1 Onora il medico per le sue prestazioni, perché il Signore ha creato anche lui;	1 Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you, and God it was who established his profession.
2 l'arte di guarire viene dall'Altissimo, e chi guarisce riceve doni pure dal re.	2 From God the doctor has his wisdom, and the king provides for his sustenance.
3 La sua scienza fa camminare il medico a testa alta, egli riscuote ammirazione davanti ai grandi.	3 His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives him access to those in authority.
4 Il Signore ha creato le medicine dalla terra, l'uomo di senno non le detesta.	4 God makes the earth yield healing herbs which the prudent man should not neglect;
5 L'acqua non si addolcì con il legno, che rivelava così una sua peculiarità?	5 Was not the water sweetened by a twig that men might learn his power?
6 Il Signore ha dato la scienza agli uomini, perché fosse glorificato con questi poteri meravigliosi.	6 He endows men with the knowledge to glory in his mighty works,
7 Con essi il medico guarisce e vince la sofferenza e il farmacista fa la sua mistura.	7 Through which the doctor eases pain and the druggist prepares his medicines;

9 Figlio, nella tua malattia non disprezzare ciò, ma prega il Signore ed egli ti guarirà.	9 My son, when you are ill, delay not, but pray to God, who will heal you:
10 Ripudia l'errore, correggi l'opera delle tue mani, purifica il cuore da ogni peccato.	10 Flee wickedness; let your hands be just, cleanse your heart of every sin;
11 Offri soave odore e un memoriale di fior di farina, offri pingui sacrifici secondo le tue possibilità.	11 Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition, a rich offering according to your means.
12 E ricorri pure al medico; il Signore ha creato anche lui, non ti abbandoni, perché è necessario.	12 Then give the doctor his place lest he leave; for you need him too.
13 C'è il momento in cui la guarigione è nelle loro mani.	13 There are times that give him an advantage,
14 Anch'essi pregano il Signore perché conceda loro di dare conforto e guarigione ai loro pazienti.	14 and he too beseeches God That his diagnosis may be correct and his treatment bring about a cure.
15 Chi pecca davanti al suo Creatore cada nelle mani del medico.	15 He who is a sinner toward his Maker will be defiant toward the doctor.
16 Figlio, versa lacrime sul morto e con sincero dolore intona il lamento; avvolgi il cadavere come è stabilito e non trascurare la sua sepoltura.	16 My son, shed tears for one who is dead with wailing and bitter lament; As is only proper, prepare the body, absent not yourself from his burial:
17 Sii amaro nel gemito e caldo nel lamento, celebra il lutto secondo la sua dignità, un giorno o due per evitare le maldicenze, ma poi consólati dopo il dolore.	17 Weeping bitterly, mourning fully, pay your tribute of sorrow, as he deserves,
18 Dal dolore infatti esce la morte, e il dolore del cuore fiacca il vigore.	18 One or two days, to prevent gossip; then compose yourself after your grief,

21 Ben sapendo che non c'è ritorno, il tuo dolore a lui non giova e a te nuoce.	21 Recall him not, for there is no hope of his return; it will not help him, but will do you harm.
22 Ricòrdati che la sua sorte sarà pure tua, ieri a me domani a te.	22 Remember that his fate will also be yours; for him it was yesterday, for you today.
23 Nel riposo del morto fa' riposare la sua memoria, consólati di lui, per la dipartita del suo spirito.	23 With the departed dead, let memory fade; rally your courage, once the soul has left.
24 La sapienza dello scriba viene dal tempo speso nella riflessione, si diventa sapienti trascurando l'attività pratica.	24 The scribe's profession increases his wisdom; whoever is free from toil can become a wise man.
25 Come penserà alla sapienza chi tiene l'aratro? La sua preoccupazione è quella di un buon pungolo, conduce i buoi e pensa al loro lavoro, i suoi discorsi riguardano i figli delle vacche.	25 How can he become learned who guides the plow, who thrills in wielding the goad like a lance, Who guides the ox and urges on the bullock, and whose every concern is for cattle?
26 Applica il suo cuore a far solchi, rimane insonne per il fieno delle giovenche.	26 His care is for plowing furrows, and he keeps a watch on the beasts in the stalls.
27 Così è per ogni artigiano e costruttore, sempre occupato, di giorno e di notte: chi esegue l'intaglio dei sigilli mette tanta pazienza nel cambiare le forme; applica il suo cuore per raffigurare le immagini, finirà la sua opera perdendo il sonno.	27 So with every engraver and designer who, laboring night and day, Fashions carved seals, and whose concern is to vary the pattern. His care is to produce a vivid impression, and he keeps watch till he finishes his design.
28 Così il fabbro, posto vicino all'incudine, è intento al lavoro del ferro. Il vapore del fuoco liquefà le sue carni, mentre egli si accanisce al caldo del camino. Il colpo del martello ribatte nel suo orecchio, i suoi occhi sono fissi sul modello; applicherà il suo cuore per finire le sue opere, sarà insonne per realizzare un ornamento perfetto.	28 So with the smith standing near his anvil, forging crude iron. The heat from the fire sears his flesh, yet he toils away in the furnace heat. The clang of the hammer deafens his ears, His eyes are fixed on the tool he is shaping. His care is to finish his work, and he keeps watch till he perfects it in detail.
29 Così il ceramista, seduto al suo lavoro, gira con i suoi piedi la ruota, si trova sempre preoccupato per la sua opera, perché tutto il suo lavoro è soggetto al calcolo.	29 So with the potter sitting at his labor, revolving the wheel with his feet. He is always concerned for his products, and turns them out in quantity.
30 Col suo braccio modella l'argilla e con i piedi ne rammollisce la durezza, applica il suo cuore per finire la lucidatura e perde il sonno per pulire il forno.	30 With his hands he molds the clay, and with his feet softens it. His care is for proper coloring, and he keeps watch on the fire of his kiln.
31 Tutti costoro confidano nelle loro mani e ciascuno è abile nel suo mestiere.	31 All these men are skilled with their hands, each one an expert at his own task;
32 Senza di loro la città non può essere costruita, nessuno può abitarvi o circolarvi.	32 Without them no city could be lived in, and wherever they stay, they need not hunger.
33 Ma essi non sono ricercati per il consiglio del popolo, e nell'assemblea non emergono; sul seggio del giudice non siedono e la disposizione della legge non comprendono.	33 They do not occupy the judge's bench, nor are they prominent in the assembly; They set forth no decisions or judgments, nor are they found among the rulers;
34 Non dimostrano né cultura né conoscenza della legge, e non sono perspicaci nei proverbi. Ma essi assicurano il funzionamento del mondo e nell'esercizio della loro arte c'è la loro preghiera.	34 Yet they maintain God's ancient handiwork, and their concern is for exercise of their skill.
