Psalms 93

1 A Psalm of David himself. The Fourth Sabbath. The Lord is the God of retribution. The God of retribution acts in order to deliver.	1 (Salmo di David. Per il quarto giorno dopo il sabato). Il Signore è il Dio delle vendette: il Dio delle vendette agisce liberamente.
2 Lift yourself up, for you judge the earth. Repay the arrogant with retribution.	2 Levati su, o giudice della terra, dà ai superbi quanto si meritano.
3 How long will sinners, O Lord, how long will sinners glory?	3 Fino a quando, o Signore, i peccatori, fino a quando i peccatori si vanteranno?
4 How long will they utter and speak iniquity? How long will all who work injustice speak out?	4 Aprirai! la bocca e parleranno iniquamente? Dovran parlare tutti i malfattori?
5 They have humiliated your people, O Lord, and they have harassed your inheritance.	5 Signore, essi hanno umiliato il tuo popolo, hanno malmenata la tua eredità.
6 They have executed the widow and the new arrival, and they have slaughtered the orphan.	6 Han trucidato la vedova e l'ospite, hanno assassinati gli orfani.
7 And they have said, “The Lord will not see, nor will the God of Jacob understand.”	7 E dicono: « Il Signore non vedrà, il Dio di Giacobbe non ne saprà nulla ».
8 Understand, you senseless ones among the people. And be wise at last, you foolish ones.	8 Intendete, o insensati del popolo, o stolti, mettete giudizio una buona volta.
9 He who formed the ear, will he not hear? And he who forged the eye, does he not look closely?	9 Chi ha piantato l'orecchio non sentirà? Chi ha plasmato rocchio non vedrà?
10 He who chastises nations, he who teaches man knowledge, will he not rebuke?	10 Colui che castiga i popoli non correggerà, colui che insegna all'uomo la scienza?
11 The Lord knows the thoughts of men: that these are in vain.	11 Il Signore conosce bene i pensieri degli uomini, e sa che sono vani.
12 Blessed is the man whom you will instruct, O Lord. And you will teach him from your law.	12 Beato l'uomo che avrai istruito tu, o Signore, a cui avrai insegnata la tua legge,
13 So may you soothe him from the evil days, until a pit may be dug for sinners.	13 per rendere a lui men duri i giorni tristi, finché non sia scavata al peccatore la fossa.
14 For the Lord will not drive away his people, and he will not abandon his inheritance,	14 Certo il Signore non rigetterà il suo popolo, non lascerà in abbandono la sua eredità
15 even until the time when justice is being converted into judgment, and when those who are close to justice are all those who are upright of heart.	15 Fino a tanto che la giustizia non diventi giudizio, e non stiano vicino a lei tutti i retti di cuore.
16 Who will rise up with me against the malignant? Or who will stand with me against the workers of iniquity?	16 Chi si leverà in mio favore contro i maligni? E chi starà dalla mia parte contro i malfattori?
17 Except that the Lord assisted me, my soul almost would have dwelt in Hell.	17 Se non m'avesse aiutato il Signore, per poco men che niente sarei già nel sepolcro.
18 If ever I said, “My foot is slipping,” then your mercy, O Lord, assisted me.	18 Appena io dicevo: « il mio piede vacilla », la tua misericordia, o Signore, veniva ad aiutarmi.
19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, your consolations have given joy to my soul.	19 In proporzione dei molti dolori che ha provato il mio cuore, le tue consolazioni han rallegrata l'anima mia.
20 Does the seat of iniquity adhere to you, you who contrive hardship within a commandment?	20 Avrà che fare il tribunale d'iniquità con te, che metti l'affanno nel precetto?
21 They will hunt down the soul of the just, and they will condemn innocent blood.	21 Vanno a caccia della vita del giusto e condannano il sangue innocente.
22 And the Lord has been made into a refuge for me, and my God into the assistance of my hope.	22 Ma il Signore è il mio rifugio, il mio Dio è il sostegno della mia speranza.
23 And he will repay them their iniquity, and he will destroy them in their malice. The Lord our God will utterly destroy them.	23 Egli farà ricascare sopra di essi la loro iniquità, li manderà in rovina per la loro malizia, li disperderà il Signore Dio nostro.
