1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:1 Palabras de Lemuel, rey de Massá, que le enseño su madre:
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?2 ¡No, hijo mío, no, hijo de mis entrañas!
¡No, hijo de mis votos!
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.3 No entregues tu vigor a las mujeres,
ni tus caminos a las que pierden a los reyes.
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.4 No es para los reyes, Lemuel,
no es para los reyes beber vino,
ni para los príncipes ser aficionado a la bebida.
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.5 No sea que, bebiendo, olviden sus decretos
y pervientan las causas de todos los desvalidos.
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.6 Dad bebidas fuertes al que va a perecer
y vino al de alma amargada;
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.7 que beba y olvide su miseria,
y no se acuerde ya de su desgracia.
8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.8 Abre tu boca en favor del mudo,
por la causa de todos los abandonados,
