1 And the people set out from Hazeroth, and they pitched their tents in the desert of Paran.	1 El Señor dijo a Moisés:
2 And there, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:	2 «Envía unos hombres a explorar el país de Canaán, que yo doy a los israelitas; enviarás a un hombre por cada una de sus tribus paternas, todos ellos jefes de tribu».
3 “Send men, who may examine the land of Canaan, which I will give to the sons of Israel, one from the rulers of each tribe.”	3 Entonces Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, según la orden del Señor. Todos estos hombres eran jefes de los israelitas,
4 Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending, from the desert of Paran, leading men, whose names are these:	4 y sus nombres eran los siguientes: Por la tribu de Rubén, Samuá, hijo de Zacur;
5 from the tribe of Ruben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;	5 por la tribu de Simeón, Safat, hijo de Jorí,
6 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;	6 por la tribu de Judá, Caleb, hijo de Iefuné;
7 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;	7 por la tribu de Isacar, Igal, hijo de José;
8 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;	8 por la tribu de Efraím, Oseas, hijo de Nun;
9 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Nun;	9 por la tribu de Benjamín, Paltí, hijo de Rafú;
10 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;	10 por la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel, hijo de Sodí;
11 from the tribe of Zebulon, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;	11 por la tribu de José, o sea, por la tribu de Manasés, Gadí, hijo de Susí;
12 from the tribe of Joseph, of the scepter of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;	12 por la tribu de Dan, Amiel, hijo de Guemalí;
13 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;	13 por la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Miguel;
14 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;	14 por la tribu de Neftalí, Najbí, hijo de Vofsí;
15 from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;	15 por la tribu de Gad, Gueuel, hijo de Maquí.
16 from the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.	16 Estos son los nombres de las personas que envió Moisés a explorar el país. Y a Oseas, hijo de Nun, Moisés lo llamó Josué.
17 These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to examine the land. And he called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.	17 Cuando Moisés los envió a explorar el territorio de Canaán, les dijo: «Suban ahí, por el Négueb, y luego avancen hasta la región montañosa.
18 And so, Moses sent them to examine the land of Canaan, and he said to them: “Ascend by the south side. And when you arrive at the mountains,	18 Observen cómo es el país, y la gente que lo ocupa es fuerte o débil, escasa o numerosa.
19 consider the land, as to what kind it may be, and the people, who are its inhabitants, whether they may be strong or weak, whether they may be few in number or many,	19 Fíjense también si la tierra donde viven es buena o mala, y si las ciudades en que habitan son abiertas o fortificadas;
20 and the land itself, whether it is good or bad, what kind of cities, walled or without walls,	20 si el suelo es fértil o árido, y si está arbolado o no. Tengan valor, y traigan algunos frutos de la región». Esto sucedió en el tiempo de las primeras uvas.
21 the soil, rich or barren, forested or without trees. Be strong, and bring us some of the fruits of the land.” Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes were ready to be eaten.	21 Los hombres fueron a explorar el país, desde el desierto de Sin hasta Rejob, a la Entrada de Jamat.
22 And when they had ascended, they explored the land from the desert of Sin, all the way to Rehob, as one enters into Hamath.	22 Subieron por el Negueb y llegaron a Hebrón, donde vivían Ajimán, Sesai y Talmai, descendientes de Anac –Hebrón había sido fundada siete años antes que Tanis de Egipto–.
23 And they ascended by the south side. And they arrived at Hebron, where there were Ahiman and Shishai and Talmai, the sons of Anak. For Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis, the city of Egypt.	23 Cuando llegaron al valle de Escol, cortaron una rama de vi con un racimo de uvas, y tuvieron que llevarla entre dos, sostenida con una vara. También recogieron granadas e higos.
24 And continuing on as far as the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, they cut off a vine with its grapes, which two men carried on a board. Likewise, they took from the pomegranates and the figs of that place,	24 Ese lugar fue llamado valle de Escol –que significa Racimo– a causa del racimo que los israelitas habían cortado allí.
25 which was called Nehel Eshcol, that is, the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, because the sons of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes from there.	25 Al cabo de cuarenta días volvieron de explorar el país.
26 And those exploring the land returned after forty days, having circulated through the entire region.	26 Entonces fueron a ver a Moisés, a Aarón y a toda la comunidad de los israelitas en Cades, en el desierto de Parán, y les presentaron su informe, al mismo tiempo que les mostraban los frutos del país.
27 And they went to Moses and Aaron, and to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel in the desert of Paran, which is in Kadesh. And speaking to them, and to the entire multitude, they showed them the fruits of the land.	27 Les contaron lo siguiente: «Fuimos al país donde ustedes nos enviaron; es realmente un país que mana leche y miel, y estos son sus frutos.
28 And they explained, saying: “We went into the land, to which you sent us, which, it is true, flows with milk and honey, as one can know by these fruits.	28 Pero, ¡qué poderosa es la gente que ocupa el país! Sus ciudades están fortificadas y son muy grandes. Además, vimos allí a los anaquitas.
29 But it has very strong occupants, and the cities are great and also walled. We saw the race of Anak there.	29 Los amalecitas habitan en la región del Négueb; los hititas, los jebuseos y los amorreos ocupan la región montañosa; y los cananeos viven junto al mar y a lo largo del Jordán».
30 Amalek lives in the south. The Hethite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the mountains. And truly, the Canaanite stays near the sea and around the streams of the Jordan.”	30 Caleb trató de animar al pueblo que estaba junto a Moisés, diciéndole: «Subamos en seguida y conquistemos el país, porque ciertamente podremos contra él».
31 During these events, Caleb, to restrain the murmuring of the people who rose up against Moses, said, “Let us ascend and possess the land, for we will be able to obtain it.”	31 Pero los hombres que habían subido con él replicaron: «No podemos atacar a esa gente, porque es más fuerte que nosotros».
32 Yet truly, the others, who had been with him, were saying, “By no means are we able to ascend to this people, because they are stronger than we are.”	32 Y divulgaron entre los israelitas falsos rumores acerca del país que habían explorado, diciendo: «La tierra que recorrimos y exploramos devora a sus propios habitantes. Toda la gente que vimos allí es muy alta.
33 And before the sons of Israel they disparaged the land, which they had inspected, saying: “The land, which we viewed, devours its inhabitants. The people, upon whom we gazed, were of lofty stature.	33 Vimos a los gigantes –los anaquitas son raza de gigantes–. Nosotros nos sentíamos como langostas delante de ellos, y esa es la impresión que debimos darles».
34 There, we saw some monsters among the sons of Anak, of the race of giants; by comparison with them, we seemed like locusts.”
