1 Jesus kehrte voll Heiligen Geistes vom Jordan zurück und wurde vom Geist in der Wüste umhergeführt, vierzig Tage hindurch,	1 Fil ed with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert,
2 wobei er versucht wurde vom Teufel. Er aß nichts in jenen Tagen, und als sie vorüber waren, hungerte ihn.	2 for forty days being put to the test by the devil. During that time he ate nothing and at the end he washungry.
3 Da sagte der Teufel zu ihm: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so sag zu diesem Stein, daß er Brot werde."	3 Then the devil said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel this stone to turn into a loaf.'
4 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Es steht geschrieben: "Nicht nur von Brot lebt der Mensch"" (5Mos 8,3).	4 But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.'
5 Dann führte er ihn hinauf und zeigte ihm in einem Augenblick alle Reiche des Erdkreises.	5 Then leading him to a height, the devil showed him in a moment of time al the kingdoms of the world
6 Und der Teufel sagte zu ihm: "Diese ganze Macht will ich dir geben und ihre Herrlichkeit; denn mir ist sie übergeben, und wem ich will, dem gebe ich sie.	6 and said to him, 'I wil give you al this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, forme to give it to anyone I choose.
7 Wenn du mich nun anbetest, soll sie ganz dein sein."	7 Do homage, then, to me, and it shal al be yours.'
8 Jesus erwiderte ihm: "Es steht geschrieben: "Den Herrn, deinen Gott, sollst du anbeten und ihm allein dienen"" (5Mos 6,13).	8 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone youmust serve.'
9 Dann führte er ihn nach Jerusalem, stellte ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels und sagte zu ihm: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so stürze dich von da hinab;	9 Then he led him to Jerusalem and set him on the parapet of the Temple. 'If you are Son of God,' he saidto him, 'throw yourself down from here,
10 denn es steht geschrieben: "Seinen Engeln wird er deinetwegen befehlen, dich zu bewahren"	10 for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again:
11 und: "Sie sollen dich auf Händen tragen, daß du nicht etwa an einen Stein deinen Fuß stoßest"" (Ps 91,11f).	11 They wil carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'
12 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Es ist gesagt: "Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen"!" (5Mos 6,16).	12 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
13 Als der Teufel mit allen Versuchungen zu Ende war, ließ er von ihm ab bis zu gelegener Zeit.	13 Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment.
14 Jesus kehrte in der Kraft des Geistes nach Galiläa zurück, und die Kunde von ihm verbreitete sich im ganzen Umkreis.	14 Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout thecountryside.
15 Er lehrte in ihren Synagogen und wurde von allen gepriesen.	15 He taught in their synagogues and everyone glorified him.
16 Er kam auch nach Nazareth, wo er aufgewachsen war, ging nach seiner Gewohnheit am Sabbat in die Synagoge und stand auf um vorzulesen.	16 He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath dayas he usually did. He stood up to read,
17 Man reichte ihm das Buch des Propheten Isaias, und als er die Buchrolle öffnete, traf er auf die Stelle, wo geschrieben steht:	17 and they handed him the scrol of the prophet Isaiah. Unrol ing the scrol he found the place where it iswritten:
18 "Der Geist des Herrn ist auf mir, denn er hat mich gesalbt; Armen frohe Botschaft zu bringen, sandte er mich, Gefangenen Befreiung zu künden und Blinden das Augenlicht, Gequälte zu entlassen in Freiheit	18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He hassent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 und auszurufen ein Gnadenjahr des Herrn" (Is 61,1f; Is 58,6).	19 to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.
20 Er rollte das Buch zusammen, gab es dem Diener zurück und setzte sich. Aller Augen in der Synagoge waren voll Spannung auf ihn gerichtet.	20 He then rol ed up the scrol , gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 Er aber begann zu ihnen zu sprechen: "Heute hat sich diese Schrift erfüllt vor euren Ohren."	21 Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'
22 Und alle stimmten ihm beifällig zu und waren voll Staunen über die Worte der Gnade, die aus seinem Munde kamen, und sie sagten: "Ist der nicht des Josephs Sohn?"	22 And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from hislips. They said, 'This is Joseph's son, surely?'
