CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.1 Τοτε θελει ομοιωθη η βασιλεια των ουρανων με δεκα παρθενους, αιτινες λαβουσαι τας λαμπαδας αυτων εξηλθον εις απαντησιν του νυμφιου.
But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.2 Πεντε δε εξ αυτων ησαν φρονιμοι και πεντε μωραι.
For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.3 Αιτινες μωραι, λαβουσαι τας λαμπαδας αυτων, δεν ελαβον μεθ' εαυτων ελαιον?
Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.4 αι φρονιμοι ομως ελαβον ελαιον εν τοις αγγειοις αυτων μετα των λαμπαδων αυτων.
Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.5 Και επειδη ο νυμφιος εβραδυνεν, ενυσταξαν πασαι και εκοιμωντο.
But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’6 Εν τω μεσω δε της νυκτος εγεινε κραυγη?
Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.7 Τοτε εσηκωθησαν πασαι αι παρθενοι εκειναι και ητοιμασαν τας λαμπαδας αυτων.
But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’8 Και αι μωραι ειπον προς τας φρονιμους?
The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’9 Απεκριθησαν δε αι φρονιμοι, λεγουσαι?
But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.10 Ενω δε απηρχοντο δια να αγορασωσιν, ηλθεν ο νυμφιος και αι ετοιμοι εισηλθον μετ' αυτου εις τους γαμους, και εκλεισθη η θυρα.
Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’11 Υστερον δε ερχονται και αι λοιπαι παρθενοι, λεγουσαι?
But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’12 Ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν?
And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.13 Αγρυπνειτε λοιπον, διοτι δεν εξευρετε την ημεραν ουδε την ωραν, καθ' ην ο Υιος του ανθρωπου ερχεται.
For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.14 Διοτι θελει ελθει ως ανθρωπος, οστις αποδημων εκαλεσε τους δουλους αυτου και παρεδωκεν εις αυτους τα υπαρχοντα αυτου,
And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.15 και εις αλλον μεν εδωκε πεντε ταλαντα, εις αλλον δε δυο, εις αλλον δε εν, εις εκαστον κατα την ιδιαν αυτου ικανοτητα, και απεδημησεν ευθυς.
Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.16 Υπηγε δε ο λαβων τα πεντε ταλαντα και εργαζομενος δι' αυτων εκαμεν αλλα πεντε ταλαντα.
And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.17 Ωσαυτως και ο τα δυο εκερδησε και αυτος αλλα δυο.
But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.18 Ο δε λαβων το εν υπηγε και εσκαψεν εις την γην και εκρυψε το αργυριον του κυριου αυτου.
Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.19 Μετα δε καιρον πολυν ερχεται ο κυριος των δουλων εκεινων και θεωρει λογαριασμον μετ' αυτων.
And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’20 Και ελθων ο λαβων τα πεντε ταλαντα, προσεφερεν αλλα πεντε ταλαντα, λεγων?
His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’21 Και ειπε προς αυτον ο κυριος αυτου?
Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’22 Προσελθων δε και ο λαβων τα δυο ταλαντα ειπε?
His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’23 Ειπε προς αυτον ο κυριος αυτου?
Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.24 Προσελθων δε και ο λαβων το εν ταλαντον, ειπε?
And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’25 και φοβηθεις υπηγα και εκρυψα το ταλαντον σου εν τη γη?
But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.26 Αποκριθεις δε ο κυριος αυτου, ειπε προς αυτον?
Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.27 επρεπε λοιπον να βαλης το αργυριον μου εις τους τραπεζιτας, και ελθων εγω ηθελον λαβει το εμον μετα τοκου.
And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.28 Λαβετε λοιπον απ' αυτου το ταλαντον, και δοτε εις τον εχοντα τα δεκα ταλαντα.
For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.29 Διοτι εις παντα τον εχοντα θελει δοθη και περισσευθη, απο δε του μη εχοντος και εκεινο το οποιον εχει θελει αφαιρεθη απ' αυτου.
And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’30 Και τον αχρειον δουλον ριψατε εις το σκοτος το εξωτερον?
But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.31 Οταν δε ελθη ο ιος του ανθρωπου εν τη δοξη αυτου και παντες οι αγιοι αγγελοι μετ' αυτου, τοτε θελει καθησει επι του θρονου της δοξης αυτου,
And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.32 και θελουσι συναχθη εμπροσθεν αυτου παντα τα εθνη, και θελει χωρισει αυτους απ' αλληλων, καθως ο ποιμην χωριζει τα προβατα απο των εριφιων,
And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.33 και θελει στησει τα μεν προβατα εκ δεξιων αυτου, τα δε εριφια εξ αριστερων.
Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.34 Τοτε ο Βασιλευς θελει ειπει προς τους εκ δεξιων αυτου?
For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;35 Διοτι επεινασα, και μοι εδωκατε να φαγω, εδιψησα, και με εποτισατε, ξενος ημην, και με εφιλοξενησατε,
naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’36 γυμνος, και με ενεδυσατε, ησθενησα, και με επεσκεφθητε, εν φυλακη ημην, και ηλθετε προς εμε.
Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?37 Τοτε θελουσιν αποκριθη προς αυτον οι δικαιοι, λεγοντες? Κυριε, ποτε σε ειδομεν πεινωντα και εθρεψαμεν, η διψωντα και εποτισαμεν;
And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?38 ποτε δε σε ειδομεν ξενον και εφιλοξενησαμεν, η γυμνον και ενεδυσαμεν;
Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’39 ποτε δε σε ειδομεν ασθενη η εν φυλακη και ηλθομεν προς σε;
And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’40 Και αποκριθεις ο Βασιλευς θελει ειπει προς αυτους?
Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.41 Τοτε θελει ειπει και προς τους εξ αριστερων?
For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;42 Διοτι επεινασα, και δεν μοι εδωκατε να φαγω, εδιψησα, και δεν με εποτισατε,
I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’43 ξενος ημην, και δεν με εφιλοξενησατε, γυμνος, και δεν με ενεδυσατε, ασθενης και εν φυλακη, και δεν με επεσκεφθητε.
Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’44 Τοτε θελουσιν αποκριθη προς αυτον και αυτοι, λεγοντες? Κυριε, ποτε σε ειδομεν πεινωντα η διψωντα η ξενον η γυμνον η ασθενη η εν φυλακη, και δεν σε υπηρετησαμεν;
Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’45 Τοτε θελει αποκριθη προς αυτους, λεγων?
And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”46 Και θελουσιν απελθει ουτοι μεν εις κολασιν αιωνιον, οι δε δικαιοι εις ζωην αιωνιον.
