Deuteronomy 14

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 'You are children of Yahweh your God. You must not gash yourselves or shave your foreheads for thedead.	1 Filii estote Domini Dei ve stri; non vos incidetis nec fa cietis calvitium inter oculos vestros super mortuo,
2 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be his ownpeople from al the peoples on the earth.	2 quoniam populus sanctus es Domino Deo tuo, et te elegit, ut sis ei in populum peculiarem de cunctis gentibus, quae sunt super terram.
3 'You must not eat anything disgusting.	3 Ne comedatis quidquid abominabile est.
4 These are the animals you may eat: ox, sheep, goat,	4 Hoc est animal, quod comedere potestis: bovem et ovem et capram,
5 deer, gazel e, roebuck, ibex, antelope, oryx, mountain sheep.	5 cervum et capream, bubalum, tragelaphum, pygargum, orygem, rupicapram.
6 You may eat any animal that has a divided and cloven hoof and that is a ruminant.	6 Omne animal inter pecora, quod findit ungulam plene in duas partes et ruminat, comedetis;
7 Of those, however, that are ruminants and of those that have a divided and cloven hoof you may noteat the fol owing: the camel, the hare and the coney, which are ruminants but have no cloven hoof; you mustclass them as unclean.	7 de his autem, quae ruminant et ungulam non findunt, haec comedere non debetis: camelum, leporem, hyracem, quia ruminant et non dividunt ungulam, immunda erunt vobis.
8 So also the pig, which though it has a cloven hoof is not a ruminant; you must class it as unclean. Youmust neither eat the meat of such animals nor touch their dead bodies.	8 Sus quoque, quoniam dividit ungulam et non ruminat, immunda erit vobis: carnibus eorum non vescemini et cadavera non tangetis.
9 'Of whatever lives in water you may eat the fol owing: you may eat anything that has fins and scales.	9 Haec comedetis ex omnibus, quae morantur in aquis: quae habent pinnulas et squamas comedite;
10 But you must not eat anything without fins and scales: you must class it as unclean.	10 quae absque pinnulis et squamis sunt, ne comedatis, quia immunda sunt vobis.
11 'You may eat al clean birds,	11 Omnes aves mundas comedite;
12 but the fol owing birds you must not eat: the tawny vulture, the griffon, the osprey,	12 has autem ne comedatis: aquilam scilicet et grypem et alietum,
13 the kite and the several kinds of buzzard,	13 ixon et vulturem ac milvum iuxta genus suum
14 al kinds of raven,	14 et omne corvini generis,
15 the ostrich, the screech owl, the seagul , the several kinds of hawk,	15 struthionem ac noctuam et larum atque accipitrem iuxta genus suum,
16 owl, barn owl, ibis,	16 bubonem ac cycnum et ibin
17 pelican, white vulture, cormorant,	17 ac mergulum, porphyrionem et nycticoracem,
18 stork, the several kinds of heron, hoopoe and bat.	18 erodium et charadrium, singula in genere suo, upupam quoque et vespertilionem.
19 You are to class al winged insects as unclean and must not eat them.	19 Et omne, quod reptat et pinnulas habet, immundum erit vobis, nec comedetur.
20 You may eat any clean fowl.	20 Omne volatile, quod mundum est, comedite.
21 'You must not eat any animal that has died a natural death. You may give it to a resident foreigner toeat, or sel it to a foreigner. For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God. 'You must not boil a kid in itsmother's milk.	21 Quidquid morticinum est, ne vescamini ex eo; advenae, qui intra portas tuas est, da, ut comedat, aut vende peregrino: quia tu populus sanctus es Domino Deo tuo. Non coques haedum in lacte matris suae.
22 'Every year, you must take a tithe of what your fields produce from what you have sown	22 Decimam partem separabis de cunctis frugibus seminis tui, quae nascuntur in terra per annos singulos;
23 and, in the presence of Yahweh your God, in the place where he chooses to give his name a home,you must eat the tithe of your wheat, of your new wine and of your oil, and the first-born of your herd and flock;and by so doing, you wil learn always to fear Yahweh your God.	23 et comedes in conspectu Domini Dei tui in loco, quem elegerit, ut in eo nomen illius habitet, decimam frumenti tui et vini et olei et primogenita de armentis et ovibus tuis, ut discas timere Dominum Deum tuum omni tempore.
24 'If the road is too long for you, if you cannot bring your tithe because the place in which Yahwehchooses to make a home for his name is too far away, when Yahweh your God has blessed you,	24 Cum autem longior fuerit tibi via et locus, quem elegerit Dominus Deus tuus, ut ponat nomen suum ibi tibique benedixerit, nec potueris ad eum haec cuncta portare,
25 you must convert it into money and, with the money clasped in your hand, you must go to the placechosen by Yahweh your God;	25 vendes omnia et in pretium rediges; portabisque manu tua et proficisceris ad locum, quem elegerit Dominus Deus tuus,
26 there you may spend the money on whatever you like, oxen, sheep, wine, fermented liquor, anythingyou please. There you must eat in the presence of Yahweh your God and rejoice, you and your household.	26 et emes ex eadem pecunia, quidquid tibi placuerit, sive ex armentis sive ex ovibus, vinum quoque et siceram et omne, quod desiderat anima tua; et comedes ibi coram Domino Deo tuo et epulaberis tu et domus tua
27 Do not neglect the Levite living in your community, since he has no share or heritage of his ownamong you.	27 et Levites, qui intra portas tuas est: cave, ne derelinquas eum, quia non habet partem nec possessionem tecum.
28 'At the end of every three years, you must take al the tithes of your harvests for that year and col ectthem in your community.	28 Anno tertio separabis aliam decimam ex omnibus, quae nascuntur tibi eo tempore, et repones intra portas tuas;
29 Then the Levite -- since he has no share or heritage of his own among you -- the foreigner, theorphan and the widow living in your community, wil come and eat all they want. And so Yahweh your God wilbless you in al the labours that you undertake.'	29 venietque Levites, qui non habet partem nec possessionem tecum, et peregrinus ac pupillus ac vidua, qui intra portas tuas sunt, et comedent et saturabuntur, ut benedicat tibi Dominus Deus tuus in cunctis operibus manuum tuarum, quae feceris.
