Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:	1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, che apprese da sua madre.
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?	2 Che mai, figlio mio! Che mai, figlio del mio grembo! Che mai, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.	3 Non concedere alle donne il tuo vigore, né i tuoi fianchi a quelle che corrompono i re.
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.	4 Non conviene ai re, Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere il vino, né ai prìncipi desiderare bevande inebrianti,
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.	5 per paura che, bevendo, dimentichino ciò che hanno decretato e tradiscano il diritto di tutti gli infelici.
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.	6 Date bevande inebrianti a chi si sente venir meno e il vino a chi ha l’amarezza nel cuore:
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.	7 beva e dimentichi la sua povertà e non si ricordi più delle sue pene.
