Der Brief des Jakobus 5

1 Hört nun, ihr Reichen, weint und klagt über die Drangsale, die über euch kommen werden.	1 Well now, you rich! Lament, weep for the miseries that are coming to you.
2 Euer Reichtum wird verfault sein und eure Kleider von Motten zerfressen,	2 Your wealth is rotting, your clothes are al moth-eaten.
3 euer Gold und Silber verrostet, und ihr Rost wird ein Zeugnis sein gegen euch und an eurem Fleische fressen wie Feuer. Noch bis zuletzt habt ihr Schätze angehäuft.	3 Al your gold and your silver are corroding away, and the same corrosion wil be a witness against youand eat into your body. It is like a fire which you have stored up for the final days.
4 Seht, der von euch vorenthaltene Lohn der Arbeiter, die eure Felder abernteten, schreit, und die Schreie der Schnitter sind zu den "Ohren des Herrn der Heerscharen" (Is 5,9) gedrungen.	4 Can you hear crying out against you the wages which you kept back from the labourers mowing yourfields? The cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord Sabaoth.
5 Gepraßt habt ihr auf Erden und geschwelgt und habt in der Gier eurer Herzen euch gemästet am "Tage des Schlachtens" (Jer 12,3).	5 On earth you have had a life of comfort and luxury; in the time of slaughter you went on eating to yourheart's content.
6 Ihr habt den Gerechten verurteilt und gemordet; er wehrt sich nicht gegen euch.	6 It was you who condemned the upright and killed them; they offered you no resistance.
7 Seid beharrlich, Brüder, bis zur Ankunft des Herrn! Seht, der Ackermann wartet auf die köstliche Frucht der Erde, und er harrt in Geduld mit ihr, bis sie den Früh- und Spätregen empfängt (Jer 5,24).	7 Now be patient, brothers, until the Lord's coming. Think of a farmer: how patiently he waits for theprecious fruit of the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the spring rains!
8 So seid auch ihr beharrlich und erstarkt in euren Herzen; denn die Ankunft des Herrn hat sich genaht.	8 You too must be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord's coming will be soon.
9 Seid nicht mürrisch zueinander, Brüder, damit ihr nicht verurteilt werdet! Seht, der Richter steht vor der Tür!	9 Do not make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not to be brought to judgementyourselves; the Judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates.
10 Nehmt, Brüder, als Vorbild der Geduld und Beharrlichkeit die Propheten, die im Namen des Herrn geredet haben.	10 For your example, brothers, in patiently putting up with persecution, take the prophets who spoke inthe Lord's name;
11 Seht, wir preisen sie selig, die ausgeharrt haben. Von der Beharrlichkeit des Job habt ihr gehört und das Ende geschaut, das der Herr wirkte; denn "der Herr ist gütig und voll Erbarmen" (Ps 103,8; Ps 111,4).	11 remember it is those who had perseverance that we say are the blessed ones. You have heard of theperseverance of Job and understood the Lord's purpose, realising that the Lord is kind and compassionate.
12 Vor allen Dingen, meine Brüder schwört nicht, weder beim Himmel noch bei der Erde noch sonst einen Eid! Euer Ja sei ein Ja, euer Nein ein Nein, damit ihr nicht dem Gericht verfallet.	12 Above al , my brothers, do not swear by heaven or by the earth or use any oaths at al . If you mean'yes', you must say 'yes'; if you mean 'no', say 'no'. Otherwise you make yourselves liable to judgement.
13 Trägt von euch jemand ein Leid, so bete er; ist jemand frohen Mutes, lobsinge er.	13 Any one of you who is in trouble should pray; anyone in good spirits should sing a psalm.
14 Ist unter euch jemand krank, so rufe er die Presbyter der Gemeinde; die sollen über ihn beten und ihn mit Öl salben im Namen des Herrn,	14 Any one of you who is il should send for the elders of the church, and they must anoint the sickperson with oil in the name of the Lord and pray over him.
15 und das Gebet des Glaubens wird dem Kranken zum Heile sein, und der Herr wird ihn aufrichten, und wenn er Sünden begangen hat, wird ihm vergeben werden.	15 The prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord wil raise him up again; and if he hascommitted any sins, he wil be forgiven.
16 Bekennt also einander die Sünden und betet füreinander, damit ihr geheilt werdet. Viel vermag das hingebende Gebet des Gerechten.	16 So confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another to be cured; the heartfelt prayer ofsomeone upright works very powerful y.
17 Elias war ein Mensch, gleichgeartet wie wir; er betete inständig, daß es nicht regnen möge, und es regnete drei Jahre und sechs Monate nicht über das Land.	17 Elijah was a human being as frail as ourselves -- he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain felfor three and a half years;
18 Da betete er abermals, und der Himmel spendete Regen, und die Erde brachte ihre Frucht hervor (1Kön 17,1; 1Kön 18,1).	18 then he prayed again and the sky gave rain and the earth gave crops.
19 Meine Brüder! Sollte unter euch jemand von der Wahrheit abgeirrt sein, und jemand führt ihn zurück,	19 My brothers, if one of you strays away from the truth, and another brings him back to it,
20 der wisse: Wer einen Sünder von seinem Irrweg zurückbringt, wird seine Seele vor dem Tode retten und eine Menge Sünden zudecken.	20 he may be sure that anyone who can bring back a sinner from his erring ways wil be saving his soulfrom death and covering over many a sin.
