1 Jedoch im siebten Monat kam Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, der Enkel Elischamas, aus königlichem Stamm [einer von den Großen des Königs], mit zehn Männern zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Achikams, nach Mizpa. Sie hielten dort ein gemeinschaftliches Mahl.	1 In the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, one of the chief officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. As they ate bread together there at Mizpah,
2 Da erhob sich Ismael, der Sohn des Netanja, samt den zehn Männern, die bei ihm waren, und sie erschlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, den Enkel Schaphans, mit dem Schwerte. So brachte er den Mann um, den der Babelkönig im Lande als Statthalter eingesetzt hatte.	2 Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land.
3 Auch alle Judäer, die bei ihm [bei Gedalja] in Mizpa waren, und die Kaldäer, die sich als militärische Besatzung dort befanden, schlug Ismael tot.	3 Ishmael also slew all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldean soldiers who happened to be there.
4 Es begab sich aber am zweiten Tage nach Gedaljas Ermordung, als noch niemand etwas wußte,	4 On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before any one knew of it,
5 da kamen Leute von Sichem, Silo und Samaria, achtzig Mann, mit geschorenen Bärten, zerrissenen Gewändern und eingeritzter Haut; sie trugen in ihren Händen Opfergaben und Weihrauch, um sie zum Hause des Herrn zu bringen.	5 eighty men arrived from Shechem and Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and their bodies gashed, bringing cereal offerings and incense to present at the temple of the LORD.
6 Da ging Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, von Mizpa aus ihnen entgegen und machte dabei eine weinerliche Miene. Sobald er mit ihnen zusammentraf, lud er sie ein: "Kommt zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Achikams!"	6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah came out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he came. As he met them, he said to them, "Come in to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam."
7 Nachdem sie nun in die Stadtmitte gekommen waren, hieb Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, sie nieder und warf sie in die Zisterne, er und die Leute, die er bei sich hatte.	7 When they came into the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men with him slew them, and cast them into a cistern.
8 Unter ihnen befanden sich jedoch zehn Männer, die zu Ismael sprachen: "Bring uns nicht um; denn wir haben versteckte Vorräte auf dem Felde: Weizen, Gerste, Öl und Honig!" Da ließ er von ihnen ab und tötete sie nicht wie ihre Stammesbrüder.	8 But there were ten men among them who said to Ishmael, "Do not kill us, for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil, and honey hidden in the fields." So he refrained and did not kill them with their companions.
9 Die Zisterne aber, in welche Ismael alle Leichen der Leute, die er erschlagen hatte, hineinwarf, war eine große Zisterne - es war jene, die König Asa gegen Bascha, den König von Israel, angelegt hatte. Diese füllte Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, mit Erschlagenen.	9 Now the cistern into which Ishmael cast all the bodies of the men whom he had slain was the large cistern which King Asa had made for defense against Baasha king of Israel; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.
10 Danach führte Ismael den ganzen Rest der Leute in Mizpa weg samt den Prinzessinnen, die Nebusaradan, der Führer der Leibwache, dem Gedalja, dem Sohn Achikams, anvertraut hatte; Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, führte sie weg und zog ab, um über die Grenze zu den Ammonitern zu gelangen.	10 Then Ishmael took captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah, the king's daughters and all the people who were left at Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and set out to cross over to the Ammonites.
11 Jochanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Truppenführer, die bei ihm waren, vernahmen von all dem Unrecht, das Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, begangen hatte.	11 But when Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him heard of all the evil which Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
12 Sie nahmen alle ihre Leute und zogen zum Kampf wider Ismael, den Sohn Netanjas, aus; sie stießen auf ihn am großen Gewässer bei Gibeon.	12 they took all their men and went to fight against Ishmael the son of Nethaniah. They came upon him at the great pool which is in Gibeon.
13 Als nun sämtliche Leute um Ismael den Jochanan, den Sohn des Kareach, und neben ihm alle Truppenführer erblickten, sprangen sie freudig auf.	13 And when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him, they rejoiced.
14 Alle Leute, die Ismael von Mizpa fortgeführt hatte, schwenkten um und traten auf die Seite Jochanans, des Sohnes des Kareach.	14 So all the people whom Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.
15 Jedoch gelang es Ismael, dem Sohn des Netanja, mit acht Mann dem Jochanan zu entkommen und zu den Ammonitern zu fliehen.	15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
16 Da übernahmen Jochanan, der Sohn des Kareach, und alle bei ihm befindlichen Truppenführer den ganzen Rest der Leute, den Ismael, der Sohn des Netanja, nach der Ermordung Gedaljas von Mizpa fortgeführt hatte: Männer, Frauen, Kinder und Palastbeamte, die er von Gibeon zurückbrachte.	16 Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him took all the rest of the people whom Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had carried away captive from Mizpah after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam--soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Johanan brought back from Gibeon.
17 Sie zogen ab und machten halt in der Herberge des Kimham bei Bethlehem in der Absicht, nach Ägypten weiterzuziehen.	17 And they went and stayed at Geruth Chimham near Bethlehem, intending to go to Egypt
18 Dadurch wollten sie den Kaldäern entkommen. Sie fürchteten sich nämlich vor ihnen, weil Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, den Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, der vom König von Babel im Lande als Statthalter eingesetzt war, erschlagen hatte.	18 because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
