Isaiah 33

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Woe to you, destroying though not yourself destroyed, betraying though not yourself betrayed; whenyou have finished destroying, you wil be destroyed, when you have stopped betraying, you wil be betrayed.	1 Guai a te, devastatore che non sei stato devastato, predatore che non sei stato depredato; sarai devastato quando avrai finito di devastare, ti deprederanno quando avrai terminato di depredare.
2 Yahweh, show us your mercy, we hope in you. Be our arm every morning and our salvation in time ofdistress.	2 Jahvè, abbi pietà di noi, noi speriamo in te; sii il nostro braccio ogni mattino, nostra salvezza nel tempo dell’angustia.
3 At the sound of tumult the peoples flee, when you stand up the nations scatter.	3 Al rumore della tua minaccia fuggono i popoli, quando ti levi si disperdono le nazioni.
4 Your spoil is gathered in as a grasshopper gathers in, like a swarm of locusts people descend on it.	4 Si ammucchia la preda come si ammucchiano le cavallette, si precipitano sopra come vi si precipitano le locuste.
5 Yahweh is exalted, for he is enthroned above, he has fil ed Zion with fair judgement and saving justice.	5 Eccelso è Jahvè poiché troneggia nell’alto; egli riempie Sion di diritto e di giustizia.
6 You can count on this al your days: wisdom and knowledge are the riches that save, the fear ofYahweh is his treasure.	6 C'è sicurezza nelle tue leggi; ricchezze salutari sono sapienza e scienza; il timore di Jahvè è il suo tesoro.
7 Look, Ariel is lamenting in the streets, the ambassadors of peace are weeping bitterly.	7 Ecco, gli araldi gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente.
8 The highways are deserted, no travel ers any more on the roads. Agreements are broken, witnessesheld in contempt, there is respect for no one.	8 Sono deserte le strade, non c’è chi passi per la strada. Egli ha violato il patto, ha respinto i testimoni, non si è curato di nessuno.
9 The land pines away in mourning, the Lebanon is withering with shame, Sharon has become like thewasteland, Bashan and Carmel are shuddering.	9 Il paese è in lutto e langue, il Libano si scolora e intristisce,Sharon rassomiglia a una steppa, brulli sono Bashan e il Carmelo.
10 'Now I shal stand up,' says Yahweh, 'now I shal rise, now draw myself up.	10 «Ora mi leverò» dice Jahvè, «ora mi innalzerò, ora apparirò eccelso.
11 You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw: like fire, my breath wil devour you.	11 Avete concepito fieno, partorirete paglia; il mio soffio vi divorerà come fuoco.
12 The peoples will be burnt up as though by quicklime, like cut thorns they wil be burnt on the fire.	12 I popoli saranno fornaci di calce, spini tagliati da bruciare nel fuoco.
13 You who are far away, listen to what I have done, and you who are near, realise my strength.'	13 Sentite, lontani, quanto ho fatto, sappiate, vicini, quale sia la mia forza».
14 The sinners in Zion are panic-stricken and fear seizes on the godless, 'Which of us can survive thedevouring fire, which of us survive everlasting burning?'	14 Hanno paura in Sion i peccatori, lo spavento si è impadronito degli empi. «Chi di noi può resistere presso un fuoco vorace? Chi di noi può resistere presso un calore continuo?»
15 The one who acts uprightly and speaks honestly, who scorns to get rich by extortion, who rejectsbribes out of hand, who refuses to listen to plans involving bloodshed and shuts his eyes rather thancountenance crime:	15 Colui che cammina nella giustizia e parla con lealtà, chi rigetta un guadagno frutto di angherie, scuote le mani per non prendere regali, sì tura le orecchie per non udire fatti di sangue, chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male;
16 such a man wil live on the heights, the craggy rocks wil be his refuge, he wil be fed, he wil not wantfor water.	16 costui abiterà in alto, fortezze sulle rocce saranno il suo rifugio, si fornirà di pane, avrà l’acqua assicurata.
17 Your eyes will gaze on the king in his beauty, they wil look on a country stretching far and wide.	17 I tuoi occhi mireranno un re nel suo splendore, contempleranno una terra larga e distesa.
18 Your heart wil meditate on past terrors, 'Where is the man who did the counting? Where is the manwho did the weighing? Where is the man who counted off the towers?'	18 Il tuo cuore si domanderà con terrore: «Dov’è lo scriba? Dov’è colui che pesa il denaro? Dov’è colui che controlla le torri?»
19 No more wil you see that insolent people, that people of unintel igible speech, of barbarous andmeaningless tongue.	19 Non vedrai più quel.popolo straniero, popolo dal linguaggio oscuro, incomprensibile, dalla lingua barbara, che non si capisce.
20 Gaze at Zion, city of our feasts; your eyes wil see Jerusalem as a home that is secure, a tent not tobe moved, none of its tent-pegs ever to be pul ed out, none of its guy-ropes ever to be broken.	20 Guarda Sion, la città delle nostre feste! I tuoi occhi vedono Gerusalemme, dimora tranquilla, tenda inamovibile, i suoi paletti non saranno divelti, nessuna delle sue cordicelle sarà strappata.
21 There it is that Yahweh shows us his power, like a place of rivers and very wide canals on which willrow no galley, over which wil pass no majestic ship.	21 Ivi è per noi Jahvè nella sua maestà, che sostituisce i fiumi e i larghi canali; non ci passerà mai nave a remi né l’attraverserà un naviglio più grosso.
22 (For Yahweh is our judge, Yahweh our lawgiver, Yahweh is our king and our Saviour.)	22 Poiché Jahvè è nostro giudice, Jahvè è nostro legislatore, Jahvè è nostro re; egli ci salverà.
23 Your tackle has given way, it cannot support the mast, it cannot hoist the pennon. And so there ismuch booty to be shared out; the lame fal to plundering,	23 Sono rallentate le sue corde, non tengono più l’albero diritto, non spiegano più le vele. Allora i ciechi divideranno una preda enorme, gli zoppi faranno un ricco bottino.
24 and no one living there wil say, 'I am sickly'; the people living there wil find their guilt forgiven.	24 E non dirà più il cittadino: «Io sono infermo»; il popolo che dimora in Sion è stato assolto dalle sue colpe.
