Der Herr sprach zu Moses:1 The LORD said to Moses,
"Nimm Rache für die Israeliten an den Midianitern; dann sollst du zu deinen Volksgenossen versammelt werden!"2 "Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites; afterward you shall be gathered to your people."
Moses sprach darauf zum Volke: "Rüstet euch Männer aus eurer Mitte zum Kriegszug aus; sie sollen gegen die Midianiter ziehen, um des Herrn Rache an den Midianitern zu vollstrecken!3 And Moses said to the people, "Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute the LORD's vengeance on Midian.
Je tausend Mann von allen Stämmen Israels sollt ihr zu dem Kriegszug entsenden!"4 You shall send a thousand from each of the tribes of Israel to the war."
Es wurden aus Israels Tausendschaften je tausend von jedem Stamme ausgehoben, also 12 000 Kampfgerüstete.5 So there were provided, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
Moses schickte sie, je tausend von jedem Stamm, zum Kriegszug aus, mit ihnen Pinchas, den Sohn des Priesters Eleasar; der führte die heiligen Geräte und die Lärmtrompeten mit sich.6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
They warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and slew every male.
Auch die Könige der Midianiter hieben sie nieder, außer denen, die sie sonst erschlagen hatten, nämlich Ewi, Rekem, Zur, ChuI und Reba, fünf Könige Midians; auch Bileam, den Sohn des Beor, hieben sie mit dem Schwerte nieder.8 They slew the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian; and they also slew Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.
And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and they took as booty all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods.
All ihre Städte an ihren Wohnsitzen und all ihre Zeltlager steckten sie in Brand.10 All their cities in the places where they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burned with fire,
Dann nahmen sie die Gesamtbeute und alles, was sie an Mensch und Vieh an sich genommen hatten,11 and took all the spoil and all the booty, both of man and of beast.
Then they brought the captives and the booty and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the people of Israel, at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
Es gingen Moses und der Priester Eleasar und sämtliche Gemeindefürsten ihnen vor das Lager hinaus entgegen.13 Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the congregation, went forth to meet them outside the camp.
Moses aber war zornig über die Heerführer, die Führer der Tausendschaften und die Hauptleute der Hundertschaften, die vom Kriegszug heimkehrten.14 And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war.
Er sprach zu ihnen: "Wie? Ihr habt alle Frauen am Leben gelassen?15 Moses said to them, "Have you let all the women live?
Gerade sie sind es ja, die die Israeliten auf Bileams Rat zum Abfall vom Herrn um Peors willen verführt haben, so daß die Heimsuchung über die Gemeinde des Herrn kam.16 Behold, these caused the people of Israel, by the counsel of Balaam, to act treacherously against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the LORD.
Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.
But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Ihr alle, die ihr jemand getötet oder einen Erschlagenen berührt habt, müßt euch am dritten und am siebten Tage mit euren Gefangenen entsündigen.19 Encamp outside the camp seven days; whoever of you has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day.
You shall purify every garment, every article of skin, all work of goats' hair, and every article of wood."
Der Priester Eleasar sagte zu den Kriegsleuten, die zum Kampf gezogen waren: "Dies ist die Gesetzesbestimmung, die der Herr dem Moses befohlen hat:21 And Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone to battle: "This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses:
Gold und Silber, Kupfer, Eisen, Zinn und Blei,22 only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
überhaupt alles, was Feuer verträgt, müßt ihr durch das Feuer hindurchziehen, dann ist es rein; trotzdem muß es noch mit Reinigungswasser entsündigt werden; alles aber, was kein Feuer verträgt, müßt ihr durch das Wasser hindurchziehen.23 everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean. Nevertheless it shall also be purified with the water of impurity; and whatever cannot stand the fire, you shall pass through the water.
You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean; and afterward you shall come into the camp."
Der Herr sprach zu Moses:25 The LORD said to Moses,
"Nimm die Gesamtzahl auf von dem, was erbeutet und gefangen wurde an Menschen und Vieh, du und der Priester Eleasar und die Familienhäupter der Gemeinde!26 "Take the count of the booty that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers' houses of the congregation;
Teile die Beute in zwei Hälften zwischen den Kriegsteilnehmern, die zu Felde gezogen sind, und zwischen der ganzen übrigen Gemeinde!27 and divide the booty into two parts, between the warriors who went out to battle and all the congregation.
Erhebe aber eine Abgabe für den Herrn von den Kriegsleuten, die ins Feld gezogen sind, und zwar je ein Stück von fünf Hunderten der Menschen, Rinder, Esel oder Schafe!28 And levy for the LORD a tribute from the men of war who went out to battle, one out of five hundred, of the persons and of the oxen and of the asses and of the flocks;
Von ihrer Hälfte sollt ihr sie nehmen, und du sollst sie dem Priester Eleasar als Hebe für den Herrn übergeben.29 take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest as an offering to the LORD.
And from the people of Israel's half you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites who have charge of the tabernacle of the LORD."
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
Die Beutestücke, nämlich was von der Beute des Kriegsvolkes noch übrig war, belief sich auf 675 000 Stück Schafe32 Now the booty remaining of the spoil that the men of war took was: six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,
und 72 000 Stück Rinder33 seventy-two thousand cattle,
und 61 000 Esel;34 sixty-one thousand asses,
was die Menschen betrifft, so betrug die Zahl der Mädchen, die noch mit keinem Mann verkehrt hatten, insgesamt 32 000.35 and thirty-two thousand persons in all, women who had not known man by lying with him.
Es belief sich der halbe Anteil, der den ins Feld Gezogenen zufiel, auf 337 500 Stück Schafe36 And the half, the portion of those who had gone out to war, was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
und die Abgabe davon für den Herrn auf 675,37 and the LORD's tribute of sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.
The cattle were thirty-six thousand, of which the LORD's tribute was seventy-two.
The asses were thirty thousand five hundred, of which the LORD's tribute was sixty-one.
The persons were sixteen thousand, of which the LORD's tribute was thirty-two persons.
And Moses gave the tribute, which was the offering for the LORD, to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.
Von jener Hälfte, die den Israeliten zugefallen war und die Moses vom Anteil der Krieger abgesondert hatte,42 From the people of Israel's half, which Moses separated from that of the men who had gone to war--
belief sich die der Gemeinde zufallende Teilzahl auf 337 500 Stück Schafe,43 now the congregation's half was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
36 000 Stück Rinder,44 thirty-six thousand cattle,
30 500 Esel45 and thirty thousand five hundred asses,
und 16 000 Menschen.46 and sixteen thousand persons--
Er übergab sie den Leviten, denen der Dienst an der Wohnstätte des Herrn oblag, wie der Herr dem Moses befohlen hatte.47 from the people of Israel's half Moses took one of every fifty, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites who had charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses,
Sie sprachen zu Moses: "Deine Knechte haben die Kriegsleute abgezählt, die unter unserer Führung standen; kein Mann unter uns fehlt.49 and said to Moses, "Your servants have counted the men of war who are under our command, and there is not a man missing from us.
And we have brought the LORD's offering, what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and beads, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD."
And Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them the gold, all wrought articles.
And all the gold of the offering that they offered to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the people of Israel before the LORD.
