quei pochi anni da vanti al giorno dell'eternità.	8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.
9 Per questo il Signore è paziente cogli uomini, ed effonde sopra di loro la sua misericordia.	9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.
10 Egli vede bene che malvagia è la presunzione del loro cuore, che deplorevole è la loro perdizione.	10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.
11 Per questo con essi fa giungere al colmo la sua misericordia, e mostra loro la via dell'equità.	11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,
12 La pietà dell'uomo è verso il suo prossimo, ma la misericordia di Dio si estende ad ogni vivente.	12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;
13 Essendo Egli misericordioso, ammaestra e corregge (gli uomini) come un pastore il proprio gregge.	13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.
14 Egli ha pietà di chi riceve l'ammonimento della misericordia, e di chi è sollecito nei suoi precetti.	14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.
15 Figliolo, non aggiungere ai benefìzi i rimproveri, e al dono non aggiungere l'amarezza di cattive parole.	15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.
16 La rugiada non tempera forse il caldo? Così la buona parola val più del dono.	16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.
17 Non lo vedi che la parola vai più del dono? Ma il giusto ha l'uno e l'altra.	17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.
18 Lo stolto farà degli sgarbati rimproveri, e il dono dell'indiscreto fa strugger gli occhi.	18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.
19 Prima del giudizio assicurati della tua giustizia e prima di parlare impara.	19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.
20 Avanti la malattia prendi il rimedio, e prima del giudizio esamina te stesso, e troverai misericordia dinanzi a Dio.	20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.
21 Prima di cader malato, umiliati, e nel tempo dell'infermità fa vedere la tua (buona) condotta.	21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.
22 Nessuna cosa t'impedisca di sempre pregare, non ti peritare di conservarti giusto fino alla morte, perchè la ricompensa di Dio è eterna.	22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.
23 Avanti l'orazione prepara l'anima tua, e non voler essere come uno che tenta Dio.	23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.
24 Pensa all'ira del giorno finale e al tempo della retribuzione, quando Dio volgerà altrove la faccia.	24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.
25 Ricordati della povertà nel tempo dell'abbondanza e delle strettezze della miseria nel tempo di ricchezza.	25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.
26 Dalla mattina alla sera si cambierà il tempo, e dmanzi a Dio tutto passa veloce.	26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.
27 L'uomo saggio va cauto in ogni cosa, e nei giorni del peccato si guarderà dalla negligenza.	27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.
28 Ogni accorto riconosce la sapienza e renderà onori a chi l'ha trovata.	28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;
29 Gli uomini di buon senso nelle parole operan pure con saggezza; avendo compresa la verità e la giustizia, fan piovere proverbi e sentenze.	29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.
30 Non andar dietro alle tue voglie, e raffrena i tuoi appetiti.	30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.
31 Se accordi alla tua anima ciò che desidera, essa ti renderà la gioia dei tuoi nemici.	31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.
32 Non aver piacere dei tumulti, anche piccoli, perchè in essi i conflitti son continui.	32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;
33 Guardati dall'impoverire prendendo ad usura per la gara (dei banchetti) quando la tua borsa è vuota, perchè por teresti invidia alla tua vita.	33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.
