1 Es erging das Wort des Herrn an mich:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,
2 "Du, Menschensohn, rede: So spricht der Gebieter und Herr zum Lande Israel: Das Ende kommt, es kommt das Ende über die vier Ränder der Erde.	2 'Son of man, say, "Lord Yahweh says this to the land of Israel: Finished! The end is coming for the fourcorners of the country.
3 Jetzt kommt über dich das Ende, ich sende meinen Zorn wider dich; ich richte dich nach deinem Wandel und bringe über dich alle deine Greueltaten.	3 This is the end for you; I shall unleash my anger on you, and judge you as your conduct deserves andcal you to account for al your loathsome practices.
4 Mein Auge blickt nicht mitleidsvoll auf dich, und ich kenne kein Erbarmen; ich bringe vielmehr deinen Lebenswandel über dich, und deine Greueltaten sollen mitten in dich dringen! Alsdann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich der Herr bin.	4 I shall show you no pity, I shall not spare you; I shall repay you for your conduct and for the loathsomepractices in which you persist. Then you wil know that I am Yahweh.
5 So spricht der Gebieter und Herr: Unheil über Unheil, siehe, es kommt!	5 "The Lord Yahweh says this: Disaster, a unique disaster, is coming.
6 Das Ende kommt, es kommt das Ende! Das Ende über dich, siehe, es kommt!	6 The end is coming, the end is coming, it is on the move towards you, it is coming now.
7 Es kommt der Untergang über dich, o Landesbewohner. Der Zeitpunkt kommt, der Tag ist nahe; er zögert und säumt nicht.	7 Now it is your turn, you who dwel in this country. Doom is coming, the day is near; no joy now, onlytumult, on the mountains.
8 Bald werde ich nun meinen Groll über dich ergießen und meinen Zorn an dir voll auslassen. Ich werde dich nach deinem Wandel richten und alle deine Greueltaten über dich bringen.	8 Now I shal soon vent my fury on you and sate my anger on you: I shal judge you as your conductdeserves and repay you for al your loathsome practices.
9 Mein Auge blickt nicht mitleidsvoll, und ich kenne kein Erbarmen; ich bringe vielmehr deinen Lebenswandel über dich, und deine Greueltaten sollen mitten in dich dringen! Alsdann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich, der Herr, es bin, der Schläge versetzt.	9 I shall show neither pity nor mercy, but shall repay you for your conduct and the loathsome practices inwhich you persist. Then you wil know that I am Yahweh and that I strike.
10 Wohlan, der Tag! Siehe, der Untergang kommt und bricht herein; die Gewalttat blüht, der Übermut sproßt.	10 "Now is the day, your turn has come, it has come, it appears, the sceptre has blossomed, pride is at itspeak.
11 Die Unterdrückung schießt empor zu einer Rute der Ruchlosigkeit; sie zögert und säumt nicht.	11 Violence has risen to become the scourge of wickedness . . .
12 Der Zeitpunkt kommt, der Tag trifft ein. Der Käufer freue sich nicht, und der Verkäufer soll nicht trauern; denn Zornesglut kommt über all ihren Reichtum.	12 Doom is coming, the day is near. Neither should buyer rejoice, nor sel er regret, for the fury rests oneveryone alike.
13 Denn der Verkäufer kehrt nicht mehr zurück zum Verkauften, auch wenn man noch am Leben ist; denn Zornesglut kommt über all ihren Reichtum. Er kehrt nicht zurück, und keiner wird ob seiner Schuld sein Leben festhalten können.	13 The sel er wil not be able to go back on his bargain; each persists in his sins; they take no defensivemeasures.
14 Stoßt in das Horn und macht alles bereit! Niemand jedoch zieht in den Streit; denn meine Zornesglut kommt über all ihren Reichtum.	14 The trumpet sounds, all is ready, but no one goes into battle, since my fury rests on all alike.
