1 Poi Eliu, continuando a parlare, disse:	1 Elihu proceeded further and said:
2 « Sopportami un poco, e t'istruirò, perchè ho ancora da parlare in difesa di Dio.	2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.
3 Prenderò la mia scienza dal suo principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto.	3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.
4 Per certo i miei discorsi sono senza menzogna, e la mia perfetta scienza ti sarà provata.	4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.
5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, perchè egli stesso è potente,	5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.
6 ma non salva gli empi, e fa giustizia ai poveri.	6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,
7 Egli non toglie i suoi occhi dal giusto. Egli colloca per sempre i re sul trono ed essi sono esaltati	7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.
8 e se sono stretti in camene e avvinti dai legami della miseria,	8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,
9 iddio farà loro veder le loro opere, le loro sceleratezze, le loro violenze,	9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.
10 aprirà pure loro le orecchie per correggerli, e parlerà loro perchè si ritraggano dall'iniquità.	10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.
11 Se ascolteranno, e obbediranno, finiranno i loro giorni nella felicità, e i loro anni nella gloria;	11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.
12 ma se non ascolteranno, passeran per la spada e periranno nella loro stoltezza.	12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.
13 I simulatori e i doppi di cuore provocano l'ira di Dio; nè implorano Dio quando sono in catene.	13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;
14 La loro anima perirà nella tempesta e la loro vita perirà tra gli effeminati.	14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.
15 Dio libererà il povero dalle strettezze, e gli aprirà l'orecchio nella tribolazione.	15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.
16 Egli adunque ti salverà dall'abisso stretto e senza fondo, e ti metterà al laigo, e ti riposerai alla tua mensa, carica di grasse vivande.
17 La tua causa è stata giudicata come quella d'un empio: riceverai secondo la causa e la condanna.
18 Dunque non ti far prendere dall'ira in modo da opprimere qualcuno, e non andar fuori di strada per la gran quantità dei doni.
19 Umilia la tua grandezza, senza esservi costretto dalla sferza, ciò che è forte e potente.
20 Non protrarre la notte, affinchè nel luo go di essi salgano i popoli.	20
21 Guardati dall'andar verso l'iniquità, perchè cominciasti a seguirla dopo la miseria.	21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.
22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza, e nessun dei legislatori è simile a lui.	22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?
23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? Chi può dirgli: Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?	23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?
24 Ricordati che tu non comprendi la sua opera, dagli uomini celebrata coi canti.	24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.
25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.	25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.
26 Ecco, Dio è grande e sorpassa ogni nostra scienza, il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.	26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.
27 Egli distacca le stille della pioggia e versa gli acquazzoni a torrenti,	27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,
28 che erompono dalle nubi, le quali coprono tutto in alto.	28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.
29 Egli distende quando vuole le nuvole, come la sua tenda,
30 e di lassù manda folgori e lampi, e copre gli ultimi lidi del mare.	30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.
31 Con questi mezzi egli giudica i popoli e dà nutrimento a gran numero di morteli.	31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.
32 nelle sue mani nasconde la luce e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.	32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.
33 Egli fa capire a chi lo ama che essa è in suo dominio e che ad essa può salire ».	33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.