23 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: "Ganz gewiß werdet ihr mir das Sprichwort entgegenhalten: Arzt, heile dich selbst! Alle Taten, von denen wir in Kapharnaum hörten, vollbringe sie auch hier in deiner Vaterstadt!"	23 But he replied, 'No doubt you will quote me the saying, "Physician, heal yourself," and tel me, "We have heard al that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country." '
24 Und weiter sprach er: "Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Kein Prophet ist willkommen in seiner Vaterstadt.	24 And he went on, 'In truth I tel you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.
25 Wahrhaftig, ich sage euch: Viele Witwen gab es in den Tagen des Elias in Israel, als der Himmel verschlossen war für drei Jahre und sechs Monate, und eine große Hungersnot kam über das ganze Land;	25 'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut forthree years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,
26 doch zu keiner von ihnen wurde Elias gesandt, sondern zu einer Witwe nach Sarepta im Gebiet von Sidon (1Kön 17,9).	26 but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.
27 Und viele Aussätzige gab es in Israel zur Zeit des Propheten Elisäus; doch keiner von ihnen wurde gereinigt, sondern Naaman, der Syrer" (2Kön 5,14).	27 And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, butnone of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'
28 Da wurden alle in der Synagoge, die das hörten, von Zorn erfüllt,	28 When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.
29 standen auf, stießen ihn zur Stadt hinaus und führten ihn bis zum Rande des Berges, auf dem ihre Stadt erbaut war, um ihn hinabzustürzen.	29 They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hilltheir town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,
30 Er aber schritt mitten durch sie hindurch und ging von dannen.	30 but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.
31 Und er zog nach Kapharnaum hinab, einer Stadt Galiläas, und lehrte sie am Sabbat.	31 He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.
32 Sie gerieten außer sich vor Staunen über seine Lehre; denn voll Macht war sein Wort.	32 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.
33 In der Synagoge war ein Mensch mit dem Geist eines unreinen Dämons; der schrie mit lauter Stimme:	33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at thetop of his voice,
34 "Ha, was willst du von uns, Jesus, Nazarener? Bist du gekommen, uns zu verderben? Ich weiß, wer du bist: Der Heilige Gottes!"	34 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who youare: the Holy One of God.'
35 Jesus fuhr ihn an und sprach: "Verstumme und fahre aus von ihm!" Da warf ihn der Dämon mitten vor sie hin und fuhr von ihm aus, ohne ihm Schaden zu tun.	35 But Jesus rebuked it, saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the devil, throwing the man into themiddle, went out of him without hurting him at all.
36 Ein Erschauern erfaßte alle, und sie sprachen zueinander: "Was ist das für ein Wort? Er gebietet mit Macht und Kraft den unreinen Geistern, und sie fahren aus!"	36 Astonishment seized them and they were al saying to one another, 'What is it in his words? He givesorders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.'
37 Und die Kunde von ihm drang zu allen Orten im Umkreis.	37 And the news of him travel ed al through the surrounding countryside.
38 Er stand auf und begab sich von der Synagoge weg in das Haus des Simon. Die Schwiegermutter des Simon aber war von einem heftigen Fieber befallen, und sie baten ihn ihretwegen.	38 Leaving the synagogue he went to Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was in the grip of ahigh fever and they asked him to do something for her.
39 Er beugte sich über sie, gebot dem Fieber, und es wich von ihr. Sie stand sogleich auf und bediente sie.	39 Standing over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to servethem.
40 Als die Sonne unterging, brachten alle, die Kranke hatten mit Gebrechen verschiedener Art, diese zu ihm, und er legte einem jeden von ihnen die Hände auf und machte sie gesund.	40 At sunset al those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them tohim, and laying his hands on each he cured them.
41 Von vielen fuhren auch Dämonen aus, die laut riefen: "Du bist der Sohn Gottes!" Er aber fuhr sie an und ließ sie nicht reden; denn sie wußten, daß er der Messias war.	41 Devils too came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God.' But he warned them andwould not al ow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 Mit Tagesanbruch ging er fort und begab sich an einen einsamen Ort. Die Scharen des Volkes suchten nach ihm und kamen bis zu ihm und wollten ihn festhalten, daß er nicht fortgehe von ihnen.	42 When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look forhim, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them,
43 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: "Auch den anderen Städten muß ich das Evangelium künden vom Reiche Gottes; denn dazu bin ich gesandt."	43 but he answered, 'I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too,because that is what I was sent to do.'
44 Und er predigte in den Synagogen im Lande der Juden.	44 And he continued his proclamation in the synagogues of Judaea.