15 Draußen rast das Schwert, drinnen die Pest und der Hunger. Wer sich auf dem Felde befindet, stirbt durch das Schwert, und wer in der Stadt ist, den vernichten Hunger und Pest.	15 "Outside, the sword; inside, plague and famine. Whoever is living in the countryside wil die by thesword; whoever is living in the city will be devoured by famine and plague.
16 Entkommen von ihnen Fliehende, so verweilen sie auf den Bergen wie Tauben der Täler; sie alle klagen, ein jeder ob seiner Schuld.	16 And those who escape wil escape to the mountains and there, like doves of the valleys, I shalslaughter them al , each one for his sin.
17 Alle Hände erschlaffen, und alle Knie triefen von Wasser.	17 Every hand wil grow limp, every knee turn to water.
18 Sie gürten sich Trauerkleider um, und Schrecken bedeckt sie; auf allen Gesichtern ist Scham, und kahl sind ihre Häupter.	18 They wil put on sackcloth, each one trembling. Every face wil be ashamed and every head beshaved.
19 Ihr Silber werfen sie auf die Gassen, und ihr Gold gilt ihnen als Unflat. Ihr Silber und Gold vermag sie nicht zu retten am Zornestag des Herrn. Ihren Hunger können sie damit nicht stillen und ihren Bauch nicht füllen. Denn es ward ihnen ein Anstoß zur Sünde.	19 They wil throw their silver away in the streets and their gold they wil regard as a pollution; neithertheir silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of Yahweh's fury. Never again wil they haveenough to eat, never again wil they fil their bellies, since that was the occasion for their guilt.
20 Seine schmucke Zier verwendeten sie zur Hoffart und verfertigten daraus ihre greuelhaften Bildnisse, ihre Scheusale; deshalb verwandle ich es ihnen in Unflat.	20 They used to pride themselves on the beauty of their jewel ery, out of which they made theirloathsome images, their horrors; so now I have made it pol ute them.
21 Ich gebe es den Fremden als Beute hin und den Ruchlosen der Erde zum Raube, damit sie es entweihen.	21 I shal hand it over as plunder to foreigners, as loot to the most evil people on earth. They wil profaneit.
22 Ich wende mein Antlitz von ihnen ab, und man wird mein Kleinod entweihen; Räuber werden es betreten und entweihen.	22 I shal turn my face away from them, while my treasure-house is profaned and robbers wil force theirway in and profane it.
23 Sie veranstalten ein Gemetzel; denn das Land ist voll Blutschuld und die Stadt voll Gewalttat.	23 "Forge yourself a chain; for the country is full of bloody executions and the city ful of deeds ofviolence,
24 Ich bringe die schlimmsten der Heidenvölker herbei, daß sie ihre Häuser in Besitz nehmen. Ich werde der stolzen Macht ein Ende bereiten, und ihre Heiligtümer sollen geschändet werden.	24 so I shall bring the cruel est of the nations to seize their houses. I shal put an end to the pride of theire'lite, and their sanctuary wil be profaned.
25 Angst naht heran; dann sucht man Heil, es gibt aber keines.	25 Terror is on the way: they will look for peace and there wil be none.
26 Unglück kommt über Unglück, Schreckenskunde über Schreckenskunde trifft ein; dann fordert man Schauung von Propheten; aber Weisung geht dem Priester verloren und Rat den Ältesten.	26 Disaster will fol ow on disaster, rumour on rumour; they will pester the prophet for a vision; the priestwil be at a loss over the law and the elders on how to advise.
27 Es trauert der König, und der Fürst kleidet sich in Entsetzen, den Bürgern des Landes erstarren die Hände. Gemäß ihrem Wandel will ich an ihnen handeln, und nach ihrer eigenen Rechtspflege werde ich sie richten. Alsdann werden sie erkennen, daß ich der Herr bin."	27 The king wil go into mourning, the prince be plunged in grief, the hands of the country people tremble.I shal treat them as their conduct deserves, and judge them as their own verdicts merit. Then they wil know thatI am Yahweh!" '
