“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.1 Tunc simile erit regnum cae lorum decem virginibus, quae accipienteslampades suas exierunt obviam sponso.
But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.2 Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuae, etquinque prudentes.
For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.3 Fatuae enim, acceptis lampadibus suis, non sumpserunt oleumsecum;
Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.4 prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis cum lampadibus suis.
Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.5 Moramautem faciente sponso, dormitaverunt omnes et dormierunt.
But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’6 Media autem nocteclamor factus est: “Ecce sponsus! Exite obviam ei”.
Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.7 Tunc surrexerunt omnesvirgines illae et ornaverunt lampades suas.
But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’8 Fatuae autem sapientibus dixerunt:“Date nobis de oleo vestro, quia lampades nostrae exstinguuntur”.
The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’9 Responderunt prudentes dicentes: “Ne forte non sufficiat nobis et vobis, itepotius ad vendentes et emite vobis”.
But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.10 Dum autem irent emere, venit sponsus,et quae paratae erant, intraverunt cum eo ad nuptias; et clausa est ianua.
Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’11 Novissime autem veniunt et reliquae virgines dicentes: “Domine, domine, aperinobis”.
But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’12 At ille respondens ait: “Amen dico vobis: Nescio vos”.
And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.13 Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem neque horam.
For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.14 Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens vocavit servos suos et tradidit illisbona sua.
And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.15 Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum,unicuique secundum propriam virtutem, et profectus est. Statim
Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.16 abiit, quiquinque talenta acceperat, et operatus est in eis et lucratus est alia quinque;
And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.17 similiter qui duo acceperat, lucratus est alia duo.
But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.18 Qui autem unumacceperat, abiens fodit in terra et abscondit pecuniam domini sui.
Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.19 Postmultum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum et ponit rationem cum eis.
And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’20 Et accedens, qui quinque talenta acceperat, obtulit alia quinque talentadicens: “Domine, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi; ecce alia quinquesuperlucratus sum”.
His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’21 Ait illi dominus eius: “Euge, serve bone et fidelis.Super pauca fuisti fidelis; supra multa te constituam: intra in gaudium dominitui”.
Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’22 Accessit autem et qui duo talenta acceperat, et ait: “Domine, duotalenta tradidisti mihi; ecce alia duo lucratus sum”.
His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’23 Ait illi dominuseius: “Euge, serve bone et fidelis. Super pauca fuisti fidelis; supra multa teconstituam: intra in gaudium domini tui”.
Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.24 Accedens autem et qui unumtalentum acceperat, ait: “Domine, novi te quia homo durus es: metis, ubi nonseminasti, et congregas, ubi non sparsisti;
And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’25 et timens abii et absconditalentum tuum in terra. Ecce habes, quod tuum est”.
But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.26 Respondens autemdominus eius dixit ei: “Serve male et piger! Sciebas quia meto, ubi nonseminavi, et congrego, ubi non sparsi?
Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.27 Oportuit ergo te mittere pecuniam meamnummulariis, et veniens ego recepissem, quod meum est cum usura.
And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.28 Tolliteitaque ab eo talentum et date ei, qui habet decem talenta:
For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.29 omni enim habentidabitur, et abundabit; ei autem, qui non habet, et quod habet, auferetur ab eo.
And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’30 Et inutilem servum eicite in tenebras exteriores: illic erit fletus etstridor dentium”.
But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.31 Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in gloria sua, et omnes angeli cum eo, tuncsedebit super thronum gloriae suae.
And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.32 Et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes;et separabit eos ab invicem, sicut pastor segregat oves ab haedis,
And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.33 et statuetoves quidem a dextris suis, haedos autem a sinistris.
Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.34 Tunc dicet Rex his, quia dextris eius erunt: “Venite, benedicti Patris mei; possidete paratum vobisregnum a constitutione mundi.
For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;35 Esurivi enim, et dedistis mihi manducare;sitivi, et dedistis mihi bibere; hospes eram, et collegistis me;
naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’36 nudus, etoperuistis me; infirmus, et visitastis me; in carcere eram, et venistis ad me”.
Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?37 Tunc respondebunt ei iusti dicentes: “Domine, quando te vidimus esurientemet pavimus, aut sitientem et dedimus tibi potum?
And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?38 Quando autem te vidimushospitem et collegimus, aut nudum et cooperuimus?
Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’39 Quando autem te vidimusinfirmum aut in carcere et venimus ad te?”.
And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’40 Et respondens Rex dicet illis:“Amen dico vobis: Quamdiu fecistis uni de his fratribus meis minimis, mihifecistis”.
Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.41 Tunc dicet et his, qui a sinistris erunt: “Discedite a me,maledicti, in ignem aeternum, qui praeparatus est Diabolo et angelis eius.
For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;42 Esurivi enim, et non dedistis mihi manducare; sitivi, et non dedistis mihipotum;
I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’43 hospes eram, et non collegistis me; nudus, et non operuistis me;infirmus et in carcere, et non visitastis me”.
Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’44 Tunc respondebunt et ipsidicentes: “Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem aut sitientem aut hospitem autnudum aut infirmum vel in carcere et non ministravimus tibi?”.
Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’45 Tuncrespondebit illis dicens: “Amen dico vobis: Quamdiu non fecistis uni deminimis his, nec mihi fecistis”.
And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”46 Et ibunt hi in supplicium aeternum, iustiautem in vitam aeternam ”.
