1 To David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are exceedingly great. You have clothed yourself with confession and beauty;	1 Dello stesso Davidde. Benedici il Signore, o anima mia: Signore Dio mio, tu ti se' glorificato potentemente.
2 you are dressed with light like a garment, while you stretch out heaven like a tent.	2 Ti se' rivestito di gloria, e di splendidezza: cinto di luce come di veste.
3 You cover its heights with water. You set the clouds as your stairs. You walk upon the wings of the winds.	3 Tu stendi il cielo come un padiglione, e di acque e cuopri la parte sua superiore.
4 You make your Angels a breath of life, and your ministers a burning fire.	4 Tu, che monti sopra le nuvole, o cammini sull'ali de' venti.
5 You founded the earth upon its stable base. It will not be bent from age to age.	5 Che i tuoi Angeli fai (come) venti, e i tuoi ministri fuoco fiammante.
6 The abyss, like a garment, is its clothing. The waters will remain standing above the mountains.	6 Tu, che la terra fondasti sopra la propria stabilità: ella non varierà di sito giammai.
7 At your rebuke, they will flee. At the voice of your thunder, they will dread.	7 L'abisso quasi veste la cinge: si innalzeranno le acque sopra de' monti.
8 The mountains ascend, and the plains descend, to the place which you have founded for them.	8 Alle tue minacce elleno fuggiranno: si atterriranno al tuono della tua voce.
9 You have set a limit that they will not cross. And they will not return to cover the earth.	9 Si alzano i monti, e si appianan le valli ne' luoghi, che tu loro assegnasti.
10 You spring forth fountains in steep valleys. The waters will cross through the midst of the mountains.	10 Fissasti un termine alle acque, cui elle non trapasseranno: e non torneranno a coprire la terra.
11 All the wild beasts of the field will drink. The wild donkeys will anticipate in their thirst.	11 Tu nelle valli fai scaturir le fontane, filtrando le acque pel seno de' monti.
12 Above them, the flying things of the air will dwell. From the midst of the rocks, they will utter voices.	12 Con esse saranno abbeverate tutte mie bestie de' campi: queste sospirano gli asini salvatici quando sono assetati.
13 You irrigate the mountains from your heights. The earth will be satiated from the fruit of your works,	13 Presso di esse abitano gli uccelli dell'aria: di mezzo ai sassi fanno udire le loro voci.
14 producing grass for cattle and herbs for the service of men. So may you draw bread from the earth,	14 Tu da' superiori luoghi innaffi i monti: de' frutti, che son tuo lavoro, sarà saziata la terra.
15 and wine, in order to cheer the heart of man. Then he may gladden his face with oil, and bread will confirm the heart of man.	15 Tu produci il fieno per le bestie, e gli erbaggi in servigio degli uomini.
16 The trees of the field will be saturated, along with the cedars of Lebanon, which he planted.	16 Per trarre dalla terra il pane, e il vino letificante il cuor dell'uomo. E perch'ei possa esilarar sua faccia coll'olio, e col pane le sue forze corrobori.
17 There, the sparrows will make their nests. The leader of them is the house of the heron.	17 Avranno a sazietà nudrimento gli alberi della campagna, e i cedri del Libano, i quali egli piantò: ivi faranno a loro nidi gli angelli.
18 The heights of the hills are for the deer; the rock is a refuge for the hedgehog.	18 La casa della cicogna sovrasta ad essi: gli alti monti servon di asilo ai cervi, i massi agli spinosi.
19 He has made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its setting.	19 Egli fece la luna per la distinzione de' tempi: il sole sa dove abbia da tramontare.
20 You appointed darkness, and it has become night; all the beasts of the forest will cross through it.	20 Tu ordinasti le tenebre, e si fè notte: nel tempo di essa vanno attorno le bestie selvagge.
21 The young lions will roar, while searching for and seizing their meal from God.	21 I leoncini ruggiscono bramosi di preda, e da Dio chieggono il loro nudrimento.
22 The sun arose, and they were gathered together; and in their dens, they will lie down together.	22 Ma spunta il sole, ed ei si ritirano in truppa, e nelle tane loro si sdraiano.
23 Man will go forth to his work and to his activities, until the evening.	23 Se ne va l'uomo alle sue faccende, e a' suoi lavori infino alla sera.
24 How great are your works, O Lord! You have made all things in wisdom. The earth has been filled with your possessions.	24 Quanto grandiose son le opere sue, o Signore! ogni cosa hai tu fatto con sapienza: la terra è piena di tue ricchezze.
25 This sea is great and its hands are spacious. There are creeping things without number: the small animals with the great.	25 Questo gran mare, e spazioso nelle sue braccia: in esso animali che non han numero.
26 There, the ships will pass by this sea-serpent that you have formed to mock them.	26 Animali piccoli, e grandi: ivi cammineranno le navi.
27 All these expect you to give them food in due time.	27 Ivi quel dragone, cui tu formasti perché vi scherzi: tutte le cose aspettan da te, che tu dia loro sostentamento nel tempo opportuno.
28 What you give to them, they will gather. When you open your hand, they will all be filled with goodness.	28 Tu lo dai, ed elleno lo raccolgono: quando tu allarghi la mano tutte le cose son ricolme di bene.
29 But if you turn your face away, they will be disturbed. You will take away their breath, and they will fail, and they will return to their dust.	29 Ma quando tu rivolgi altrove la faccia, tutte le cose sono in turbamento: tu le privi di spirito, e vengon meno, e ritornano nella lor polvere.
30 You will send forth your Spirit, and they will be created. And you will renew the face of the earth.	30 Manderai lo spirito tuo, e saranno create, e l'innovellerai la faccia della terra.
31 May the glory of the Lord be for all ages. The Lord will rejoice in his works.	31 Sia celebrata pe' secoli la gloria del Signore: si allegrerà il Signore nelle opere sue:
32 He considers the earth, and he makes it tremble. He touches the mountains, and they smoke.	32 Ei, che mira la terra, e la fa tremare: tocca i monti, e gettan fumo.
33 I will sing to the Lord with my life. I will sing psalms to my God, as long as I am.	33 Io canterò il Signore finché viverò: a lui darò laude fino che io sarò.
34 May my speech be pleasing to him. Truly, I will take delight in the Lord.	34 Siano accette a lui le mie parole: quanto a me il mio diletto sarà nel Signore.
35 Let sinners fade away from the earth, along with the unjust, so that they may not be. Bless the Lord, O my soul.	35 Spariscano dalla terra i peccatori, gli iniqui talmente che più non siano: benedici, anima mia, il Signore.
