Livro dos Provérbios 31

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Palavras de Lamuel, rei de Massa, que lhe foram ensinadas por sua mãe:	1 The sayings of Lemuel king of Massa, taught him by his mother:
2 Meu filho, filho de minhas entranhas, que te direi eu? Não, ó filho de meus votos!	2 What, my son! What, son of my womb! What, son of my vows!
3 Não dês teu vigor às mulheres e teu caminho àquelas que perdem os reis.	3 Do not expend your energy on women nor your wealth on those who ruin kings.
4 Não é próprio dos reis, Lamuel, não convém aos reis beber vinho, nem aos príncipes dar-se aos licores,	4 Not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings the drinking of wine, not for princes the love of liquor,
5 para que, bebendo, eles não esqueçam a lei e não desconheçam o direito de todos os infelizes.	5 for fear that in liquor they forget what they have decreed and pervert the course of justice against allthe poor.
6 Dai a bebida forte àquele que desfalece e o vinho àquele que tem amargura no coração:	6 Procure strong drink for someone about to die, wine for him whose heart is heavy:
7 que ele beba e esquecerá sua miséria e já não se lembrará de suas mágoas.	7 let him drink and forget his misfortune, and remember his misery no more.
8 Abre tua boca a favor do mundo, pela causa de todos os abandonados;	8 Make your views heard, on behalf of the dumb, on behalf of al the unwanted;
9 abre tua boca para pronunciar sentenças justas, faze justiça ao aflito e ao indigente.	9 make your views heard, pronounce an upright verdict, defend the cause of the poor and the wretched.
10 Uma mulher virtuosa, quem pode encontrá-la? Superior ao das pérolas é o seu valor.	10 The truly capable woman -- who can find her? She is far beyond the price of pearls.
11 Confia nela o coração de seu marido, e jamais lhe faltará coisa alguma.	11 Her husband's heart has confidence in her, from her he wil derive no little profit.
12 Ela lhe proporciona o bem, nunca o mal, em todos os dias de sua vida.	12 Advantage and not hurt she brings him al the days of her life.
13 Ela procura lã e linho e trabalha com mão alegre.	13 She selects wool and flax, she does her work with eager hands.
14 Semelhante ao navio do mercador, manda vir seus víveres de longe.	14 She is like those merchant vessels, bringing her food from far away.
15 Levanta-se, ainda de noite, distribui a comida à sua casa e a tarefa às suas servas.	15 She gets up while it is stil dark giving her household their food, giving orders to her serving girls.
16 Ela encontra uma terra, adquire-a. Planta uma vinha com o ganho de suas mãos.	16 She sets her mind on a field, then she buys it; with what her hands have earned she plants avineyard.
17 Cinge os rins de fortaleza, revigora seus braços.	17 She puts her back into her work and shows how strong her arms can be.
18 Alegra-se com o seu lucro, e sua lâmpada não se apaga durante a noite.	18 She knows that her affairs are going wel ; her lamp does not go out at night.
19 Põe a mão na roca, seus dedos manejam o fuso.	19 She sets her hands to the distaff, her fingers grasp the spindle.
20 Estende os braços ao infeliz e abre a mão ao indigente.	20 She holds out her hands to the poor, she opens her arms to the needy.
21 Ela não teme a neve em sua casa, porque toda a sua família tem vestes duplas.	21 Snow may come, she has no fears for her household, with al her servants warmly clothed.
22 Faz para si cobertas: suas vestes são de linho fino e de púrpura.	22 She makes her own quilts, she is dressed in fine linen and purple.
23 Seu marido é considerado nas portas da cidade, quando se senta com os anciãos da terra.	23 Her husband is respected at the city gates, taking his seat among the elders of the land.
24 Tece linha e o vende, fornece cintos ao mercador.	24 She weaves materials and sel s them, she supplies the merchant with sashes.
25 Fortaleza e graça lhe servem de ornamentos; ri-se do dia de amanhã.	25 She is clothed in strength and dignity, she can laugh at the day to come.
26 Abre a boca com sabedoria, amáveis instruções surgem de sua língua.	26 When she opens her mouth, she does so wisely; on her tongue is kindly instruction.
27 Vigia o andamento de sua casa e não come o pão da ociosidade.	27 She keeps good watch on the conduct of her household, no bread of idleness for her.
28 Seus filhos se levantam para proclamá-la bem-aventurada e seu marido para elogiá-la.	28 Her children stand up and proclaim her blessed, her husband, too, sings her praises:
29 Muitas mulheres demonstram vigor, mas tu excedes a todas.	29 'Many women have done admirable things, but you surpass them all!'
30 A graça é falaz e a beleza é vã; a mulher inteligente é a que se deve louvar.	30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty; the woman who fears Yahweh is the one to praise.
31 Dai-lhe o fruto de suas mãos e que suas obras a louvem nas portas da cidade.	31 Give her a share in what her hands have worked for, and let her works tel her praises at the citygates.
