Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints.1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty.2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation.3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them.4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources.5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth.6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly.7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God.8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number.9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters.10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health.11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun.12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse.13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night.14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech.16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord.17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal.18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you.19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword.20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives.21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth.22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you.23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin.24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth.25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time.26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
Behold, this is just as we have found it, which you have heard; walk it through your mind.27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
